Magus + Arcane trickster

Round 3: Revised Magus Discussion

Just a random thought... Could this be a nice combo?
Magnus L4, Rouge L3, arcane tricster LX?

It can be -- but that hit to BAB is really going to hurt. I would suggest a sword of subtlety to help with that, and maybe gang up to help your flanking as well (invisibility is nice, but it's not fool proof -- a good means of flanking is always a great back up and boon).

If you go this path I almost recommend going Magus 5 Assassin 3 Arcane Trickster "x" -- this gets you another Intelligence based ability and poison use as well as uncanny dodge.

However you want to go about it though the hardest parts will be:
Caster level -- This is going to be low for you so you'll want to do what you can to bring it back up.
MAD -- In some ways you aren't as MAD as other Magus -- after all you don't need to rely on strength to get your hits to hurt -- however the stats you still need you need even more than before.
BAB -- The fact you'll only get +5 in 10 levels really hurts -- finishing this build with levels in eldritch knight is a great idea -- but hurts your caster level again.

You especially don't want more than 4 levels in either rogue or magus since any more will ruin your already poor BAB that much more.

If I was to do this I would probably build it like this:

Dex = Int> Con > Str = Wis > Cha
Elven Magus 4/ Rogue 3/ Arcane trickster 10/ Eldritch Knight 3
Arcana: Accuracy
Rogue Talent: Weapon focus
Feats: Weapon finesse, piranha strike, combat casting, dodge, nimble moves, shadow strike

piranha strike? Not familiar, where's it from?

Qadira companion book -- it's basically power attack based off of dex that only works with light weapons (and no you can't two hand or anything for x3 damage -- it's only the x2 for first weapon x1 for second *if you have one*).

I think that´s actually from the Sargava Guide... Definitely not Qadira. No Piranha´s in the desert...

I think you're just hurting yourself as the combo does not synergise well at all. swap out magus for wizard and sorcerer or just go straight Maga.

It does have some benefits -- You have the armor which is if you want a flanking arcane trickster is almost a must -- the ability to full attack with sneak attacks on all those hits and cast a spell with sneak attack would really be nice too. Assassin would synergize a bit better but would be hard to work in without losing more BAB.

I'm an X dnd player and havent played pathfinder before actually. Me and my friend plan to meet for a weekened and play from level 1-10. I mean, with rapid level ups. Just for us to remember the good old days.

I find a magnus/rouge/arcane tricster interesting, but it may not be the most powerfull one, even though it will have some nice things going for it, regarding damage, and tricks you can use. First cast a stunning spel and then sneak attack :)

However I fear for the powerlevel at the first levels, but I dont know if a rouge/wizard is much better. At high levels the wizards would be much better ofcourse since that would mean my arcane tricster gets a lot more spells... But thematicly, I actually enjoy the rouge/magnus a lot, so maybe I will play it regardless.

Regarding assasin: you then have to be evil and kill someone for no other reason than becoming assasin.

As it may be a fun combo, its not for me, cuz I've allways played the hero :)

Depends on the level you start at -- if you start at higher level (say level 8 for example) you might have been an assassin -- before having a change of heart and changing alignment. You won't be able to gain anymore assassin levels -- but that's not a huge problem.

The Exchange

I know this isn't entirely on topic, but PLEASE stop spelling it Rouge. It's ROGUE. Rouge is make-up, rogue is kill stuff.

Speaking of Arcane Trickster. I think they make a better assassin then the assassin class does now. Disintegrate with sneak attack anyone?
