Currently we have a group of 4 characters who are looking for a new DM. Our past DM had to resign due to time constraints. Dialogue and roleplaying have been great and we wish to continue on. Our group has been through the first encounter and is currently ready to tackle the second encounter. We have a Paladin of Erastil, a cleric of Erastil, a witch and a bard. A ranger was also going to accompany us but has since withdrawn. Here are the links to the OOC discussion thread and the campaign thread .
If there is any DM willing to run the Kingmaker AP please consider this group. We are willing to accomodate different rulings and recreate our characters if necessary.

I am considering your blight but since I have never conducted a PBP game I wish know more details. Do you play during a designated time or are the posts staggered over a longer period? If do have a particular time that you play when is it and for how long?
Gorguk |
The posts are staggered throughout the day. We had a requirement of at least 1 post per day that we all follow. I know for combat encounters we try to post more often if available but that does not always happen. We didn't want to rush anyone by requiring more posts per day. This way, if the DM needs more time to get the information out as well, he/she isn't rushed. Any other questions feel free to ask and we will answer them for you. Thanks for considering us to DM.

I have some experience running PbP, and I've read the threads you linked. I like your group, but there are a couple of obstacles.
1). I don't actually own the Kingmaker AP. I've been toying with the idea of purchasing it, so this may be the excuse I needed.
2). I wouldn't necessarily be able to start running it right away. I would need time to read the AP, and combine it with your progress thus far. Also, it sounds like my GM style is a little different than Papa's, since I'm no good with visual details and am unlikely to be able to provide maps and the like. I tend to be more story and RP focused to compensate.
I'll keep an eye on this thread.
Gorguk |
If it matters to those who are considering DMing this AP, character creation was based off of:
core rulebook and APG only
20 pt buy, no ability under 8
2 traits, 1 must be campaign
max gold with 1 bonus item (MW weapon, wand cure light w/ 20 charges, or equivalent)
If own a horse and are trained in Handle Animal, horse is combat trained.
If there is something you would want changed, just let us know and we will comply to the new DM's wishes.
Thanks again to all of you potential DM's out there considering us.
Silversand79 |
Well you might be able to rule me out after I say this.
I am looking for a little bit more commitment then 1 post a day requirement.
I would like run a session or 2 during the week where all players are online for hour or two to quickly move through parts of the game where attention is needed, combat and major NPC negotiations. The times between these sessions the would answer individual player questions and comments, run minor NPC engagements and give detailed descriptions of explored areas.

I'd be prepared to step in if other folks decide it's not for them.
I'd have to drop out of the KM game I'm playing but I prefer DMing to playing so that's not a problem and the AP books are sitting waiting to be read!
I'll keep an eye on the thread...
Normally I would never ask someone to give up a game that they are in. That being said, if you have more fun being the DM then I would be grateful to have you DM for us.
@ Silversand79: I thank you for your offer, but the time restraints don't work for me at aleast. Thanks again for looking though.

Megan, you've already stepped in to run a game I'm in that lost it's DM. If you really want to run this, I'll step aside for you, but I'd rather you keep playing.
I'll buy the modules and take you guys on, if you'll have me. I will probably want to recruit one more player. I might just give the existing characters bonuses instead; I don't handle large groups very well.
My style of GM'ing is that the dice are guidelines and subservient to the story. You'll never lose a character solely to bad luck. (Though bad luck can land you in some places you really didn't want to go, and bad luck + bad choices can still kill you).
I also tend to roll dice less often than other GM's I've seen. I am willing to modify my style a bit to accommodate player tastes; if any of you really like rolling dice, I'll make sure you get plenty of opportunity.
But outside combat I tend not to roll, preferring to look at your skill ranks or description of the action instead. Skilled writers definitely have an advantage in my PbP games.
If my style doesn't mesh with yours, that's fine; my feelings won't get hurt. I also won't be able to resume the game right away. But I will run it, if you're interested.

Silversand, I like Gorguk could accommodate that kind of schedule. Thank you for the offer though.
Megan and Torolf, I would appreciate it if either one of you could pick this up and run it for us. Every DM/GM is different and so I am not adverse to trying a new style of play.
Torolf, I wouldn't be adverse to trying to play using fewer die roles outside of combat. You just may want to let us know when you want us to make checks for the first little bit so that we can get a feel for when you want rolls and when you don't.
And as for relying more on writing style and description, I would certainly give it a try. I've found that one of the benefits of pbp for me is that it is easier for me to role play, as opposed to when I'm sitting around a table with a group of players.

Talk to the GM of the KM PBP you're playing in. If they're cool with you playing and running KM, then don't give up your playing.
I'm playing in a KM pbp and running my own KM pbp. My GM knows and is cool with it.

Well, I have to confess that I have read the first part of the Kingmaker AP on account of it was entered in the ENnies whilst I was a judge. I'm just ignoring the information in the game I'm playing, and as the character is a quiet cleric of Sarenrae who isn't interested in combat but would rather be cooking the party's dinner I can stay out of tactical discussions (the other players do it to death anyway!) easily.
I'd be quite happy to take you good folks on, if you want.

Our current KM PBP on these boards was saved this exact same way!
The people on this board ARE awesome!
Cheers
Agreed. The Legacy of Fire game I'm participating in was revived in this manner as well.
Actually, come to think of it we didn't look for a new GM. Our new GM found us, and asked if we would be OK with starting the game up again. How's that for awesome?

Whoa! Thats even more amazing!
Hopefully another LoF GM fronts up eventually, I'm trying to pimp my Oracle into a group :p (Read - Offer a group a unique and interesting roleplay opportunity!)Megan Robertson |
:)
Every time I stick my nose over the parapet there are folks looking for a DM.
It's just as well I prefer to DM, I am now running TWO Legacies of Fire, a Council of Thieves, a Curse of the Crimson Throne and a Second Darkness as well as this game. The CotCT one was, like this one, abandoned mid-game by its original DM, and the second LoF one lost their DM mid-startup.
I must be mad! But I'm happy :)
