I interpreted the line about "a certain rapport" as referencing some previous politicking--that Hel had made promises to a majority of the demigods that in the Brave New World they'd be promoted to full deity status.

ETA: And ninja'd by baron arem heshvaun! Twice in a row--I need to type faster.

The thing that stood out to me is that the priestess of Hoder said:

Priestess of Hoder, God of Winter wrote:
The priests of the demigods vote to break the tie.

i.e. not the demigods themselves, just their, newly vampirised, priests.

I predict a lot of skirting the rules by the assembled high priest(esse)s, namely buffing/healing the combatants, as opposed to getting involved directly. I mean, it'd be weird if there was a rule against helping protect each other's bodyguards, right? :P Though I imagine the other priests, whose God(esse)s have voted Yes, will be helping Durkula.

Not sure about that--at least some of them apparently didn't think through the ramifications of their votes, and will look for any loophole to annul it.

I'm not familiar with 3.5 rules, but I'm assuming "Summon Proxy" is a spell invented for OOTS, so we don't know the exact details of the spell. But it's safe to assume that it's a high enough level spell that Durkula won't have prepared it more than once for the day. And it probably requires concentration to maintain. That means that to keep Hel present for the Godsmoot, Durkula can't take any standard actions - he has to use them all concentrating on maintaining the spell.

Hmm, well I notice that only the priests of Loki, Heimdall and Hel actually cast Summon Proxy, and likewise only the images of those gods are present. Everyone else just got hit with a zot, and they stop zotting once they think they're done with the vote.

In other words, a summon proxy isn't necessary for a god to make a vote, and the priest doesn't have to keep zotting either.

So what Roy has to do is either destroy the vampire or remove him/durkon from the room.

I think Roy is going to put up a good fight (+5 undead-bane greatsword and all), but nearly lose when the new vampire spawn show up as reinforcements.

At this point, Belkar will arrive, with the rest of the Order (notably Vaarsuius) and have Durkula taken off the field.

Specifically, V remembers the antimagic field incident. Take away Durkula's cleric magic and vampire powers, and Roy will mop the floor with him easily. And it isn't technically an attack, the same way that other posters in this thread are pointing out that the other clerics might be able to buff Roy without breaking the Godsmoot rules.

Well that was suitably epic

Left wondering whether the Representatives can buff Durkula or buff/debuff Roy. Or if the rules prevent them from interfering.

I still do not understand why Durkula needed to get to the Godsmoot with the OotS in stride. Wouldn't he have been better served with getting there on his own since he knew where it was going to take place ?

Because thar's no way we can wait that long! We haf to keep movin'!

HPoH was created very shortly before the Godsmoot, on a different continent. He wouldn't be able to make it in time to vote without a very fast means of transportation, like an airship.

Aniuś the Talewise wrote:

I still wonder why the gods have to vote via the priests, when the comic has shown the gods communicating with each other directly several times?

Is it so that the priests can bear direct witness to the gods' discussion and vote?

Because the gods do not have a neutral meeting ground—or rather they do, and this is it. Also, gods of different pantheons do not meet in person anymore, lest any debates or squabbles turn into Snarl Jr.

I'm not sure who mentioned Banjo as having some type of role in the moot, but I'm going to pretend that is my own independent thought,* and predict that Roy won't stop Durkon in time, the demi-god vote will happen, and Elan, on behalf of Banjo, will cast the tie-breaking vote.

*Unless the above is completely incorrect. In which case, I deny that I came up with it and refer you to the original poster who proposed the idea of Banjo's involvement for well-deserved mockery.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Banjo wasn't accepted into any pantheon as far as I recall... (well, except orcs but do they count anyway?). Do the demi-gods count as independent or part of various pantheons?

My guess is against Banjo interfering since this is a dramatic, rather than comedic event and a sudden interjection of Banjo would likely send the drama grinding to a halt. It would be quite awkward.

Unless Burlew could pull it off somehow, but even so I still doubt it.

And I completely forgot that Durkula made minions before coming into the room. They should be along any time now.

I was thinking that the minute I read the line "the priests of the demigods break the tie" followed by Hel's "I do seem to have a certain rapport with some of them, I must admit."

That would definitely explain the need for minions.

Which maintains what I have said, that I would give a hard coin for Rich to write an AP.

And would give 1/3 my soul for him to DM it for me.

The other two directors need the rest of your soul, first.

As for the Creed-turned-Hel vampires, can't they be dusted? Since they're clerics of Hel in this scenario, that means they've violated Godsmoot rules by being there, as only the high priest of each deity is allowed.

And in the same rules-abuse manner as Roy's attack, high priests might be able to buff/heal Roy, as that wouldn't violated any established rules of Godsmoot.

But on the subject of high priests, I am loving the smirk that Loki's high priest has.
(Also for demigods, here's hoping that Shaman Vurkle shows up, which would put the Banjoian pantheon into play.)

Now when the three directors were mentioned I recall that they didn't want the world to be destroyed... Will they make any move to that effect? Can they currently make any move that would prevent that?

I'm thinking they could take possession of V again, just long enough to deliver some information. ie Send the rest of the Order to back up Roy.

Knowing that the character wrecan is a memorial of the guy of the same name (rest in peace), I wonder if the name was actually taken from the Old English word 'to drive, punish, avenge' as I keep reading it as, or if that's a coincidence.

A lot of writers use hidden pun and references so I wouldn't be surprised.

I suspect the forthcoming battle will be spectacular and may very well lead to the permanent demise of possibly two members of the stick...

I am pretty sure that the last time it ended with Loki passing the care over Sleipnir to Odin.

People generally tended to take good care of good mounts. Until they had to eat them.

I read it again. Love how Roy realizing that Belkar was right all along helped him find his permanent solution to the problem :-))

I just noticed the width of the final panel. It's wider than the other full-page panels. Knowing that Rich formats the comic for the inevitable books, now, I can only imagine the awesomeness of turning the page and seeing the two page spread of Roy jumping over the railing screaming.

I'm thinking there's a serious circumstance bonus from knowing that the world literally depends on you winning this fight.

And I love how the gods are still talking amongst themselves, completely unaware of the fight.

I think that was Improved Iron Will. Roy had the charmed eyes, and then broke out of it. :)

I forgot that gods can't perceive the events here and thought that Hel's quip to Heimdall is sign of her being so sure that Durkula will win against Roy.

Okay, time for Belkar to run back in!
HPoH still needs to 'bring death and destruction' to the dwarven lands, so that's a mark against him being destroyed here. I'm guessing Roy and the others will knock him out of the building, nullifying his vote, but he'll escape and return as a villain later.

Anyone remembers the exact prophecy? Is that "he will bring death and destruction" or "will bring death and destruction when/if he returns home?"

We still have to see some payoff for Durkon spending all that time showing his minder some of his history. Chekhov's Flashback, or something like that.

Maybe it's time for Hilgya Firehelm to appear again?

Well, didn't he fulfill "bring death and destruction" by representing Hell? She is the goddess of both.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I believe it's:

Quote:
When Durkon next returns home, he will bring death and destruction to us all.

Though we don't see the actual prophecy, just the report of it to the high priest.

Also possible that talking in that situation, as much as Roy has tended to the prolix in similar situations, was viewed by the player as against Roy's nature (and thus calling for another saving throw).

Remember that lesson Durkon learned as a kid about not stepping into help unless asked, and then Roy teaching him the opposite with regard to their party? I'm thinking Durkula's going to mix that up, and Durkon will somehow get a shot at helping, because the vamp lets its guard down.
