Advice?

Serpent's Skull

So my gaming group is starting this AP and it will be 3 of us(GM and 2 players running 2 characters each). The other player is bringing a Paladin and a Wizard of somekind (I usually run the casters as most everyone else we game with like the melee types, this will be his first wizard) and I am bringing a Ranger(Treantmonk's switch hitter and using the skirmishing kit with prefered enemy human) and either a oracle of life or a witch, the question is which should I bring or any other suggestions would be great. Please no spoilers though.

i would recommend rogue, alchemist, or another fighter type, i only have first two adventures, but a rogue is quite useful (more so in second then first), its also set in a jungle environment so you know its going to be rife with disease (especially if your gm is particularly harsh). i would also recommend getting heart of the jungle campaign guide as that has many hazards and diseases that should prove helpful (sargava, lost colony players guide is also helpful but not nearly as much as h.o.t.j.). have fun :)

I'd check with your DM before reading Heart of the Jungle, campaign guides are for DM's as the companions are for designed for players. Some DM's might be using HotJ information

This AP requires the "extra roles" moreso than previous APs. You don't need the "bread and butter" as much.

Particularly,

You need someone to cure disease, remove curses, and otherwise get you back on your feet from bad stuff.

You also really need a Rogue or someone similarly skillful.

I think your friend bringing Wizard might be a mistake. You bringing a Witch alongside the Wizard would definately be a mistake. There are Bard varients that can get you pretty close the feel of a Witch. Alternatively, Druid would be a great bet.

So we need a rogue more then a wizard so far, and a more reliable healer then a paladin, so I am now down to rogue, bard or the oracle (avoiding cleric and druid).

Just to be clear: when I say "healer" I do not mean "someone that restores the HPs." There are plenty of healing potions to go around and... you said no spoilers, but trust me, lack of "getting the HP" isn't a huge problem. It's all the other stuff that you need to care about.

As far as the skillful character, you could build a Ranger to fufill that niche. You'll have to deviate from Treatmonk's guide somewhat, and otherwise take some noncombat feats, etc, but then that frees up an entire character "slot" that you can do something else with.

Other options for that role include Alchemist and Bard, if you build them right. (Rogue still being the easiest.)

Yeah I am leaning more towards bard at this point, we have a paladin for various diseases and whatnot, I think there is a trait that lets you find traps as a rogue as I recall as well.

Archivist Bard can deal with magical traps. You'll just need to grab a trait that gives you Disable Device as a class skill. That and a focus on knowledge will certainly come in handy at times.

oh yeah, in the immortal words of stan smith before shooting reagan in "greatest christmas story never" "wow!, thanks, that would've been bad" ( after the angel of christmas past said to him "now remember, all you have to do is wing him". voiced by lisa kudrow i believe).

thanks!

Yeah I dont want to ruin anything thats why I asked for no spoilers. We are currently playing Legacy of Fire I think and we are getting our butts handed to us like every game, so I was hoping for more efficiency and PC consistancy, so mostly a survivable party.

have u ever though of having a cleric of trickery , so without going rogue have a roguey type cleric?

I had one in the carrion king AP, he was a blast!
you should try it.

Alright reload! We found more players and we are all doing 1 pc now, as it stands we have a human paladin, a rogue type(time theif? 3pp somewhere the gm approved), another player is either doing a 2 weapon fighter or a cleric, 1 more player who is not new to RPGs but to pathfinder and I have no idea what he will play, as for myself I was thinking a caster of somekind since it seems we lack that at
this time, depending on if we need more healing or less on what I'll make. If I choose cleric I can be of a ideal (meaning I can take any 2 domains I want since I'm always the healer) any help at all?
