Who's your favorite Dragon?

I would say mine is the black dragon, the who thing about lurking in swamps, polluting the water, the skeletal appearance is pretty cool.

What about you guys, whats your favorite kind of dragon and why?

Liberty's Edge

Bruce Lee. Any reason stated would not be sufficient.

My favorite is the magazine Dragon, because it evolved into Paizo :)

Mine has always been the Blue Dragon. (I really like the color blue, the lightning breath, and their entire outlook on life, society, etc.)

Years ago in a 2nd Edition AD&D game (one I got my sister into playing... and it was just her and I) there was a blue dragon villain - Indigogenese Hai Dracos. I really liked him... but her wizard and fighter put him down (and I might have been easy on her, so she wouldn't "hate" the game or me for that matter).

Of course... "Indigo's" sister... Sapphirella... had a "mad" on for those girls that killed her brother. She almost took them out too...

So... Blue Dragons for me. :)

Bronze for me, although I like the look of the 3.5 blacks.

Dude, I am so killing all of you characters...

;-)

I've always liked the silver dragons. I never could resist the concept of a chivalrous knight errant.

white it had the lowest cr but in the hands of a great dm it was by far the hands dragon in the game (you never fight them in caves..... never.....cringe)

Copper- I have to love the trickster angle.

Copper, the one time I played as one was really fun. The jokes I played on the other players will be remembered for a while.

Adamantite (2E) or Adamantine (3.5 Dragon Magazine), but hated the 4E reincarnation. So, is there one in the Besiary 2? If not, better make one.

Love the gold dragon.. Great spell list and natural ability's. (Phase Shift, Greater Teleport, etc).

Noticed the Pathfinder version no longer support the Catfish whiskers, i kind of like those on a gold.

Red. Kidnap the princess, lure the knight in, roast the knight on a spit. Its like getting the pizza to deliver itself.

Shadow - gaining negative levels in a fight with a dragon makes PC's poop themselves..

Silver Crusade

Tie.

Silver becauOOH SHINY! Also, preferential to cold, so it all works out. The guy on the cover of the Dragon Compendium is probably my favorite example.

Blue. Favorite color, favorite breath weapon, favorite modus operandi for an evil dragon. (much prefer the sleeker design for them in Pathfinder, my general love for Lockwood's take on dragons as a whole(especially the silvers, notwithstanding)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Rand al'Thor

The Last Dragon.

"Who's the Master?"
"Sho'Nuff!"

I like Draco from Dragonheart cause Sean Connery is pimp.

Tiamat... because she is a total b****

+1 for the Silver dragon.

Elliot.

OR Night Fury.

My Favorite dragon ....Puff! The original magic dragon.

As far as D&D dragons the Fang Dragon from the Draconomicon.

No Breath weapon or magic just a crap load of angry damage dealing badness.
Claw for claw he does better melee damage than any other dragon. Breath weapons and spells are nice but by an experianced party they are very easily countered, straight HP damage not so much.

Shadow Lodge

Blue. Lightning = Badass. Dragon = Badass.
Dragon breathing lightning = COMPLETE BADASS.

Blue, no contest.

Remember that red dragon that raized the town, stole the princess and roasted the adventuring party before he went down? Yeah, a Blue put him up to that.

And of course Skie.

In pre-3.x D&D, shadow dragons. (I just thought their breath weapon was nerfed too much in 3.x for them to still be favourite.)

In 3.x, fang dragons, especially if they have the multi-headed template. ;)

What were shadow dragons like in earlier editions?

TriOmegaZero wrote:

From 1e MM2 page 59: “This stuff [the breath weapon] blinds those within its confines, even those with infravisual abilities, and lowers their life energy so as to leave them only 25% of their usual vitality (level or hit dice; 50% if a saving throw is successful) for as many turns as the dragon has age categories. Spells will be lost permanently from such exposure until relearned or regained normally. Exposure does not affect a shadow dragon at all, of course.”

(A “turn” was 10 minutes in 1e, IIRC.)

Can't... it's WOTC's unreleased IP.

Io

Io isn’t the impartial, uncaring entity that most of us think he is – in reality the True Dragon is also the multiverse’s True and Ultimate Evil. He’s imprisoned for now, but the seals are weakening. He is gathering all manner of Evil to him, and some Good too – I hear he’s a very charming fellow who throws the most wonderful dinner parties…what? Sorry, anyway, he’s imprisoned within Adamant Mountain, the ultimate dungeon. Of course it’s another dungeon, he’s a dragon isn’t he? And yes, as the name implies, the mountain is made entirely of adamantine. And the mountain is enchanted with super duper extra strong anti-dimensional magic, so you can’t just blip in and out of trouble…*cough*…I mean, so that Io can’t escape.
--So says your DM, through some old sage git who dies of old age at this very moment, so he can’t give you any more information. Um, no, Speak with Dead doesn’t work. He’s too crotchety to return from his eternal rest. No, don’t bother visiting him on the outer planes…

Io, the True Dragon
Io appears as the biggest dragon you’ve ever seen. I know I say that about every dragon, but I promise I won’t say it again. It’s extra true this time. His scales are flawless mythril plates of draconic perfection. How’re they different from Bahamut’s platinum scales and a silver’s silver scales? I dunno, they’re more shiny. Or something.

Pffft I Don’t Even Have to Roll: Seriously, even if my bonuses weren’t crazy high, I’m a freakin’ overdeity. That means I’m treated as rolling a 20 on any check, saving throw or attack roll. Roll those attack rolls anyway though, I might get a critical threat! Oh and I always deal maximum damage – whether physical, breath weapon or spell. (Though, as if I would use a direct damage spell – they’re so nooooob!)

specific dragon? Dragotha
generic dragon type? the badass reptilian personification of spite, wrath, and fury known as fang dragons, of course. Deep dragons were a favorite in 2e also.

Got it in one.

~~Sharoth~~

Definitely the Blue Dragon. I built a lair for one not too long ago. The door to get in is solid steel and locked. No problem, the rogue starts to pick the lock and the Blue Dragon breathes electricity at the door from the other side. Zap. Then the party needs to climb a metal ladder to get up to another level. They're suspicious of anything metal now, so they waste all kinds of time getting around it. Then cover the floors in the lower lair with a thin layer of non-conductive material and put a few inches of water everywhere. Now the dragon can zap the whole party from around a corner or from behind a locked door just by breathing into the water.

Of course, energy resistance and such are good protections, but there's just a lot of fun to be had working with electricity.

I realize this is a bit off topic, but can someone explain to me the connection between (Earth) and lightning? Such as how a blue dragon has the (Earth) subtype and has lightning breath. Or how the shaitan genie is immune to electricity. What is the connection?

Blue are the Original Dragons of the Desert. ((This was before they added other desert dragon)).

Blue Dragon still have 20 foot Burrowing speed. And us to be know for hiding under dunes, hills, and other underground desert traps ((Less so now, due to other sand dragon become more popular)).

And besides, not being immune to something creates the illusion that Io can be defeated. ;)
