Council of Thieves PC - reboot as Lipstick Barbarian

Advice

So I scrapped the Bard plan and went with Urban Barbarian instead.

Janyss is CG to a fault; when she's a wrong it has to be righted. She firmly believes that it's up to her and no one else. Her prized possession is her father's curve blade. He was a noble man and she ever strives to live up to his standards.

More background to come - gonna try for a paragraph or two this time around.

Seems like a fun character. :)

Your Wis is listed as 9 one place and 10 another. I believe 9 is the correct number.

'Chelaxian' doesn't exist, as a language. The Chelish speak Common. Infernal might be a good alternative, being not uncommon in the empire.

Advice:

Wear more armor. Even if it loses you out on Dex bonus when raged, it has the advantage of being on even when you're not. Studded Leather would net you an 18 AC (19 when raging), for example.

Are you planning on going for Combat Expertise and Maneuver Feats? It seems a bad route to go as a Barbarian, and if you're not, dropping Int to 12 to get Wis to 10 seems a good plan.

Overall, it looks pretty good.

Two things:

First, and this is easy, I would put a skill point into swim and climb when you can. Westcrown is a port, and there are buildings everywhere.

Second, careful with the writing of wrongs. Helping people is good. Charging into a temple of Asmodeus because "they are evil'" is suicidal. As long as you know when you are outgunned, you can have a great time.

I was under the impression that Golarian sported national dialects.

Can't do it, man. She's armorless for a reason. It slows you down and she can't even wear Med anyway. I might go with a Buckler. Long-term goal is Bracers of Armor and the other usual AC enhancements. Also, I'll be looking for rage powers that help with Dodge.

Planning on Combat Reflexes, which I thought had a 13 INT req. I'll check that.

Basically, she's got HP and Crowd Control.

Swim and Climb are on the list, both now and at later levels. As righting wrongs, yeah, she's not suicidal.

Checked Combat Reflexes - we're golden. Thinking more about a Buckler and at low level taking a +1 hit on attack doesn't seem so bad. +7 is still really good and the extra point of AC will be most welcome.

Okay - new to Barbies in general. Are there any rage powers that are just plain better?

Right now, I'm looking at Guarded Stance at second level.

It does, but some nation/culture needed Common as their native tongue. So Cheliax and Taldor have it as such.

It doesn't slow you down that much. Long term, yes, you're gonna want other things to increase AC instead of armor, but prior to having those available, studded leather and (a bit later) a Mithral Chain shirt will literally save your life. Repeatedly. And have basically nonexistent Armor Check penalties (completely nonexistent if you go with Leather Armor [which won't even cost you any Dex mod to AC], then Masterwork Studded Leather, and then the Mithral Chain Shirt).

+2 AC all the time is simply better than +1 AC some of the time.

Yeah, those are cool.

Yeah Combat Reflexes has a Dex requirement. I also highly reccomend Power Atack and Furious Focus, as well as eventually an Agile Weapon (though you may want a Furious one first). No reason your damage needs to lag behind other Barbarians just because you're Dex focused.

As for the buckler, you only get the bonus AC in rounds you don't use the sword, so it's really not worth it. Just grab Studded Leather (or at least leather) if you want more AC.

Superstition is great (as are some of the powers that follow it), though it does have a downside and might not fit the flavor. The Beast Totem Rage Powers line is realy good. Lesser gives you a backup weapon, Beast Totem gives you +2 AC when raging and improves with level, and Greater gives you Pounce.

What other Rage Powers are good really depends on what you're aiming for, though if you don't like Beast Totem, many of the other totem lines are good. And some GMs will let you get more than one of those, if you like. So what are you aiming for?

Guarded Stance is not that good and I'd go with something else, personally.

Sorry, don't have books around, but the feat that lets you keep raging while unconscious is a life-saver. Literally. Otherwise, if you get knocked out while raging, you have a good chance of dying.

Not for an Urban Barbarian like this one. She doesn't even gain any Con while Raging.

It's still a decent Feat but a lot less essential.

Leather Armor is viable and will probably remain so at least through 8th level.

Janyss is a highly controlled individual, which is why her Rage ability is so unique. I want her rage powers to reflect that.

What exactly is a "lipstick barbarian" supposed to be and where does expression that originate from?

She's not your stereotypical STR Barbarian, rather she's all about DEX. Her CHA isn't bad either (considering making it 14). She's actually quite attractive and doesn't look anything like a female bodybuilder.

Sorry, I missed the urban barbarian part.

Might also want a one-handed backup weapon. Curve blades are nice and all, but sometimes you need that other hand for something.

Are Eastern Armors available? Everyone loves a nice Haramaki, and you can make it part of your outfit without it being excessively armor-y.

I'm thinking a back-up kukri will do nicely.

Yes - Eastern stuff is fine.

/ in my minds eye, I've always seen elves as more Eastern-flavored than anything else.

Haramaki all the way, then. 1/2 the price of Bracers of Armor and better protection with the same lack of penalties.

About the Haramaki - The fact that it has unlimited DEX bonus and can carry other kinds of armor enhancements makes it a great choice.

Jannys Update

Okay - not sold on the 8 WIS, but 14 CHA and 20 DEX are very hawt indeed.

Silken Ceremonial Armor is identical, except for a slight hike in price and weight...and, IMO, vastly more stylish.

All my money is pretty much going to the MWK ECB, so I just can't pay that tax.

I was more talking about at higher levels.

And the new sheet looks really good, actually. I'd grab Superstition and eventually Iron Will to help with saves (particularly Will Saves), but it looks fun and effective otherwise.

Money - changed my trait to Rich Parents and so I had to fiddle with stats again. Wasn't a major change and now I can afford some very cool stuff.

If doing this (which is probably not the best choice mechanically, FYI), I'd totally make the Curveblade Masterwork and play up the 'father's sword' angle, enchanting it as you level instead of grabbing any other weapons.

Oh it hurts, definitely. Indomitable Faith is a much better Trait. However ,I do want the sword to be an heirloom, so standard starting gold is going to be insufficient for my needs.

Haramaki can be used as an accessory to an outfit rather than a full body robe. Much more versatile. Also, you can special material the Haramaki much easier than Silken Ceremonial.
