Tell me, TL, what position do the little fellows play in when they go to soccer, or do they do what we did and run around after the ball in a howling mob ?

For crying out loud, it's called Football!!!

Limeylongears wrote:

All the positions, but, surprisingly, not at once (at least, not after the first game).

The league we play with (free sign up, all-volunteer, local to a community that allows others - like us - from outside it to join) is an "equal opportunity" kind of thing - everyone gets equal play-time, everyone gets to try out every position, and everyone gets to try a bit of everything.

I love my boy, and am super-proud of how much better he's gotten from the first game/practice, but he's not really focused, which means he's not that great a player, at present. He's inherited my... distraction-tendencies, in that regard. Also, he's four (technically making him too young for the U7 league which is supposed to be from 5-7 years; he's one of three such children on this exact team).

There are only five on the field at one time, and it is a very small field - given that we only have about a third of a normal field to act as our entire field... yeah, it's tiny.

Our practice field is even worse - we share the space in and around our game field with three other teams.

Anyway, he's "best" so far at either defense (where he stands around, gets distracted and wanders off... though twice, now, making a surprisingly critical "save" by punting the ball away from our goal when our even-younger-at-that-moment goalie was literally just watching it roll toward him); or as a "forward" (where he can kick the ball as much as he wants)... though he does much better at that on a larger field, as he doesn't have a sense of "space limits" quite yet (because, you know, we don't have much in the way of a field, and the size of his place to run is constantly changing *shakes fist*).

Still, the kids have been pretty great. From just running after the ball and literally kicking it anywhere in any way they could, working against each other or not (how we started), we now have kids that... stay where they're told (until they get distracted), usually don't try to take the ball from their team (until they get distracted), know how to "sweep" (i.e. kick with the inside of their foot instead of the toe - until they get distracted), know to react quickly when the ball is near them (okay, this one's iffy, as they're almost always distracted if the ball's not usually near them), how to stop a ball instead of just kicking it immediately all the time (they actually tend to use surprisingly good judgement on when to do this), how to steal the ball and get in front of the ball to drop it down without using their hands (this... took a little bit), how to throw it in without jumping (they're pros!), and how to follow orders (until they get distracted).

I'm really proud of 'em.

(We do, actually, have a couple of kids who have "played" before... one of which is actually, no joke, really and genuinely good at the game... just like every other team in our U7 division. He's been invaluable to help train the others. :D)

I managed to squeeze myself into a few minutes with a general advisor today to get my double major petition signed. Then I took it to the Registrar's Office, and they signed off and entered it into my records on the spot. I am now officially a Geography major and an Urban Planning major.

Panic attacks suck. Bipolar sucks. Panic attacks induced by bipolar leading to related location aversion really sucks.

My brain is like a Bethesda game; amazing when it does what it's supposed to, but the creators released it with too many bugs.

Wow! this looks awesome. Don't let the fact that the two trailers combined are similar, the second part of it has subtly added in more scenery

My favorite line has Denzel Washington asking Chris Pratt "What's the plan?" "I always wanted to blow something up"

Also "So, you seek revenge?" "I seek righteousness. But i'll take revenge"

I may have a deep rooted weakness for westerns...

Aha - the weather's going a-viking ;)

Or whatever that is in Old Norse.

Don't ask me - Old Norse (for lack of a better name) is bloody hard. Easier than 13th century Swedish, though.

To keep out the unseasonable chill today, coworkers have decided that the thing to do is to:

1) Take marshmallow
2) Impale on scissors blade
3) Attack with cigarette lighter until burnt
4) Eat
5) Repeat until nauseous and the whole place reeks of burnt sugar.

I am descended from Olympic skiers and I have always wanted to ski in the middle of summer... Maybe I can convince you to crank it to blizzard in July just to cross that off my bucket list.

It was a ton of fun working with Pea Bear last night.

She had her own radio and worked with almost no supervision. She even helped the new trainee with finding where things go.

Aargh!
Ever pick up a heavy box... Like this one full of coin... And have it slip as you do so and fall? Oh and did I mention it caught on my nails as it slipped and shattered half of them. So now I have to walk around like a freak with some nice long nails and some shattered messes. Oh and I don't get out of work till 11pm tonight...

Uuuuuuuggggghhhhhh... fasting while at home suuuuuuuuckssssss.

There's all this... y'know... food everywhere. And it looks so goooooooood...

Le'sigh.

It's frustrating as well 'cause I only have an hour before I leave. That is exactly enough time to not accomplish anything except kitchen stuff, but which I am avoiding. Oh well. Back to reading Boozle. (Which lacks any hint of Booze, pleasantly enough for us teatotelers).

Indeed - hope things get sorted soon, TGTG.

They did.

Here's what happened:

It's like this - my whole "I can take over the world at this job, I'm amazing" attitude - a wee bit of what they call hypomania.

The job? Super ridiculously physical. My feet have never hurt so much IN MY LIFE. Also, four 10-hour days. So by day 4, when mania runs out, and I'm in pain, and grumpy, and the job is absolutely mindless, even though everyone loves me and thinks I'm amazing at it (because a half-retarded monkey could do the job) I'm miserable. And I have like four hours left in my last shift, and the thought of even coming back from my last break makes me want to cry. And I text my wife for support and she doesn't answer, because her job has her working ridiculous overtime. And then the migraine starts to come...

So I'm hypersensitive to light and sound, and everyone is dropping pallets around me and taping stuff up with those loud shipping tape guns and my feet feel like they want to divorce me, and all I want to do is run away and hide, but it's temp-to-perm, so if I miss a single day during the temp time or leave early I'm fired, and the bathroom has one stall and 400 employees in the building, and like I said, my feet have never hurt so much IN MY LIFE, and I start freaking out...but I hold it down...for four more hours...I manage, somehow to make it through, even though at least four people stopped to ask if I was okay...

...so by the time I got home I'm like shaking and unable to see straight and my wife is surprisingly cool about it and gets me a sub with all my favorite stuff in it, even sriracha sauce mixed with chipoltle, and she understands when I'm like "I will not walk back into that building even if you threaten to divorce me. I don't care if I have to move in with my mother in my 30s, I'm not going through that."

So today is job hunting, needless to say.

I do love cheese. So. Much. I never met a cheese I didn't like at least a little. Even that weird soft one that tasted kind of like butter my mom found from France was decent with crackers.
