The Abyssal Plague

4th Edition

The Exchange

The Novels release mid 2011, and seem to involve at least for now Dark Sun, Forgotton Realms, and Greyhawk settings. Apparently Tharizdun is the villain being bandied about as the BBEG for this...

Any Thoughts?

I did not hear anything about Greyhawk being involved. I think they would have to release a Setting for it first.

The Exchange

THARIZDUN is a combination of three old words...Thyr - rei - dhuno.

Thyr: Hole, Tunnel, Cross over
Rei: Tear, Rip, Rift, Posession (property)
Dhuno: Hill, Town, enclosed place (or Dun: Debt Collector)

So Tharizdun is not a name, rather it is a warning: The Debt Collector is comming to take posession.

You can realy imagine little old ladies in Villages, Ghettos, and poor districts screaming "Thyr-rei-dhuno!" that the debt collector is coming and folks who owe money scarpering for their lives.

They said it would affect all settings.

Yes... Greyhawk is not a setting in 4E yet...In fact the times they mention it, they mention the ones they released, never mentioning greyhawk, well, since that was never made a setting in 4E....yet...

Nentir Vale is not in the Greyhawk setting? They have Orcus and the Greyhawk Gods swanning around.

They have modified versions of some of the Greyhawk gods running around.

The "default" setting has gods gleaned from Greyhawk, the Forgotten Realms, and brand new ones as well.

But it is not Greyhawk, it does not have the history of Greyhawk.

Their Core world is a smattering of their many settings they have had, but it is Not Greyhawk.

Once they release a book called "Greyhawk Campaign Guide" then they will have Greyhawk,

As of yet Greyhawk has not been added to the settings in 4e by WotC, home conversion notwithstanding.

So Tharizdun is about to go multi setting? I assume that is who they mean by 'The Chained God'.

In D&D 4th lore Tharizdun is...

Spoiler:
the one that got corrupted by the Heart of Darkness that he then used to create the Abyss out of the primal chaos to bring forth the demons as agents of destrcution of everything.

The young gods moved to prevent this and chained Tharizdun to an unknown and forgotten place where he ails powerlessly since then while his demented followers try to free him and thus usher in the end of the world as we know it (da da daaaa).

Add to this the fact that in D&D 4th cosmology all worlds (Greyhawk, FR, Dark Sun, whatnot) exist just in different parts of the primal chaos it is easy to see why such a threat would affect them all.

Isn't Tharizdun also

Spoiler:
the evil one behind the whole temple of elemental evil?

Perhaps they mean Ivid the Undying.

'The Foul Tharizdun is able to send forth the Voidharrow, a sentient crimson liquid that is crystaline in nature (and an extention of himself) out into the multiverse. This is a terrible plague that turns anyone 'exposed' into a Demonic beast.'

The Blood of Tharizdun...

For Mystara, whose Universe is teeming with Immortals who could hand Tharizdun his own organs on a platter, It is uncertain that the Voidharrow will have any major effect on the setting.

ToEE:
That would be Zuggtmoy, the fungal demon queen....

I say its all a lie. Tharizdun was the first Paladin...totally uncomprimising and planning to do away with the need for Gods.

Of course they conspire to chain him to a rock.
