Investigation in D&D - GUMFinder

3.5/d20/OGL

We'll be creating a product which bolts the investigative side of the Pelgrane Press GUMSHOE system onto 3/3.5/Pathfinder. There are a few pitfalls of which we are aware, but I wanted to get some feedback from you to help us put this together. First, is this of any interest? Second, what would you like to see in th document?

This is not a thread for a general critique of the GUMSHOE system, though do feel free to start your own.

I admit to not having read the Gumshoe system but having heard a lot about it. I am curious what you feel the investigative system will bring to D&D that cannot already be done using the existing system.

I've never heard anything about Gumshoe, but I wonder how the system would handle divinations. Any system that just threw them out the window would be a fail in my view.

It treats treasure and combat differently to information gathering. Not noticing an opponent sneaking up on you is fun, not finding a handout because of a failed roll is not. If you've got an informational ability under those circumstances, and you need the information for the adventure to continue, you'll get it. You can also spend points from an ability to get a special benefit (often useful but not information - the guard's duty roster, or where the treasure is at).
