[Super Genius Games] Help Plan 2011 for SGG!

Scarab Sages

Well, the 52 PDFs in 52 Weeks celebration is over, and that leaves Super Genius looking to the future. We plan to put out a product a week for the foreseeable future, and already have a lot of irons in the fire. But one of the fascinating things about giving away free PDFs (both here and among friends and colleagues) was seeing what PDF people most wanted for free. It's not enough data to count as scientific, but it is enough to let us make wild speculations about which of our products are the most popular. And that got us to thinking about what our friends and fans might like to see more of next year.

We already have one fan-request book that should come out Q1 of 2011 (The Genius Guide to Valkyries and Viragos), but there's plenty of room for more. And one common complaint I get is that book X {and which book is X varies) is great and all, but should have been longer. So... let's do a sequel!

All through December, anyone can vote in this thread. To vote, just post SGG PDF you'd like to see a sequel to, along with a link to it at the Paizo store (in case anyone wants to take a look at it before voting themself). I'll start things off with every free PDF request from our %2 in %2 celebration as counting as one vote for a sequel, but any Pathfinder PDF already put out by us (Super Genius Games) is eligible. One vote per person, but feel free to comment on other people's votes, or stump for your own choice.

Whatever has the most votes by the start of 2011 gets a sequel sometime during Q1 of next year!

Well you should really do a book about me.

Other than that I say a sequel to the Witches Hexes. The new patrons and adding hexes to them and all the existing patrons book.

I mean if I only get one vote.

Scarab Sages

Okay, I'll call that one vote for the Genius Guide to Succubi 9and only very special fans get to create a whole new product to vote for), and one vote for Witches Hexes. Which puts the voting at:

I'm still for seeing some interesting expansions of the Apprentice Level character concept myself.

Sczarni

It isn't exactly a sequel, but another archetypes book would be amazing.

I'd love to see a sequel to the Time Thief. Any chronomancy-type thing would be highly appreciated. ^^

I have to agree with this one. It was interesting, but it needed more added to it. Then I can do a nobodies to heroes game, like in the movies.

xellos wrote:

+1 for a sequel to the the time thief Expanding chronomancy and how the time thief (or similar characters) would be awesome. There is currenlty a time theif player, and now an organization within my homebrew game. I wouldn't mind

also, i dont imagine it's going to happen (or if the request is actually within the rules) but i would love to see a sequel to the Blacksnake archtype from martial archetypes. The whip based character has been very lonely since 3.0 (with the PrC). It needs some more attention!

Sczarni

Damn I can't believe I forgot, I would change my vote to please have a sequel or expansion to The Genius Guide to Feats of Rune Magic. It was a very simple system which I'm sure could easily have enought added to it to use it as a full blown magic system along with everything else.

Scarab Sages

Since Kolokotroni bothered to link two products, I'm going to both add his time thief vote, and call his request for a blacksnake sequel as a vote for a sequel to The Genius Guide to Martial Archetypes (since that's where I would put more blacksnake-type love).

Which puts the voting here:

Well technically when I said a book about me. I meant actually about me the real queen of the succubi, not just about my lesser sisters. :)

Though to be fair you likely couldn't do one about me with out the epic rules being out. :)

Unless you did it as a cult guide, I mean I could always use more slaves... err servants... I mean worshipers... no no I mean friends... yes friends. I can always use more friends who do my constant unquestioned bidding, with tasty souls...

I'd buy another Time Thief book, as long as you used the same model (hey, if I can't vote for a friend, who can I vote for?) and would also vote for the succubi book.

Liberty's Edge

Heh, I'd vote for another Guide using the Time Thief model too!

Can I vote for a Vanguard sequal the model from Time Thief ?

What do I want from SGG next year? I mean, really, seriously want? Two words: Subscription. Option.

As far as an actual sequel vote, either more on Time Thieves (or a similar class, maybe along the lines of Chronomancer PrCs or something) or else ever more on the Godling classes.

Subscriptions would be nice. I mean all that extra clicking i have to do each week is just silly. Seriously there are like 5 SGG products i dont own, most of them are the one night stands. SGG is already listed as a fixed expense on my budge spreadsheet, so a subscription option would just make it official.

I would like to see a sequel to hoof and horn. I always like to playing weird races.

Thank you very much. A bit too much in a rush today, apparently. My apologies...

I also wanted to echo the suggestion for a subscription possibility; between that option and Dungeon-A-Day, I think I'd pick up a great deal of SGG material.

SGG is already, I think, Pathfinder's de facto equivalent to Dragon Magazine, at least in terms of rules content. New classes, feats, alternative class features, etc. Yes, there are a few other outlets for Pathfinder crunch, but they're either just not as good as SGG or else trying to support multiple rules systems at the same time (to the detriment of each system's fans, IMO), so Super Genius is the best of the bunch. As reliably good as the content seems to me to be, I'd like to be able to put my money where my mouth is and avoid all the extra clicking and hassle of weekly individual or monthly batch purchases and just subscribe already.

I wouldn't disagree. In fact it's kind of Ironic, but SGG has blanket approval at my table (which dragon magazine never did), and a pair of binders full of printouts of my SGG products sits next to my core rulebooks on the shelf and at the table. In fact I have made more houserules to the core rules then i have to SGG products (current count is i believe 5 to 3).

I... I think that's the nicest thing anyone could ever say about us. Wow. We are humbled.

In any case, no one needs to vote in favor of a subscription model anymore -- we have heard that message load and clear! We are now looking at the best way to implement it. I'll update people on this at least monthly, and hope to have good news early next year.

So, that leaves the voting at...

Ice magic was my favorite, but I'd like to toss in a vote for Dark_Mistress on the write in... :)

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32

More support for elementalists. Edit- OK, I'll vote for Earth Magic if you're going to pin me down to one SGG product.

Also, another unsolicited write-in for steampunk madboy fun.

And, have I mentioned how much I'd like more print compilations? I have? OK, just checking.

Engines of Destruction: I'd be glad to see more constructs and more from Sam Hing.

So, the vote totals for Advanced Options: Witches' Hexes (7), GGT Mystic Godlings (8), GGT The Godling (10), and GGT The Time Thief (12) are so high I see this as a 4-way race by now. Even though I think it'll lose, I definitely vote for Witch's Hexes.

Although... is the Dark Mistress even willing to work with SGG to do a book on her? I mean, they'd need access to her thoughts and ideas, and maybe even a picture or two to do it right.

If by some odd chance they actually decided to make my joke a reality which would be silly since no one would buy it. But if they did yeah I would tell them all about my cult... of friends. Really the tile should be.

Super Genius Guide to: The Cult of the Dark Mistress.

A cult devoted to a mysteries succubus that once had been powerful and brought low and changed tactics growing in power. The cult is all about seeding chaos. Setting up shop in a area, encouraging people to indulge and act on their impulse. Gain leverage and use it to set faction against faction. Makes families suspicious of each other. Is Grand Uncle Valnar really planning to leave all his wealth to your sister and not leave you a copper? Encourages spouses to cheat and then drop hints to the other to make them suspicious and the cheater paranoid.

Perhaps encouraging one faction to make a power play. Make sure they had enough support to win but not hold onto the power. Insure any other faction has enough power and influence to also make a legitimate chance as well etc.

Once the infighting, paranoia, and chaos reaches a fevered pitch and is ready to descend into full blow chaos the cult slips away in the middle of the night, under cover of darkness. Leaving pawns and patsies to take the fall when the hero's show up. For it is not about gaining power or real influence, no it is just about spreading chaos in their wake.

The product could start with a scholar who has figured out the cult exists and "tracked" a branch of it down. He does a interview with one of the leaders of the cult.(ala Interview of the Vampire) He writes about how the cult works and they encourage him to join, watch and learn all about them. After the interview starts it switches to a OOC point of view to actually talk about the cult, what it does. How it goes about it, classes likely to be part of it, tactics they use etc. Then maybe a few new spells or feats perhaps a magic item or two or even a relic. Maybe a new class based on the Temptress class from Conan D20 by Mongoose tweaked and updated to Pathfinder. Then it could end with a IC letter by the scholar to his apprentice, saying how he finds himself now drawn to the darkness he sought out to reveal and expose. Now he can no longer trust his own judgment. Unsure weather to burn the book or publish it, not sure what would we hurt the cult more, publishing it might draw more to the cult or seek them out or expose them to hero's to hunt. So he leaves it to his apprentice to read the book and decided, saying not to look for him as he the scholar plans to return to the cult and join them now.

Yeah I know, I have likely given way to much thought into what my cult would be like. :)

I always wanted to expand on the Cult of Hadriel from the "Legions of Hell." The Cult of The Dark Mistress might be an interesting sort of book, especially if you could throw in a little bit of Lovecraftian flavor.

I know you haven't made one before but I am honestly dying for a Genius Guide to Teamwork feats.

Definitely a +1 for the Time Thief. More chronomancy for the win!

At the same time, I'd love to see something like the Cult of Hadriel expanded on.

Sequel to existing product?

Time Thief. Oh yes, please.

A suggestion for future products? I'd really like to see SGG take on weapon evolution in some format - not specifically just firearms, but anything/everything up to a certain time period, and organized by time period.

Hmmmm. That's interesting, but I'm not sure exactly what you mean by weapon "evolution." Do you want a book that talks about how spears turned into the glaive-guissarm-bec-de-volge, focusing only on weapons from 1100 to 1600? Or something else?

Nope, you can vote for anything! And even if it doesn't win, believe me when planning future products we're going to look at this list, ans see how many votes any older product got. So, I'll put you down as a vote for Dragon rider, since it was released first.

So, say I wanted to set a game in the 1100 era - what weapons (and armor, etc. if applicable/doable) are appropriate?

What if I want to bump it up to 1600? 1800?

Back to 800?

Basically, an awesome resource that would allow me to flip to a page/pages and choose period-specific weapons/gear (and I'd really love a comprehensive section on pre-modern firearms).

If each "era" was grouped by general weapon "type", such as your spear/glaive/guissarm/etc example, that might be cool, so one could see a kind of chronological progression, useful for "quick-aging" a campaign world.

Not sure if I'm properly communicating what I'd like to see. More than just a book of weapons, but something that would be a resource for a GM doing campaign planning.

It sounds like you want a book that has lists of weapons appropriate for various eras and regions, running up to early firearms. So you could say "I want a game with the feel of the 100 years War... does the handgunne exist yet? What about plate mail" and look it up.

That sound about right?
