Lots of nice touches in that one.
I love that the house cat knows an enemy when it sees one and tries to attack the vampire, while the tiger sits around looking confused. And the Star Trek quote while trying to reach V was great, too.

I think it's less confusion and more fear. Little Whiskers was established to be a bit... cowardly wary of things and other creatures.

1. Drakula said he couldn't have done it without Roy's assistance.
2. Gontor is in V's room.
My only thing is, I don't know why he wants it unless his plan is to go break the gate to force the gods to end the world for Hel to get the dwarven souls.
You were right about Gontor's target.
As for the why, maybe the Orb can be used to circumvent the barrier that prevents the representatives from leaving.
Note that the barrier apparently does not prevent people from entering.

I'm guessing V will actually notice that Blackwing is feeling real physical pain, and that it's different from what he was emoting before.

I was thinking maybe V would notice the bite marks on the tiger.
also deep down I was hoping the vampire would grab the puppet.

Yeah, the bite marks on the tiger will be a clue, but not necessary, since Blackwing can just tell them what happened.

I liked the spawn exploiting the loophole in its master's orders. Fitting for a LE mentality.
And I wonder how much of it is the spawn/Gontor trying to unravel Durkula's plan.

My Mom's dog found out the hard way why you do not mess with cats. He is now VERY respectful around the cats to the point where he will not come into the house if there is a cat near the door.

That said, dogs that have grown up around cats often find that the best way to deal with them is to disregard their tantrums and pernickety ways and treat them like... dogs. With hilarious results as cats tend to object to a cold wet nose near their ass.

So just how many vampire spawn has Durkula created? He got the other dwarf, but did we see him turn this big hammer guy?
Edit: We see Big Hammer Guy as a non-vampire in strip 994. We did not see him get turned. Durkula had to do it off screen, so I'm guessing he turned all of the creed.

Even if he turned all the creed, does he really have enough spells/charges left to get them all vampified in a day?
I'm wondering if Roy's going to be one of those vamped...
EDIT: For the record, I really, really doubt it, but there's something about switching over to Belkar right now, and about his dialogue that suddenly gave me that idea. It's unlikely... but it was a little "huh"-inducing, nonetheless.

Unlikely... Considering there was already an entire arc with Roy killed.

There are a dozen or so clerics around to bring Roy back, but how would he get vamped? Durkula brought up the antilife shell for a reason—Roy was kicking his ass in the third quarter.
Exactly why I find it unlikely. But Belker's dialogue was still kind of ominous in that regard, beyond the "another vampire" line.
Belkar described the mist he saw as Gontor Hammerfell (the first person Durkula turned into a vampire, today), and it looked like the mist was leaving, so this also sets up the timing that Belkar is arriving at the moot just after Durkula asked his spawn to head to the airship.

At first, I thought so, but if you look at the last panel, it looks like the mist is in the doors beyond the goliath* hammer guy.
