You guys seriously don't understand great video games. The truth (objective) about FF is that VIII stands head and shoulders above the others. See, it contains a MYSTERY that people actually still discuss. It has a delicious setting, with just the right amount of surreal, it has great Laguna episodes, monsters that don't look like random pixels (FF7) or cupcakes with too much decoration (FF9), and a minigame that doesn't bore me to tears (FF10). The weak sides are the draw system. Yes, it is massively bad... but luckily you can avoid most of it and refine cards instead. It also contains the most misunderstood villain ever, but it's at least not like the final boss of FF9 who comes from nowhere.

Of the two, Cantrell's definitely the more technically skilled, musically speaking, but Staley had a wider range and a more distinctive voice.
Cantrell was in choir/chorus in high school. I'm pretty sure he had vocal training after that as well because I heard a story about a new song he presented for Staley to sing:
LS: "This sounds pretty f+%&ing personal."JC: "Yeah, it is."
LS: "Why am I f$#%ing singing it instead of you?"
JC: "You sing better than I do."
LS: "Why don't you take some f*$%ing voice lessons and sing the f$~&ing song yourself?"
Or something on that order.

Yeah, I hear y revoke any and all claims to being chaotic by you.
Anyhow, there is a dead squirrel in my road (at the far end of my community from me). The rules are: I cannot touch it, it cannot stay there, and there is no legal agency capable of coming out to where we are. Clearly this can only end well.
(Except for the squirrel. I mean, it kind of looks happy, but, uh, I wouldn't know how to check that kind of thing, and anyhow, it's already ended for it.)

I acknowledged that when I ranted about crappy drivers. I fully shifted to neutral good...probably leaning to true neutral, but Dangit I'm trying hard to be less grumpy, so I'm holding onto that letter G by my fingernails. I do good on purpose without looking for reward, even though I b**** and moan about it, and the idiots that dug themselves into the positions I'm helping them out of, the entire time.

It's Florida, it'll be in someone's stew pot before the day is done.
Edit: wait, North Florida or South Florida?
North Florida: stew
South Florida: put some sunglasses on it, a nice airy shirt and take that b!$!~ clubbing! Or maybe to a Heat game (pretty much the same thing anyway).
Other options include :give it a beard and enter it into that contest to look like that one guy that was famous for living in the Keys.
Stitch on a mermaids tail and bam, the world's first Squirrelmaid.
Really, the options are unlimited. In south Florida.

Central.
Anyway, apparently, if I can do so without touching it, I have the r<-ight/-esponsibility> to double bag it and put it in the trash? Is... is that right? Took me a while to find that out, too. Apparently, they really did mean "touch" as in "skin contact"... but okay. I'll have to look when I pick my son up...

FF:
Of the numbered ones
- VI-aka-III for me is #1
< - Although I've not played it, I'm reasonably certain that XII would be around here.>
< - Similarly, though I've not played enough of it, I think that IX would be around here.>
- After that, IV, V, and VII are both around the same: I like 5's mechanics the best, but 4 and 7 both have better character development and characters (and the coming and going of the characters feels more organic to the story); technically 7 is the most comprehensible of the lot, while the graphics and music of 4 & 5 have aged better. The final bad guy for four just kind of... came from nowhere. Similarly
- Then comes VIII and X (... and... sigh... X-2), and, intriguingly, I (and, from what I've played, III). Frankly, Tidus was a whiny, arrogant kid who was... well... it was convoluted that one movie did it better*; though there were touching scenes in the end. Squall was an emo, arrogant kid, who was... well... it was convoluted that one movie did it better**; though there were touching scenes in the end. In 8, Quistis is a better person over-all, and a lot more interesting. Zell is obnoxious, Yuffie Selfie Selphie was vapid, Irvine was a coward, and Seifer was... wow; 'dat guy. (Also, the ending plan was dumb.) In 10, Yuna is a fascinating and great character, Waka is obnoxious (though more likable than Zell), Rikku was... uh... jailbait?... and Kimahri and Auron were cool (though K's skillset needed some love). In x-2, Yuna is far more vapid, Rikku is the same, and Paine is... uh... sigh. In 1, the story is basic (at best) but still extremely convoluted and goofy, and the dialogue rather... uh... uninspiring; the villains were bland, and the whole thing was just 'meh'... but it was far better than anything else that came out during its time that I'm aware of, and I'm forever grateful for the series it spawned. <I'm guessing this where XIII would fit, from what I've heard.>
- Bottom of the lot is II. Sure, the story is leagues better than VIII, but, uh, have you actually played that game? The basics of some of the mechanics were polished off, tweaked to be better, and used again for Saga Frontier and again Vagrant Story, but, uh... this was definitely the worst version of those mechanics, it had other more frustrating ones, and it was, over-all, a really irritating experience to play.
{ - XI is impossible to rate, exactly - not only have I not played it, but I'm not a fan of MMOs. I hear XIV was... poorly received, to say the least.}
For the non-numbered ones I've played:
- Final Fantasy Tactics was, and remains, one of my all-time favorite games. FFT Advance had great gameplay... but it wasn't the gameplay I wanted, and I really didn't care for the story, characters, or art that much. I've not played FFTA2.
- Vagrant Story ranks immediately below FFT, partially because I'm a nerd about that whole... world... that was set up, and partially because I liked the game a lot. Can't believe I left this out the first time. Oops.
- Apparently Secret of Mana was a spin-off series? I... don't associate them at all, but there you go. I loved it. (I also loved Secret of Evermore.) I've not played any of the others of that series.
- Crystal Chronicles was confusing, emotionally. I don't know how I feel about it, so I put it here. I never owned or completed it, so... yeah.
- Mystic Quest is the bottom of the list... not because it's horrendous, but because... it's just not that interesting. It's... exceptionally mediocre.
... and that's all the FF I've got.
* The Sixth Sense.
** Dark City.
EDIT: I was wrong. I hadn't mentioned Vagrant Story!

Well, looks like someone did while I was gone, trying to figure out the right way of handling it. And once again, I narrowly avoided doing anything useful for anyone! Woo~!

Yep. The very first Mana game - Seiken Densetsu in Japan; Final Fantasy Adventure in North America on the Gameboy Original, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest in Europe on the GB (while FFMQ in the US was a flop of a SNES game); and Sword of Mana when re-released on the GBA - was created as a spin-off/sister series after the three NES FFs did well.

Anyway, Delita is my favorite character in probably ANY Final Fantasy, Kefka being an extremely close second.
Man. I like villains.
Um...I also liked Locke, when it comes to heroes, and Palom...and Edge (who was basically personality-wise just a grown up Palom).
...
...
...
...did Red XIII actually have a personality beyond "I'm vaguely native american sort of, but beyond the feathers and the background music in Cosmo Canyon, not really"? I love the doofiness they've given him in Machinabridged.
Frankly, I am LOVING that show, and pissed the season ended.

I've heard about equal arguments for whether SoM or SD3 was better. Some groups really like the latter and consider it a treasure lost to Japan and/or the SNES being in its twilight years; others say there's a reason only SoM made it to the states.
Regardless of the quality of the game itself, Legend of Mana's soundtrack is AWESOME. Love me some The Darkness Nova and many others.

Given the number of games in the series, "Final Fantasy" has to be one of the most ironic titles in the history of the genre, especially given the history of the name.
1987: "We've only got one more shot at releasing a game before we go bankrupt."
2015: "No, really, we promise, this is the last spinoff of the sequel from two games ago. Next, we're going to start making a spinoff of the next sequel to the spinoff from four games ago. In HD."

Now that I have washed the krogan brains from my chitinous alien head-eater, let me tell you guys about Final fantasy.
I have played I, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XIII and XIII-2.
I: I have no doubt that when it came out, it was magnificent and a revelation. It has not aged well.
VI: The graphics and music are great. The characters, sadly, and contrary to what most fans say, are not. Terra and Celes are the ones with the best character development - but that's not saying all that much. Fact is, there are about twice as many characters as there should have been. A good number of them could have been removed without much consequence. For example, Shadow. I never saw much point to him. He has a dog. Not to mention, the game loses steam going to the world of ruin and ends up in a massive slog.
VII: The first one I played. It was awesome - and still is, if you can get past the haphazard pixel graphics.
VIII: T3h awesome. I was pleasantly surprised by it after VII. For some reason, it managed to convey precisely the right feels for me. Also, as a mature gamer, I can say I am very certain that Q=U (or maybe that should be Q=A). See also above.
IX: A throwback. After the last two, my expectations were MASSIVE. And such a disappointment. Everything is overdecorated and looks fiddly. The characters are uniformly bland, except Vivi. The card game feels like a bad version of VIII's. The villain is hermetically excluded from everything else in the game.
X: So so so sad. I loved this game. Finally a FF game that isn't afraid to focus on the emotions. Yuna, Auron and Lulu, even Wakka, were great characters. Blitzball was horrid. Could have done more with underwater stuff.
XIII: I have never been through such a corridor slog. It makes Secret of the Silver Blades look sandboxy. Lightning is awesome, and the basic conflict is decent, but execution is all sorts of head-shake.
XIII-2: They listened to the criticism XIII got. This game is a massive sandbox, switching between harsh and fun all the time. Damn, this was a good one.

Hmm, favorite FF characters....
IV: Cecil was a decent protagonist and I liked his redemption arc story. Kain was fun, but his constantly getting brainwashed got annoying really fast. Tellah was quotable and really useful in combat, but his "get weaker when he levels up because he's old" mechanic got REALLY frustrating. Rydia was annoying as a child but awesome when she rejoined the party as an adult. Cid was fun. Edge was great. Golbez was a great looming villain throughout most of the game and I actually kinda liked Zeromus despite his came-out-of-nowhere-ness.
V: Faris, oh dear Bahamut, Faris. My absolute favorite character in this game and possibly one of my top-10 characters. Galuf was enjoyable and Lenna was surprisingly less annoying than I'd expected. Also, this game brought us Gilgamesh!
VI: There's almost nobody on this cast that I didn't like to some degree... probably Cyan would be the one exception, I got very tired of him very quickly. Everyone else was useful and fun to play and had at the least a basically interesting story to them; I could not be more in disagreement with Sissyl about this if I tried. And of course Kefka. Goddesses above, Kefka was brilliant.
VII: Vincent is by far my favorite cast member, despite being an optional ally. Barrett was interesting enough. Everyone else was... meh.
VIII: Even worse than VII. There was nobody on this cast that I really liked.
IX: This is basically VI round 2 for me. I loved absolutely all the characters except Quina, I loved the aesthetics, I loved the world. My main complaints were too much Quina and not enough Beatrix, and that Necron didn't get any foreshadowing and just shows up at the end, and that Kuja could have used some more oomph to his character. Fix those relatively minor issues and I'd take ten more games like this one.
X: Middle of the road for me, a lot like VII. Some characters (Lulu, Auron) were amazing. Some (Rikku, Tidus) were annoying as heck. Seymour should have been the main villain, I actually thought he was pretty decent. Actual villain was a major letdown.
XII: Third verse, same as the first. Balthier, Basch, Ashe were awesome. Vaan and Penelo were irritating and all but useless and for some reason they decided to put the player's viewpoint through them rather than Ashe or Basch. Fran was underutilized, she could've been a lot better character but they just didn't follow through. I liked that Cid was evil for once in this game. Didn't like the villians at first but they grew on me eventually, especially Venat.
