To quote a friend of mine:
"A strange game - the only winning move is not to play."
I wish some folks around here realized that.
From my perspective, the ones yelling "Troll" the loudest are often calling themselves out.
See, I just think of it as trying to put out the fires that other folks seem to enjoy starting.

That is worrisome, AZ. Do you feel the need to play pacifier? Those who would light fires will continue to do so. Those who would allow themselves to get burned will continue to do so. You will only wear yourself out and accomplish little.

Otherwise, awesome folks like Patrick (just as an example) are going to post less and less because of the increasing toxicity of threads.
Edit: although not so much "pacifier" as "bury it in the backyard".
And, maybe I'm just being paranoid, but sometimes it does indeed seem to me that some folks start controversial threads just because they want to piss other folks off.
I have no doubt that some people do. I also have no doubt calling them a troll is not going to change their ways.
I think it is noble you want to make people feel welcomed here. Perhaps you should focus your efforts there instead of trying to silence the unwelcomers.
Of course, then you would be taking advice from a poodle, so…
CourtFool wrote: I have no doubt that some people do. I also have no doubt calling them a troll is not going to change their ways. It probably won't. But, then again I try to never directly post to someone and say "You're a troll".
CourtFool wrote: I think it is noble you want to make people feel welcomed here. Perhaps you should focus your efforts there instead of trying to silence the unwelcomers. I probably could, but it is kind of challenging to keep up the losing fight - makes me feel like Batman.
Hmmm....Batzombie?

Resistance is never futile. There's no such thing as the no-win scenario.
You rock on, Aberzombie.

So....I should just reprogram the system to allow the ship to be rescued?

I'd offer up an arm, or something, but I'm guessing you'd want to avoid the whole "undead thing".
