What would be your "Perfect Darklands Campaign"?

Second Darkness

Hiya.

As a follow up to my post about "Expanding the SDAP", it got me thinking. :)

What would be the pefect "Darklands" campaign for you? What would you, as a player, like to see, do, experience, etc. in a Darklands campaign? What would be the MUST haves and what would be the must NOT haves?

In case you folks haven't guessed, I'm preparing for an extended underground campaign using SDAP, so I'm just fishing for ideas. :)

Thanks!

I had an idea for Kingmaker 2: Dark Kingdom. The basic premise is that the PCs are tasked by a Dwarves to clear out and control a section of the Darklands for repopulation by Dwarfs.
Unfortunately the Drow already hold the area, and it's being menaced by a tribe of Minotaurs. I have other ideas but that's the basis of my all underground campaign (inspired by games like Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft).

Lava and backstabbing. Bioluminescence.

No, wait - did you ever see the James Mason/Pat Boone version of Journey To the Center of the Earth? That movie has, basically, every trope that's required of a good Darklands game.

Overpowered events and unusual politics are essential. The Darklands are where the Aboleth invite you over for tea, and ask you to help them defeat something that they can't handle.

I think you have to give a base of operation, or some sort of physical home (like a boat), to give that sense of contrast. The Darklands are just as alien, if not more, than the planes. There's gotta be home.
