I was looking at converting a level 10 human sorcerer that I have into a wordcaster, and I just ran into a problem. The human sorcerer favored class bonus is this: Add one spell known from the sorcerer spell list. This spell must be at least one level below the highest spell level the sorcerer can cast.

So, when a human sorcerer wordcaster gets this bonus, does he add a normal spell or an effect word?

From the wording in the pdf the human sorcerer bonus seems to apply. Its about as broken or not broken as the standard version.

I would think that it would be effect words because, unlike bloodline spells, the CC bonus isn't set in stone. Still, its a good question and one I had thought about.

I didn't really think that it was 'broken' for the standard sorcerer. If it lets him get additional effect words it isn't that bad either in my opinion.

However, if it allows him to actually take normal spells that means a human sorc can effectively get the equivilent of the versitile spellcaster feat 10 times by level 20 just by using his favored class bonus. That's really powerful and lets him get around many of the drawbacks of being a Wordcaster. Just because of that I'm leaning twords saying that he should get effect words rather than spells, lol.

As its written it would seem that he would get normal spells rather than effect words. Just as if he had taken feats to grant him extra spells known.

Now they can augment their rules to make these into effect words, or expand the human favored class bonus to those.

But as word casters can have spells known (and currently bloodlines grant spells known) I think that this HAS to be the case, baring a DM house rule or additional clarification.

Well let´s wait for some qualification I guess, the Bloodline bonus spells are IMO a slightly different case, since it gives speficic bonus spells rather than just a bonus spell of a low level - on the other hand the the pdf mentions the table so it could go either way.

Well I would say that the entire system leans towards extra words for the human sorcerer favored class bonus... Wizards get 4+int mod words at first level, Specialist Wizards get 1 bonus school appropriate slot but it is a word spell slot.

IIRC the 4+ is a typo it should be 3+.

the problem with having to take words is there is so little words to choose from in the playtest. A 10 level sorcerer knows 9 0lv spells, 13 with the human bonus spells but there is only 8 words of that level. At 13 lv a human would with the bonus know 5 5Th lv spells, but there is only 4 5Th Lv words.

The feats expanded arcana can lets a spellcaster choose 2 spells at lest 1 Lv lower then he can cast. Versatile wordcaster lets a wordcaster cast 2 spells 1 lv lower than he can cast. Extra word lets a wordcaster take 2 words if both are at lest 1 lv lower the he can cast.

Comparing it to those feats and with the small selection of words I can see treating it like versatile wordcaster so your wordcaster gets the extra spells
