Question: Round 3

Lets say I get into Round 3, and one of the items in Round 1 really inspires a villain concept. Are the usable? I know it's a minor thing, I just wanted to know, is all.

I doubt there will be any official answer to the question until the round 3 rules are announced in February, but in past years the case has been that content from previous rounds is permitted to be used. (In fact, i could be mistaken and can't find out for certain since last years rules seem to have broken links, but I could swear that last year in one of the rounds there was a proviso that you were allowed to use content from the previous years RPG superstar if you wanted.)

My money is on "use one of the other 31 archetypes from Round 2 for your villain" as the twist, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, possible; but that wasn't what I was saying. The OP's question here wasn't about being required to use material from a prior round, but whether or not one would be allowed to use prior material even if it weren't required. For instance, assuming the third round required you to stat up a villain from a round 2 archetype, then yeah, that's the twist; but the OP was asking if you'd be allowed to equip that villain with one of the wondrous items from the first round in addition to giving him a second round archetype. Which was permitted in prior years, though off the top of my head I can't recall if anyone ever did that.

Thanks for the clarification.

But yes, the question I was going for was this: Lets say 'Contestant X' makes 'Cool Rogue Item Y'. Upon seeing that item, I decide to create 'Rogue Villain A' who has 'Item Y'. That's what I was wanting to ask about.

Legally its yours to use, but the contest is about creativity. So I wouldnt let an item be the defining factor.

I think so many people are expecting that, the real twist would be if the villain round didn't have that restriction. :P

What Sean said is correct.

Rustin Harp, by Matt Banach, used Jeffrey Scott Nuttall's wondrous item. (I will let you look for it :). As far as I know he is the only one.

Ah! Good memory and/or searching skills. Actually did find another one this morning, though not a villain: Benjamin Bruck's round 4 entry from last year, The Peerless Menagerie of Ashpanjara Isle used Eric Hindley's Hourglass of the Insightful Conjurer as part of the encounter.

Aye, flute stuck with me so I did remember (though admittedly I had to look up the names :)

Now that you mention it, did not the menagerie have most (if not all) of the others' critters?

Nope, just 3, if I recall correctly.

I put a Haga in as a reason to visit the Menagerie (mostly because I liked the idea of tying them into the whole death of Aroden/broken prophecy thing), I had it guarded by Lantern Thralls, and it got attacked by Ardorwesps in my encounter.

I was actually rather worried at the time about using so much Superstar material, even though it was specifically mentioned as being OK to use in the rules for that round.

Yeah, and it was flippin' cool... if I say so myself...

'Tis true. Nuttall's twintone flute was just so good, it was a great addition to any high-level bard character.
