I thought Quillin had gotten charged in casting color spray. Am I wrong? I will hold my attack till he actually does this as I have already posted as though I was reacting to his sudden action.

I think that as you are separated, have never fought in combat with one another and didn't have much of a plan going into this encounter that you have kicked off combat Seamus.

Sorry about that. I really, really wanted to charge in, but didn't want to mess up any planned actions from Mathieu and Yergi.
I think we're all together now and..Huzzah, we're off! ; )

Haha, I guess this is the Army has After Action Reviews (AAR). We might need one after this encounter, lol. In any case, it appears Walt and I are quiet as all get out, but can't shoot to save our lives (or those of others). I guess we need to spend some time on the shooting range, lol.

If the bandits run away on 17 as it appears, it looks like you and Walter get a parting shot. make it count! I won't be able to reach them. :( curse these little gnome legs.
ZetaG- I've seen other PBPs where the DM just rolls and lists Init at the start of combat to help sort things out (and speed them up). for your consideration.
ZetaGilgamesh |
I've put together the Initiative for this encounter.
23:Seamus
19:Walter
17:NPC/GM
10:Quillin
6:Yergie
4:Mathieu
Hope that helps.PS-I'm just trying to help, please don't get mad.
No, That is fine. I will do so in the future when appropriate.
Mathieu Rordene |
I guess I'm just eager to keep this going. Not sure what everyone else was expecting for posts per day. I am a part of another PbP and its only been going 10 days and already seems to be dead in the water. I definitely don't want that to happen here. I like the makeup of this group. Should allow for some fun role-playing.
What are everyone's expectations?
Right now for me, I expect that I would be able to post anywhere from two to ten times a day.
ZetaGilgamesh |
I expect a minimum of a post a day from each person. If the action has moved along such that I can continue posting more in a day, I will do so. I really do not want this to be work for anyone. I want it to be a game. Entertaining and challenging, but a just a game.
Seamus Fleetfoot |
Are you any of you folks interested in setting a time during Fridays or Saturdays where we got on for like 30-45 minutes and more or less played during that period in real time? I know PBP is in place due to people having time constraints and all, but if you guys like this idea we can find a way to make it work I think. I am in Japan so 9:30am will be 2:30pm Hawaii, 5:30pm Mountain, 6:30pm Central, and 7:30pm Eastern the day prior. 930am Saturday=2:30pm Friday Hawaii, ect.
I give the time example because I am currently looking at a world time clock in my office, lol.
Just a thought.

I believe the brother belongs to one of the prisoners. He shouted at the end of Zeta's last post.
ZetaGilgamesh |
The dead brother is slumped under the tree. Until now only Seamus had known that he was dead, due to his perception check.
You can use a standard action to stabilize a dying individual. There is no attack roll required as a dying person is considered "helpless".
ZetaGilgamesh |
Walter. I am not sure if you are aware that there is still a valid enemy on the board, he has not yet fled as you have the initiative on him. If you are allowing him to flee consciously, or taking a shot, please post accordingly.
Mathieu Rordene |
I am running to work, so I will not be able to post for the next couple of hours. I will resolve the remainder of the actions when I return.
Thanks Zeta. This is fun. I can't believe I have never joined a PbP before.
And to everyone, thanks. If you have any advice for a PbP noob, feel free to dish it up. I want to absorb as much as I can and hopefully be able to return the favor by GMing my own PbP.

Who's Emet? Did I miss something?
Emet is our wagon driver. We left him behind (hopefully to guard my stuff ;) )
Mathieu, I am not sure you really want to save the second fallen bandit. From ZetaG's rather GRUESOME description :P he doesn't have much of a face left. and honestly we only need one to question (Yergie saved hers) and then there's the what to do with evil captives issue.

Sure, I'd forget him. Evidently can't read either. :) I suppose someone should go back for him.
I'll leave the dispatching of bandits to the rest of the group. I'm just a traveling healer. I do find it funny that the Paladin and I have the same trait. Definitely not planned. :)
Seamus Fleetfoot |
Yeah Guys, I plan on downloading the Halfling book tonight. I have been looking forward to that one for minute. I have the Gnome book and it was alright so I expect this will be good, too. @ Zeta, I was wondering if we are able to use the alternate racial traits from the APG? I meant to ask before we started. If I can make a small adjustment I would like to take Warslinger in place of Surefooted. Let me know. Thanks.

It's a useful trait!
I would need a move action to draw my bow and ready an arrow, right? Would I be able to take a 5' step and fire with a penalty at the fleeing npc?
ZetaGilgamesh |
At this point you have several options with the fleeing warrior. You can attempt to chase him down this instant. You can attempt to track him down at some later time or you can ignore him altogether. If you give chase at this time, I will continue combat, otherwise I will consider the encounter to be complete and you may deal with the aftermath/results of your actions.
ZetaGilgamesh |
Seamus, and anyone else who wants to look at the alternate racial traits: I like the alternate racial traits. Unlike the alternate class features they seem to add flavor without altering the underlying aspects of the race. If anyone wishes to utilize an alternate racial trait at this point, please make the change and post what you have done. Please find a way to work the change into your background as a storytelling point, perhaps add an interesting story/anecdote to your story.
Let's make this the last point where we change the basic characters. If there are any other issues, please raise them now, or forever hold your peace.
BTW, I really like the idea of both Yergenflorn and Mathieu having sacred touch. The rebuke death is slightly different as it stops the hp loss automatically, but restores no hp. The character stays at whatever negative hp they were at. The rebuke death gives hp to a character with negative hp. They can be stable and still get hp back and then come above zero and get back into the fight. Essentially for Mathieu, use of Sacred touch is a last ditch, or he can use Sacred touch and save Rebuke death for more tactically important characters depending on the situation. Or he can save Sacred touch for NPCs so he doesn't burn the rebuke death uses for the day. Sacred touch has infinite uses as well, so it can be an ace in the hole.

Too much?
I admit that I am having fun being colorful. I am trying to paint the most realistic(fantasy) picture that I can. Besides, who ever said that combat was nice?
In the same vein, anyone else read Joe Abercrombie books?
Seamus Fleetfoot |
A couple of things;
1.) I am liking the flow and narration of this game. Zeta the combats have been just fine. I think the realistic description of the fallen traveler added a more emotional element to the scene. Keep up the good work.
2.) I hope this group of players dosen't fall out as I think we will be able to fall into a nice groove.
3.) Mat and Quillin, I picked up the Halfling PDF tonight and it is possibly the best Pathfinder book I have purchased to date. The writing and material provided so many hooks and background pieces I may never play another race again. I have loved halflings and gnomes for a long time and no it is cemented. The PF halfling so much grittier than the typical take the usually are given. I am already working in bits and pieces into Seamus'background, see if you can pick up on them.
4.) Zeta, after looking through the book I think I am better off leaving Seamus as is. I'll pick one of the sling feats later instead giving up my surefooted feature.
5.)@ Walter, The time I gave was not concrete. I just happened to be looking at the big world time clock in my office that showed all the US time zones inrelation to Japan and it just happened to be 9:30 at that moment for me, lol. So much for doing I should be thanks to you guys, lmao. If we want to work on a close to real time session here and there, we would need to discuss what time zones we are all in and work from there. Cheers and sorry for any confusion.

What Zeta said. ;-) It's pretty much a difference of hp gained versus just stabilize and Rebuke Death is limited per day where Sacred Touch is unlimited. I like the combination a lot. Especially for a campaign where we may have more than one or two encounters per day.
It does present an interesting tactic though. Since both Yergie and I have the Sacred Touch trait. We may be less inclined to do nonlethal damage. Especially when we just need to touch them to stabilize. Of course there is always the possibility that we do too much damage and the NPC is just dead.

I don't think so. I've read much more gruesome descriptions before. I like it, it adds to the imagery and helps to better picture in my mind what is happening.
And no, I haven't read Joe Abercrombie books. But now I'm going to have to look them up at the library the next time I'm their. Right now I'm working on the Dresden Files.
ZetaGilgamesh |
Walter, the bow is a short bow, in good condition. There are 11 arrows. The horses are draft animals, and while in decent condition do not have the proper tack for riding, nor do they look like they have been anything but draft animals for the last few years.
Quillin |
Too much?
Not at all. I was just joshing.
I sure hope we don't need a half dozen rebuke deaths in a day. :) we might want to slow down. I guess there is also the stabilize orison, but i guess if it is a trade off b/n a trait or an orison. I'd prob use up the trait, too.
I'm AZ time -7 GMT. I'm not sure about committing to a time fri or sat as i often go camping or get away for part of the weekend.
Where in OH, Yergie? i've got lots of family in Cleveland and Toledo.
Seamus Fleetfoot |
I completely understand when it comes to getting away, Quillin. I would say by the spread we are looking at on time zones it would be moderately difficult to arrange such an event anyhow, lol.
Seamus Fleetfoot |
I plan on working connection to the Bellflower Network into the backstory of Seamus as we go along. With him being a quasi-Andoran agent as it is I think it will work nicely, especially considering the anti-slavery bent the River Kingdoms have. I would say there should be plenty of Bellflower members in the area. Willthis work for you,Zeta?
