everyone else takes the sidewalks, but thats no fun, so we turn a 20 minute walk into a 10 minute adventure, thru the woods, over the tracks, past the bunny log, up the hill.... beats walking the same boring path evryday:-)

That makes sense, they likely don't want to end up in pies.

Time to continue my series of recaps.

I am sorry if it is a bit hastily written, so much has happened and I am trying to be as efficient with my time as I can.

Kingmaker Spoilers:
So, a few weeks after the defeat of Irovetti, the Varnhold Vanishing occured. Kiriv, Ciaran and Oruda found themselves going in to investigate, while Sage stayed at the capital to handle some other things. Said things included sending scouts south to check up on Fort Drelev (they ended up dead), inviting the leaders of the Pitaxian guilds for a little talk (which led to Pitax being subservient to the Greenbelt County economically while also starting to fix the damage Irovetti's thieves guild did) and then went to give Candlemere Tower a more thorough look (which led to an Outer God of my own making giving him some cryptic information at the cost of some sanity) before he decides to go help the others.

While Sage was busy getting his mind scrambled with, the three other heroes found traces of daemon influence in the area. They also cleared out Varnhold of Spriggans, and approached the Centaurs without violence despite their lack of a specialized diplomat. With the information they had acquired, they entered Vordakai's Tomb where they reunited with Sage after both they and the wizard got some sidequests done. Much to their dismay, the dungeon had not just undead monsters, but a coven of daemons as well. They also found Evindra the Nereid as a captive, left forgotten by Vordakai after she had outlived her usefulness. After clearing through the dungeon, they fight Vordakai himself. The fight was a close one, but after defeating the dreaded lich, they find out that they had beaten a Simulacrum and not the real thing.

Worse still, they soon get a report that some people dear to them (such as Sage's two apprentices) have been kidnapped, and are being held at Fort Drelev, of all places. Enraged, they gather their armies and charge southward, finding the land filled with undead monsters and the Tiger Lord Barbarians fighting them. Armag was betrayed by Drelev after Irovetti's defeat, as the Baron had found a new ally in Vordakai. The king's fall changed everything. Nyrissa has been forced to wait longer before she can throw her trump card, and Briar itself was found by Vordakai, who is using it as a conduit for creating a portal to Abaddon. Meanwhile, Sage's tampering with Candlemere has gotten some other entities interested in the Stolen Lands as well...

After storming the Fort, the heroes corner Vordakai and a now-undead Drelev, only for the lich to teleport himself and the knight away to his new lair. The heroes free the prisoners they find in the dungeons, and then go out to see how the townsfolk are doing. Having been forced to deal with constant misery, a part of the townsfolk had converted to the worship of Zon-Kuthon, led by a fallen astral deva named Lindelle (who had tried to defeat Vordakai and failed) and an interlocutor kyton named Imnarias (who had gained an interest in Lindelle after her defeat). As they went about explaining how they both had attempted to "save" the people of the Fort, Sage reprimanded them harshly and told them to abandon the vile Midnight Lord, rolling Diplomacy. Funny enough, the die accidentally fell on the floor and showed a 1, but we generally force a reroll if the die fails to stay on the table. He then rolled a 19, which caused the already somewhat quirky kyton to become confused, and snapped the angel and her followers out of their pain-induced fall from grace.

There is still a lot to be done for the heroes.

- Imnarias is slowly turning away from Evil, but fails to comprehend Good at the moment.

- Lindelle is still a fallen angel, and is in need of an Atonement spell before she can turn back to normal.

- Vordakai needs to be stopped, as he is nearly finished opening the portal through which his daemon minions can enter.

After looking at that recap, I realized just how complex this campaign has turned. I LOVE IT!!

All the Things:
Firstly, there are the character related side-quests. Sage's old friend from Nex had come to visit around the later part of Rivers Run Red, and has been a recurring rival since this elven wizard has turned out to be on the path to corruption.

Speaking of Sage, there are his two cute apprentices, Tatiana the Changeling (daughter of the Knurly Witch) and Euphemia the Medusa (daughter of Phomandala), whom I might have mentioned off-hand somewhere.

Then there is Ciaran, who's backstory and link to the fey of Sevenarches both connect him to Nyrissa, a fact that is becoming more and more apparent as the campaign goes on.

Also, the way the Greenbelt area (currently a County) has been worked. They even set down laws making kobolds, centaurs and other beings citizens with rights equal to those of the resident humans, and adopted the River Freedoms alongside some interesting laws of their own into the mix. Thus far they have run things very darn well, both when it comes to running the place and defending it. Heck, the training of their military upgraded their Kobold Skirmishers into Kobold Commandos, just to name an example.

Then there's the Lovecraftian influence (I do not hate Lovecraft, I just prefer it in small doses) that seeps from Candlemere thanks to Sage's machinations, though he did not expect things going the way they did. And of course, I love how much Vordakai has had the chance to establish himself as a Big Bad thanks to Irovetti's removal from his throne. He just seems to fit the role far better. Hell, I couldn't have added the Lindelle and Imnarias side-story in if I had run the last three books as written instead of going the way it did now.

Thanks to the backstories of the characters, the amount of enemies has expanded.

- Nyrissa remains as the final boss of the campaign, though she is a nemesis of sorts for Ciaran's mentor, the nymph lady Liadain.

- Abraxas the demon lord pursues Sage and those associated with him (Malvien and a lady named Layla) for abandoning his cult back in the day.

- Vordakai has become the penultimate boss, since Irovetti's defeat gave the lich a chance to snatch Briar away, and give him time to recover his powers as the PCs worked politics.

- Nyarlathotep might be interested in the player characters due to Sage's brief contact with the Outer God Pergrathoth (again, a creation of my own), bringing some mayhem with him.

The only problem with Icy's Kingmaker is getting it finished.

Every time he tries to run it, one player is missing, and the group doesn't wanna move on with anyone missing.

New glasses = awesome. Not only are they the right prescription so no more constant squinting and eyestrain (old ones were way too powerful...suspect previous optometrist lacked a certain amount of competence) but I was finally talked into getting transitions lenses and I'm only sorry I didn't do this sooner. I can actually walk outside or into a too brightly lit store without getting a headache and can mostly not complain when my family turns on what they consider sufficient lights inside (apparently I need about half as much light as they do, sometimes less). And it even helped mitigate some of my night driving problem with the oncoming headlights being painfully blinding. Woo! :)

Now back to NaNoWriMo where two of my characters have gone totally off script and refuse to speak to each other, two of my chapters have merged together, and I have developed both a deep, abiding hatred of my story and a total lack of confidence in my ability to keep this crap going for another 11000 words. Getting stuck this close to the finish line is disheartening to say the least. I will get there, but not as soon as I'd like. Dammit I just wanna stop writing and play Inquisition already! >.<

...I forgot about NaNoWriMo.

HOW DID I FORGET SUCH AN EVENT?!

Dear Saint Nick,

Nearly all the FaWTLs have had a 2014 that has run from moderately disappointing to incredibly crappy. Please sir, for Christmas, may they please have a nice non-stressful, non-insane, non-economically challenging/draining 2015?

P.S. Please please modify Dave's statblock to include cold resistance 10 or better.

P.P.S. Please please PLEASE don't give Freehold anymore batteries for his weather dominator. Or leave him a warm Serbian lady in Christmas stockings to distract him.

2015 better than 2014 sounds good. It would mean continued progress out of crap for me.

BTW: If warm Serbian lady in Christmas stockings won't distract Freehold from weather dominator I will gladly keep her company so she won't get cold from Freehold's antics.

I'm glad it's working well for you!

I actually hate my Transitions lenses. They are okay for some things (walking outside on a sunny day) but not so helpful in other situations. The biggest issue is that they will never tint in a car, since auto glass filters UV, and that's when I most want sunglasses. Also, in colder weather, they take forever to un-tint when you go indoors from being outside.

I think next time I will get a pair of prescription sunglasses to keep in the car.

Ugh. Still moving. Plus it's cold. Plus I'm working a lot of hours at the moment.

I'm feeling very disconnected. I need my downtime.

Oh, you got the normal transitions lenses then? There's another kind that can work in the car and that's those one I have. I forget what crazy name they had for it. The catch is that they never go all the way to clear, which is totally fine for someone with extreme (is it photophobia or photosensitivity? They seem to use both terms interchangeably) problems with light like me. Apparently it's common for people with super pale blue eyes. Anyways, I need a little bit of tint even for dealing with indoor lights at a normal level, so it works for me.

But I totally get what you're saying about the cold weather. I'm getting used to having to deal with a couple of minutes of cloudy vision as the tint takes its own sweet time adjusting after coming in from the cold. Still better than what I was dealing with before, and if that's the worst thing then I can totally deal with that. :)

the same frames? That's cheating! You need new frames every time you upgrade your prescription!

Shadow Lodge

New frames cost money. And aren't always covered by insurance, if you're lucky enough to have insurance that covers glasses/contacts.
