Awwww, but I've got delicious troll bait right here.
Chum waters further out, bro. We swim here.

Are you kidding? Bait trolls here? Haven't you heard of not s***ing where you eat, or something like that.

Besides this isn't very good troll country. There are better places than here. But it is a good place for snipe hunting.

Madclaw, you are full of confusery. After you enjoy your song, you just sit right down and have a cold drink of water over here by the fan until the light-headed feeling goes away. But not by Bitter Thorn, because he's really loopy today. I think he's still in shock from Thread Reentry.

You were playing with troll bait, now, don't deny it! You just relax and keep the hermetic seal on the bait until you're ready to head out for Threads Unknown.

Oh ok, I had not intended to use it here. I was merely saying I had some juicy bait in this tightly sealed lock box with hazardous materials stickers all over it.

Silver Crusade

Every time I hear the expression "troll bait," I get the image of those little shops by lakes and campgrounds that sell live bait. Like we're buying a little cup of soil and worms to bait trolls with.

So, I was playing with dice on and around St Patrick's day, and I had an idea; an idea that I am now shocked I never ran into before, and I'd like feedback on it from gamers with more experience out in the gaming world than I. (Which I assume is most of you, but I'd love feedback from any and all.)

It's a method of character ability score generation. "Take 18 d6s and roll them all at once. Now arrange three dice of your choosing next to the six abilities until all 18 dice are assigned. You may juggle the dice around, but no re-rolls (no, not ever ones). Once you have assigned three dice to each score, you've got your abilities."

1. Anybody ever seen this before?
2. Too much fun?
3. Too persnickety?
4. Other?

I'd love to hear what people think. I thought it was fun, and the only guinea pigs I had at the time were my two youngest nephews (not new to RPing, by the way -- I started them real young!), and they thought it was fun.

Yes we did an entire campaign that way. guy I have gamed with for years Larry came up with the idea back in 1990 and the game lasted until 2002 or so. Heavily house ruled 1st edition game. I um caused a stir when I pulled the ultimate Yahtzee. Thats right CrimJ did the ultimate roll. 18d6 I rolled 18 6's!!!! I had witnesses. 8 of them. All speechless, myself included. That was hands down the most billy badassed character EVER. Jack the Archer-Ranger.

My DM likes heroic campaigns. So, his Ability scores are as follows:

Roll 4d6, dropping the lowest die.
Repeat 12 times, assign them how you want.

I once tried to introduce the 18d6 method into my group, but the GM said something to the effect of "OH GOD NO PLEASE NOT THAT." My group uses almost the same: 4d6, drop the lowest, repeat 9 times.

As for ultimate Yahtzee, I've never gotten that, but I have gotten two pairs of two six-siders to stack while rolling a character.

40d10. Hits on 8 through 10. Describe it.

Sounds like Exalted.

Played it once.

Will stay that way.

Maybe it was just that wild look in Bitter Thorn's eyes that was making me nervous.

I once played in a game that was 24d6 and another that was 32d6. It was CRAZY. The lowest stat in the entire party was a 15.

But I generally do 4d6 reroll ones. I don't get the fascination with the point buy system. Yeah it can be more balanced and you can ensure your stats, but it generally means if you want an 18 without racial bonuses you have to have a dump stat. Yeah, dump stats can add a dimension to role playing but I'd rather do that and not my stats. I give my GMs enough plot hook/screw me over stuff in my backstories anyways.

Was there glitter? Because EMS' name makes me think that him going off the handle would involve a lot of glitter.

Touche, but I guess since it's a public place and generally drinking in public, when it's not in a drinking establishment or one with a drinking license it's generally frowned upon/illegal in some places.

I cant remember if I posted this here or read it here, but people should be made aware of The Key of Awesome.

Hmm. I wonder how he would feel about the fact that there is a popular Mediterranean restaurant here called Aladdin's, and it is generally pronounced in the Anglicized fashion?

Does it help if I say the Anglicized pronunciation is used in the Disney movie, therefore it is ok?
