~laughter~ Naked screaming and running away? Wow. So sexy.

Ah DC. I had a lot of fun there whilst stuck at Ft Meade for training. The museums there are something else, and the streets themselves are a carnival freak show. I still have pictures of my buddy hugging a guy in a giant condom outfit

*blink*

Been to DC once. It was January and I was on a school trip. It was very pretty despite (or perhaps because of) the cold, but too urban and too political. I could never live there.

Nice. I have always wanted to visit there. The problem would be getting me out of the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress.

Which Smithsonian? There are many of them. :)

Way too much detail about D.C.:
My personal favorites are Natural History (dinosaur bones and shiny rocks, yay!!), Air and Space (spaceships and airplanes, yay!), the National Zoo (Pandas!! Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!), and the American History Museum, but I think they're all worth visiting at least once-- and they're FREE. And there are a bunch of other free museums and activities not affiliated with the Smithsonian, like the National Arboretum and the Frederick Douglass House, to name two of my particular favorites.

I spend enough time at the Library of Congress in meetings that I've never felt a need to visit there in my off hours, though they do have an excellent gift shop, and I understand that their public tours are very good. Just don't go there expecting to be able to wander the stacks, because you can't do that.

But there's so much more to D.C. than Fed-Tourist world. It's a city of neighborhoods, and some of my favorite things about it are things you only find if you get out of touristland and into the neighborhoods. (Like the house where Zora Neale Hurston lived when she was a student at Howard University, and Duke Ellington's house, and Abraham Lincoln's summer cottage on the grounds of the Old Soldiers Home.)

Umm... Sorry, that's probably more than you wanted to know. But I love my city, and people who don't live here think there's nothing here except the government and the iconically touristy stuff, which is simply not true.

My history major side would love to visit DC, but the teacher in me would want to put the entirety of Capitol Hill in time out.

Well, it is urban, but if you were on a typical school trip, I'd bet that you think it was 'too political' because you didn't get out of Fedland. There's a whole city outside the tourist zone, honest! :)

I dunno, I've been streaming Voyager on Netflix lately, because I never saw it when it was on the air. I haven't hated it so far, though I still think DS9 was the best of the ST series.

Pretty much everyone who lives here wants to put Capitol Hill in time out. :)

Probably. Still doesn't change the lack of desire to live there, though. I lived eight years in Phoenix and that pretty much solidified my "I never want to live in a big city again" mindset.

I too really like Voyager, but DS9 is much better.

Wasn't trying to change your mind-- just pointing out that your judgment of the city as 'too political' based on the limited part of it that people typically experience on school trips may not be all that accurate.

Morning, all. What did I miss?

I've been working through The Next Generation myself on Netflix. Maybe DS9 will be next.

Our four-day forecast from Weather Underground:

  • Thursday: 106
  • Friday: 106
  • Saturday: 106
  • Sunday: 104 (cold front?)

Perhaps we'll get lucky and it will be a dry heat here at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers .

Chattanooga forecast:

  • Thursday: 100
  • Friday: 104
  • Saturday: 109
  • Sunday: 108

Yeah some rain would be nice right about now. >_<

Silver Crusade

I guess I should quit complaining about the 90 degree heat.

Who needs a jacuzzi when you can step outside?

At least we're not on fire. Sympathies and well-wishes to the Coloradans who are suffering through those awful blazes.

Searching for phantasmal documentation.

EDIT: Phantasms discerned!

Ghost posts again! Methinks FAWTL may once again be getting too big for its own good. Cue Gary "click"ing and "hmmm"ing again?

Sometimes I wonder if the worst part about having month-long bouts of not-quite-depressive apathy is the whole cleaning up a month's worth of stuff in the apartment once it's over. (Okay, the whole feeling utterly worthless part is worse, but I've learned to sort of deal with that.) Ah well, time to go a-hoovering.

Although before I do that, I'll just note that one of my favourite crime-writers sets a lot, maybe even all, of his books in D.C.

And what Treppa said about the Coloradans.

There were some good Voyager episodes, but a lot of writers really phoned their scripts in, in my opinion. It felt like the franchise regressed.

I played SWTOR for a couple of months and got into the habit of putting on my headphones/mic as soon as I sat down at the PC. Now I do that all the time, and I never Skype or listen to music or game. Stupid habits!

Hmmm, music. Might be a Steely Dan day today. *Dons green earrings.*

G'morning FAWTLfolk!

It's shaping up to be a hot, steamy day here in the mid-Atlantic U.S. I'm mildly annoyed by the fact that the weather has been beautiful (sunny, moderately warm and not terribly humid) since Monday, and yet we have heat advisories forecast for the entire weekend. Why is it gorgeous out when I'm stuck in the office and unbearable when I have time to go out and play? Why, weather gods?? Why do you do this to me?!

Where are you located, Lindisty? I am in Savannah, GA. ~grins~ Yea, I would love to be outside taking the mutt for a walk at one of the parks instead of sitting around in the office.
Washington, D.C., and by that I mean the city itself. <<PET PEEVE ALERT!>> I'm not one of those suburbanites who says I live in D.C. when I really live in Virginia or Maryland.

I may just have to visit...

I liked voyager, but I felt there were too many angsty no win situations. Loved neelix as an interpreter, but not as comic relief.

You're just looking forward to all the fresh brains to be eaten, zombie, admit it. I'm going to do my best to scramble mine before I arrive. XD

Fresh brains?! On gaming convention?! Seriously?

Why won't this week end?

Someone Google hyundai zombie survival machine!

And aeglos, I did no forget, it's just been very busy lately!

Today I tackle...*shudder*....the desk.

So far I've found a pile of Christmas presents I never sent. Good job on that one. :/
And that's why this year everybody is getting gift cards. I am not messing around with this nonsense anymore.
*sigh*

There are stacks of paper and I know that there are several tasks in need of doing that I'll find as soon as I start sorting through the papers. This is why I hate cleaning off my desk. It puts a serious crimp in my procrastination.

And next week it's that time again...time to clean the kidlet's room. His dresser is a lot like my desk. And then there's underneath the bed. And the closet. I think I'm afraid of his closet.

Yes, exactly. I see you in there behind the sports equipment my little video gamer never uses. :/

We've had to institute a new rule where the kidlet has to earn tv time by doing chores and active activities. Because otherwise he just plops his butt in front of the xbox all day. Apparently this is the new obsession as star wars is fading in his interest level.

Welp I finally got around to asking in the Feedback section as to how much effort it would require to install an Ignore User function on the forum. Here's hoping.

So you are going to finally ignore me? Good! I have been trying to ignore myself for over 42 years. Sadly, it has yet to work.

Hmph. Taig beat me to it :)

Anyway, they've said in the past they don't like the "hide user" idea, although it never hurts to ask.
