Magus and Words of Power Sadness

Round 1: Magus

I had really hoped to be able to use these two things together but I'm pretty disappointed in the system. Although it has the capability to make nearly all the words into touches and rays almost all have saves, too.

At this point it also has an insufficient number of buffs to make a Magus who is a buff specialist.

Sad times.

It's a bit early to say that. Only a small part of the words of power system has been shown.

It's early for the buffing part. I'll admit that. That's why I said "at this point." But I think it's pretty clear that they don't, at this point, intend to make all spells that are rays or touch attacks no save.

I would encourage you to shoot yourself over this, don't kill yourself though. just harm yourself in some permanent way.

That's a good idea. Can you call 911 for me in case I pass out?

Seriously though, it's an interesting system that simply might not be useful for the Magus without some changes. This is not impossible. I posted an idea for Arcana which would allow a Magus to use the Ray or Touch variety of Target words in conjunction with any of the Energy words and eliminate the save roll There would be Lesser, normal, and Greater Arcana to cover all 6 levels of spells.

Mantis had the idea of making a Magus only Target word that allowed no save.

Any of these would go a long way to making Words of Power viable for the Magus. Otherwise, I think we'll just be doing a lot of buffs, Magic Missile, and Scorching Ray plus whatever useful spells we get out of Ultimate Magic.

NO.

But you should feel good about the fact that you made me laugh in response; and that, this is the play test for some the words, i have no doubt that they will include the magus as a class with access. read jason's post, he is trying to get a good judge on damage with these effects. he's sure he has everything else balanced out well. the sorcerer/wizard is supposed to be the damaging through spells classes.

Yeah, I saw Jason's post on that subject. It's just the save thing that concerns me. I'm not terribly excited about casting nothing but Magic Missile and Scorching Ray for offense.
