Oracle of Calistria - Passion Mystery

Homebrew and House Rules

51 to 100 of 108 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

For Rake, we could use Pain and Pleasure... if you want to make it as a "masochist" type.
I see Champion of Love more as a paladin than an oracle! Maybe a passion-themed oath for a paladin of Shelyn? Or an order of gallant cavaliers vowed to courtly love? We could create a LOT of different class options... maybe an entire Book of Love for Pathfinder!
Ok, the Muse's revised (final) version:

Muse
A muse encourages acts of creativity and passion in the followers of her god- and sometimes, acts of destruction too.

Class Skills: A muse adds Perception, Perform and Use Magic Device to her list of class skills. These replace the additional class skills from her mystery.

Bonus Spells: These bonus spells replace the oracle’s mystery bonus spells at these levels: gallant inspiration (4th), mass suggestion (14th).

Revelations: A muse must take the following revelation at 1st level.

Inspiring Heat (Su): Once per day, with a touch, you may bestow a +4 bonus to a target's will saves, craft skill, and perform skill. You retain a link to the target as if you had cast status on the target. The target of the inspiration receives these benefits for 1 min per oracle level. A barbarian (or character under the effects of Rage) under the effect of this inspiration receives 2 additional rounds of rage- except for a Wild Rager, who receives a +4 bonus on saves to end his confused state. A bard (or character that makes magical performances) receives 2 additional rounds of performance. At 7th and 14th level, you can use this ability one additional time per day.

Recommended Mysteries: Life, Lore, Passion.

That looks great to me. However, Pathfinder database hasn't actually posted my first submission yet. I think it might be better to submit these alternative archetypes as a set. But, unless anyone else chimes in, I think I'm ready to say this one's done.

Bardess wrote:

Um, a Rake isn't BDSM (although we could do an archetype for that too). A Rake is a seducer - Don Juan, Cleopatra Ptolemy, Giacomo Casanova... Captain Jack Harkness. A master of seduction, temptation, and manipulation.

The regular Passion mystery can already accomplish this somewhat, but particularly for Calistria (who has a vengeance focus) something more directly focused on hostile seduction (ie, seducing and manipulating enemies) seems appropriate.

The Rake can be fun-loving (like Jack) and good aligned, but more often than the regular Passion Oracle, the Rake is likely to be darker - using his or her charms to control and manipulate. Basically, unlike the normal Oracle of Passion, a Rake is focused almost entirely on Lust (rather than being balanced between Love and Lust). This can be good-hearted or darker, but either way it moves away from the more pleasant love stuff towards the more controlling lust stuff.

And, while certainly not required, I'm sure a lot of people (both PCs and DMs) will want to use this for darker, more neutral or evil aligned characters. This might also work for oracles of Norgorber (for stealing secrets) or oracles who are chosen by Belial (the Archdevil), Socothbenoth (the Demon Lord), the Green Mother (of the Eldest), or Arshea (the Empyreal Lord) - groups who are more about the power of lust than the blessings of love.

Bardess wrote:

Huh. Well, we could do both - an oracle archetype to turn Battle, Flame, or Heavens (the more combat focused mysteries) into a protector of love. And then make other archetype modifications for the other classes (an Order for Cavalier, and an archetype for Paladin).

As for the Oracle Champion of Love - I will admit, I was picturing Sailor V (ie, Sailor Venus, champion of love and justice), who I once played (as an Oracle of Metal with Exotic Weapon Pro: Spiked Chain).

Maybe we could call them...

Champions of Love:
Chosen of Love (the Oracle)
Warrior of Love (the Paladin)
Order of the String (the Cavalier)
(string because of hand-fasting, and also because of the 'red string of fate' that supposedly binds two people in love... it was the only love noun I could think of other than "Order of the Heart" which sounds like a group from Kingdom Hearts....)

Bardess wrote:

... maybe we should contact Gwendolyn F.M. Kestrel? She's one of the 3.5 authors who came over to do Pathfinder Campaign Setting - and the author of the 3.5 "Book of Erotic Fantasy" - which is where I happened to get the name "Rake" from in the first place. :P I am 90% sure that she is one of the main authors behind Calistria in the first place.

She is one of my very favorite game designers, if you couldn't tell from my gushing above. ^^;;

I once converted Sailor Venus as:

Sailor Venus = Oracle of Metal/Inquisitor (Inprisonment inquisition)

XDDD

"Order of the Ring", what do you think? Heh heh... if we decide to do something bold and crazy, let's do it all along with style!!! You are a Calistrian type, while I am a Shelinite, so together we make a perfect "objective" point of view on love!

Bardess wrote:

I'm amused that we both independently saw the Metal mystery and said "Yup, Sailor V."

Did you give her Lance of Purity as "Crescent Beam" too?

And did you stat up Sailor Mercury as an Oracle of Waves?

Bardess wrote:

Still focused on marriage, which I wasn't thrilled with, but it does sound better than Order of the String.

Although, when I read "Order of the Ring" the first thing that comes to mind is The One Ring, not marriage. The "Order of the Ring" sounds kind of like what the Ring Wraiths must call themselves.

Any other symbols of love we can make the order name? I'd suggest Order of the Rose - but then it just sounds like the Knights of the Rose from Dragonlance.

Bardess wrote:

Huh. I hadn't thought of it that way, but I can sort of see it.

Also, still waiting on Pathfinder Database to actually post the Passion Mystery. There's a note in their FAQ that documents that require "editing" take more time, but I don't recall any spelling or grammar errors being left in that text (I am pretty careful about such things), so I can't imagine what is taking them so long.

Actually... I made nearly ALL the Sailors as oracles! (Although Sailor Mercury is more the wizard type, and Sailor Mars is more the witch type... but with a bit of multiclassing...) I found the Heavens Mystery perfect for Sailor Moon!
So a "Bishojo Senshi" oracle archetype, huh?! Let's make it!

I fear "Order of the Rose" is taken... it's in SGG's "Cavalier Orders", it's an order of cavaliers vowed to good. You're right, "Ring" sounds so Tolkienian... but maybe we can play upon this...
And then! A Tantric Disciple monk, a Dominator wizard, a Seductress rogue/Kunoichi ninja, a Beautiful Witch... my mind's bristling on possibilities! A Lord of Love cleric, a Love Scourge inquisitor, a Gallant bard, a Nymph Devotee summoner...

What a Bishojo Senshi (Lovely Warrior) should have:
-An Arcane Bond! Rite Publishing created one such revelation for their Arcana Mystery in "Secrets of the Oracle", all we have to do is copy/paste it. Maybe at higher levels the familiar acquires some template like Fey Creature...
-A kind of "Makeup" revelation (nobody can recognize me when I'm in battle)
-A kind of "Mantle of Love", but that's a fairly common revelation, almost all mysteries have it in a form or another
-An "instant atonement" revelation (demon! surrender my beauty and convert or be destroyed!)

Alzrius created a Clumsy curse just for THIS oracle build... my suggestion!
Also... a Belaborment curse? She must declare loud and long why she will punish you, so you have all the time to prepare and attack first... but then she grabs her Holy Staff of Brilliant Light and kicks your butt! XD

Just popping in to say I'm really impressed by the creativity and inspiration here! If you guys get this all formalised a link to wherever it is would be appreciated...

I've run a couple of magic-girl shoujo inspired games. In one, I had several sailor senshi make cameos (as bad-guys - live-action style Evil Mercury was tons of fun). In a more recent one, I ran a modern game based (in part) on the Sailor V manga (so a bit darker, and more corporate-focused enemies). That was the game with Oracle-of-Metal Sailor V, and Sailor Galaxia as a Paladin (pre-fall Galaxia - I was planning on a heel-turn).

Weird. The Dominator in the Book of Erotic Fantasy (by Gwen Kestrel) is a Wizard (or lawful Cleric) PrC - so basically the same idea you just had.

Also, their Rake PrC is basically a seductress rogue.

Not that either of those facts are a problem - one of the things I love about Pathfinder is that they have taken a lot of 3.5 PrCs and converted them into archetypes.

As for Beautiful Witch, we wouldn't need an archetype for that, just some additional Hexes and Patron Themes. Probably the same for the seductress Rogue/Ninja with talents/tricks (since Rogues and Ninjas can effectively swap talents at this point).

Love Scourge Inquisitor... oh, that sounds like a wonderful idea for an Inquisitor of Calistria, taking vengeance on those who have scorned love. Hell hath no fury like a Love Scourge Inquisitor.

Gallant Bard... isn't that all bards? :P

And Nymph summoner - they have the Fey Eidolon already in Ultimate Magic. Not sure exactly what you had in mind with that one.

And, just to throw some more wood on the fire... here are a couple of the better PrC concepts from the BoEF that we might mess with/turn into archetypes or extra abilities:

Kundala - a martial artist who specializes in body manipulation (on herself) (possibly that sexy monk you were thinking about)

Frenzied Diciple - a Bachae themed Barbarian

... there are a couple of others, but we've already covered them (the Sacred Prostitute being wrapped into the Muse already completed, and the Rake being split between the Rake Oracle idea and the seducer Rogue/Ninja concept above. And, of course, the Dominator - which you already came up with independently.

Oh, while I'm thinking about it... I also have my (pre update) conversion of "Sister of Rapture" class (from the book of the same name) into an Oracle mystery sitting around here somewhere. Are you familiar with the 3.5 Sister of Rapture book?

Thanks!

Um, I keep checking Pathfinder Database to see if they've posted the final version... and it keeps not showing up.

I get that it was a holiday weekend, but damn.

If a week passes and no class appears, I may resubmit it...

**glances around**

Unless anyone reading this thread happens to work there and wants to help speed things along... just saying....

I know Sisters of Rapture. But doesn't the Passion Mystery cover for it, as long as the oracle's involved?
And yeah! a Barbarian Fertility Totem is definitely in order! I forgot to mention it!
We have plenty of ideas here. Let's realize one at a time... I'll start thinking to some revelations for our Lovely Champion.

Here:

Lovely Champion
Some oracles are called to avenge great wrongs at personal risk, never revealing their true identity to the ones they help.

Alignment: Any good.

Class Skills: A lovely champion adds Bluff, Intimidate and Use Magic Device to her list of class skills. These replace the additional class skills from her mystery.

Bonus Spells: These bonus spells replace the oracle’s mystery bonus spells at these levels: light lance (4th), aura of the unremarkable (6th), ancestral gift (any one simple, martial or exotic weapon) (8th), atonement (10th), greater teleport (14th).

Revelations: A lovely champion may select the following revelations in place of a mystery revelation.

Arcane Bond (Su): You gain an arcane bond, as a wizard equal to your oracle level. Your oracle levels stack with any wizard levels you possess when determining the powers of your bonded object or familiar. This ability does not allow you to have both a bonded object and a familiar. If you choose a familiar, at 11th level your familiar gains the half-celestial or fey template (your choice).

Secret Identity (Su): Once per day, as a standard action, you can become unrecognizable. People who see you while under this ability's effect won't recognize you if they already met you or when they meet you later. If they met you again under this ability's effect, they will recognize your "secret identity" from the previous time. If you voluntarily reveal your secret to someone, that person will be able to recognize you in your secret identity. The effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to your oracle level, but you can end it prematurely with a standard action. At 7th and 14th level, you can use this ability one additional time per day.

Repent or Die (Su): Once per day, you can, as a free action, attempt a Diplomacy or Intimidate check on a foe before your attack in a round. If you succeed, the target is compelled to surrender to you, as if affected by a suggestion spell (CL = your oracle level) to lay down arms and give up the fight. An enemy that succumbs to this ability remains docile until you or one of your allies injure it, at which point the compulsion to surrender immediately ends and the enemy is free to make his own choices again. If the enemy resists to the intimidate or diplomacy attempt, your attack inflicts double damage to it. You must be at least 11th level before selecting this revelation.

Recommended Mysteries: fire, heavens, lore, metal, nature, passion, stone, time, waves, wood.

...And a Love Potionist alchemist? What about it? ^-^

That looks... really good. It is actually disturbing how well that works. ^^;;

Congrats - you have officially turned Sailor Senshi into an Oracle archetype, and done so such that only people who are really paying attention will get it.

As for the Sister of Rapture thing, I converted the class features (from the SoR class) into revelations. While, in many ways it is very similar to the Passion mystery, it is a little more focused on certain goals. I'll post it here (it's a bit rough yet, I will warn you - when they updated SoR to Pathfinder, it felt a little redundant, so I haven't worked on it since. Still, maybe we can polish it up and do something with it).

Rapture (Sister of) Mystery:

Class Skills: An oracle with the love mystery adds Bluff, Disguise, Knowledge (arcana), and Perform to her list of class skills.

Bonus Spells: Cause Orgasm (2nd), Crystal Balls (4th), Disarming Smile (6th), Eyes of Green (8th), Striptease (10th), Lovesickness (12th), Sex Change (14th), Orgiastic Frenzy (16th), Heartbreaker (18). * All these spells are from the Sisters of Rapture book. See page 23 for details.

Revelations: An oracle with the love mystery can choose from any of the following revelations.

Blessing of the Goddess (Su): You gain one of the following abilities, based on your specific goddess.
Aphrodite: Powerful charms: When you cast a charm spell on an actively hostile target, it only recieves a +2 to its save rather than a +5. You also recieve a +2 bonus on Cha checks to convince a charmed target to perform tasks for you.
Isis: Spell Resistance (immediate action, 1 rnd per oracle level, SR = 10 + 1 / oracle level)
Hathor: Grant a reroll with a touch (as the Luck Domain, including times per day)
Freya: Rage (as a barbarian, for a number of rnds/day equal to 4 + Cha mod +1 per oracle level)

Charming Glance (Su): A gaze attack that functions as a Charm Person spell. At 11th level, this ability instead functions as a charm monster spell. Usable 3+cha per day.

Defend Sister (Ex): When combat begins, you may select an ally to designate as one you are protecting. So long as this ally is within 5ft of you, you may, as an immediate action, choose to switch places with that ally. Any attacks or spells directed at them instead target you. You may declare this after you know the nature of the attack, but before the results are determined.

Distracting Beauty (Su): You gain a sacred bonus to AC equal to her Charisma modifier. This bonus is divinely granted, thus working even against creatures that would not normally be sexually attracted to humanoid females (including creatures immune to mind-affecting). This bonus is avaliable only if the oracle is nude or scantily clad, so wearing any armor or overly concealing clothing negates the bonus.

Divine Health (Ex): You are immune to all diseases, except magical diseases. At 11th level, you are also immune to magical diseases.

Domain of the Goddess (Su): Choose one domain granted by your goddess. In addition to the mystery spells, you also gain the spells from this domain as spells known. You gain the domain's granted powers as normal.

Favored Enemy: Misoginist (Ex): as the ranger class feature, except it functions only on those who actively hate, harm, or abuse women. Simply fighting a woman doesn't count as abuse, only targets that specifically and intentionally seek to harm women count as misoginists. This bonus begins as +2, and increases to +4 at 14th level. You must be at least 7th level or higher before taking take this revelation.

Kiss of Protection (Su): With a touch, grant a target (or yourself) a resistance bonus on the target's next saving throw equal to 1/2 your oracle level (if not used, the bonus lasts for 1 minute per level. Can be used 3 + cha times per day.

Motherhood (Ex): This ability functions as the Timeless Body monk class feature. At 14th level you also gain Leadership as a bonus feat. You must be 11th level or higher before taking this revelation.

Patron's Blessing (Su): Once per day, grant a +1 bonus to the spell DCs of all casters within 30ft for 1 rnd per oracle level. At 11th level, this bonus increases to +2. This ability is usable twice per day at 7th level and thrice per day at 14th level.

Vampiric Kiss (Su): As the Vampiric Touch spell (see similar Oracle ability). You must be 7th level or higher before taking this revelation.

Final Revelation: Kiss of Life and Death (Su): Upon reaching 20th level, once per day you may deliver a melee touch attack that acts as either a Resurrection spell or Destruction spell. Neither requires material components, and both are delivered as a standard action.

^///^ (Thanks Zel) This could be reworked in an inquisition ad hoc too (Sentai inquisition? XDDD)
I'm wondering if I should open it to neutrals too? Sailor Uranus/Neptune/Pluto are most definitely LN, more concerned with duty than saving people...
Also: half-celestial or fey creature wouldn't be too much for a familiar, even at 11th level? Maybe with a Greater Familiar homebrewed feat?...
Meanwhile, I reworked a little the third revelation and archetype name. Here's the revised version:

Beautiful Champion
Some oracles are called to avenge great wrongs at personal risk, never revealing their true identity to the ones they help.

Alignment: Any good.

Class Skills: A beautiful champion adds Bluff, Intimidate and Use Magic Device to her list of class skills.

Revelations: A beautiful champion may select the following revelations in place of a mystery revelation.

Arcane Bond (Su): You gain an arcane bond, as a wizard equal to your oracle level. Your oracle levels stack with any wizard levels you possess when determining the powers of your bonded object or familiar. This ability does not allow you to have both a bonded object and a familiar. If you choose a familiar, at 11th level your familiar gains the half-celestial or fey creature template (your choice).

Secret Identity (Su): Once per day, as a standard action, you can become unrecognizable. People who see you while under this ability's effect won't recognize you if they already met you or when they meet you later. If they met you again under this ability's effect, they will recognize your "secret identity" from the previous time. The effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to your oracle level, but you can end it prematurely with a standard action. At 7th and 14th level, you can use this ability one additional time per day.

Repent or Die (Su): Once per day, when you score a critical hit against an enemy, you can, as a free action, attempt a Diplomacy or Intimidate check. If the enemy resists to the intimidate or diplomacy attempt, the critical hit is automatically confirmed. You must be at least 11th level before selecting this revelation.

Recommended Mysteries: fire, heavens, lore, metal, nature, passion, stone, time, waves, wood.

And this is the Rake (this was very easy to make):

Rake
Oracles are seducing by their nature itself. Some are more playful and terrible than others.

Class Skills: A rake adds Bluff, Disable Device, and Escape Artist to her list of class skills. These replace the additional class skills from her mystery.

Bonus Spells: These bonus spells replace the oracle’s mystery bonus spells at these levels: lesser geas-quest (8th), dominate person (10th), geas-quest (12th), dominate monster (18th).

Revelations: A rake must take the following revelations at the listed levels.

Beauty Smiles (Su): As the passion mystery revelation. You must take this revelation at 1st level.

Terrible Beauty (Su): As the passion mystery revelation. You must take this revelation at 7th level.

Recommended Mysteries: bones, dark tapestry, juju, passion.

What would we do now? Cavaliers? Paladins? Monks? It's your turn, Zel! ^^

Just some ideas:

Possible orders for cavaliers of courtly love:
Order of the Ring (already said)
Order of the Dove (a little "un-chivalric", maybe)
Order of the Arrow
Order of the Flame

The Oath of Love is good for paladins of Shelyn (obviously) and maybe Erastil too. Let's take the Oath of Chastity and reverse everything. XDDD ...Does Calistria have Anti-Paladins?

The Lord of Love cleric should be inspired to the Lord of Undead and Merciful Healer archetype...

...while the Love Scourge inquisitor should have all the mastery feats with the whip as bonus feats- and of course, the Charm domain or one of its subdomains...

Busy weekend - will have a proper reply soonish.

As for the Paladin Oaths - what does the Oath of Love entail? Being devoted to a lover, or defending those in love?

What about something (Paladin oath?) that deals with defending star-crossed, forbidden, or taboo lovers?

All those things in one.

Oath of Love
Code of Conduct: Defend true love against fate and circumstances. Be faithful to your own true love in all occasions. Punish unfaithful lovers, rapers, love stealers, and those who obstacle true love.

Bardess wrote:

They're pretty self-less - I'd say they're Lawful Good rather than Neutral Good (which is where most of the Inner Senshi fall).

Or, you could make an argument for the Outers being Chaotic Good - the Ends justify the Means.

Bardess wrote:
Also: half-celestial or fey creature wouldn't be too much for a familiar, even at 11th level?

**shrug** Doesn't bother me. Familiars don't have enough hit dice to really benefit from those templates to a great degree. Now, if we were talking a druid animal companion, then yeah, that would be overpowered, but for a familiar, naw.

Also, most Senshi are going to take the bonded object. Talismans kick ass.

Huh. Might want to note that the target surrenders INSTEAD of taking damage. As written, it sounds like the target takes the damage from the crit, then surrenders. If they pass, then the crit auto-confirms, I assume that this ability activates just before the damage, and prevents it - ie, the Senshi pauses mid-attack to take the surrender and, if refused, finishes the attack.

Anyway, on the Rake...

Bardess wrote:

My issue with that is that it doesn't offer anything unique for the Passion mystery - just things that the Passion Oracle could have taken anyway.

As with Muse, I'd like to see a unique Revelation. Something to do with Manipulation. Like... hmm...

Idea 1) The Rake treats anyone under the influence of her charm spells as if they were Helpful rather than Friendly. When making a Charisma check to force a creature to act against it's nature, the Rake may add half her Oracle class level (rounded down) to the check.

Idea 2) The Rake can Fascinate as a Bard of her level. She acts as if she has one round of Bardic Music per level, plus an additional round for every point of Charisma modifier she possesses. She qualifies for feats that modify Bardic Music, but may only use these rounds on the Fascinate Bardic Performance. If she also has levels of Bard, these levels stack for the purpose of Fascinate, but the rounds granted by her Oracle class ONLY apply to Fascinate - they are not part of her normal Bardic Music rounds per day. At 11th level, the Rake gains Suggestion as the Bardic Music Ability of the same name, with all the usual restrictions.

Idea 3) The Rake gains the ability to fool alignment detection magic. For a number of minutes per day equal to her Oracle level, she can make one of her alignments register as Neutral rather than what it normally would be. At 11th level, she can affect both of her alignment axis in this fashion, making herself register as True Neutral (or she may choose to only affect one, as per her desire).

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

On Cavalier Orders... um, I've never actually played a Cavalier, so I'm not very up on comparative power levels for that class. You might want to see if we can't shake up someone who knows that class better.

If you want to talk Arcane or Divine classes (pretty much any spell-caster), I'm good to go - heavy fighter types are something I'm not nearly as good at.

Now, I can still look at any ideas you come up with on those concepts. I just won't be good at coming up with mechanics myself on non-spell-casters. Or at judging what is over or under powered.

Also...

They still haven't posted Passion Mystery on Pathfinder Database. I'm starting to get ticked off. -_-

Outer Senshi LG- MMh. I don't know.
Familiars- You forget that a familiar uses the MASTER's HD for all HD-related effects! XD
Beautiful Champion- Good point! Let's introduce it.

Repent or Die (Su): Once per day, when you score a critical hit against an enemy, you can, as a free action, attempt a Diplomacy or Intimidate check. If you succeed, the target suffers no damage and is compelled to surrender to you, as if affected by a suggestion spell (CL = your oracle level) to lay down arms and give up the fight. An enemy that succumbs to this ability remains docile until you or one of your allies injure it, at which point the compulsion to surrender immediately ends and the enemy is free to make his own choices again. If the enemy resists to the intimidate or diplomacy attempt, the critical hit is automatically confirmed. You must be at least 11th level before selecting this revelation.

Rake- There are other oracle archetypes taking revelations from one mystery only (see the Stargazer), but I quite like your idea 2. Let's write it.
Cavaliers- Ok, you do the divine and arcane types and I do the fighter types. Just tell me what name you like most for our courtly love order.
And for Pathfinder Database...
Well, if they don't post it, let's make a Google Doc ourselves with all our material, or wait for the next Wayfinder... or, let's contact a publisher!

Well, to be fair, Pathfinder Database hasn't added ANYTHING at all since I submitted it. So it's not like they're just ignoring me - they appear to be ignoring everyone.

That or I'm the only one who's posted....

As for finding a publisher... that is actually rather tempting.

Any ideas where to start?

Oh, and FYI - one of (several) reasons why my replies have been a tad slow - I was just given Final Fantasy 13-2 and have been playing it... well, a lot since then.

Okay- don't worry, I'll wait to see your version of the Rake.
And, I just noted that in the final revelation you didn't put the phrase "all age penalties are removed". I quite liked the idea of eternal beauty and youth for this oracle. ^-^

MYSTERIES

Mystery of the Flesh

Deities: Calistria, Cayden Cailean, Lamashtu, Peacock Spirit, Shelyn

Class Skills: An oracle with the flesh mystery adds Acrobatics, Bluff, Escape Artist, Intimidate, and Perform to her list of class skills.

Bonus Spells: charm person (2nd), enthrall (4th), suggestion (6th), charm person (8th), dominate person (10th), fire seeds (12th), fire storm (14th), incendiary cloud (16th), dominate monster (18th).

Revelations:

An oracle with the flesh mystery can choose from any of the following revelations.

Armor of Flesh (Su): You can conjure armor made of flesh that grants you a +4 armor bonus. At 7th level, and every four levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +2. At 13th level, this armor grants you Damage Reduction 5/piercing. You can use this armor for 1 hour per day per oracle level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be spent in 1-hour increments.

Beguile (Su): You can make a target character fall in love with you. You can do this once per day; at 11th level, you can do this twice a day. At 15th level, you can do this three times per day. The target is allowed a Will Save with a DC of 10 + ½ your oracle class level + your Charisma modifier. If the target fails the Will Saving Throw, he becomes hopelessly in love with the you. The duration of this effect is a number of hours equal to 1d20 + your character level + your Charisma modifier. The target character has an attitude of Helpful towards you. In addition, you can force the target character to follow your commands by succeeding at an opposed Charisma check; you add half your oracle level to this check as well. When the duration elapses, the character falls out of love with you. When this happens make a DC 30 Charisma check. If you succeed, the character’s attitude remains helpful. For every 5 points you fail the check by, their attitude towards worsens by 1 category. You can have a number of characters in love with you at one equal to your Charisma modifier. You must be at least 7th level to select this revelation.

Blissful Night (Su): Anyone who spends the night with you recovers an additional number of hit points equal to your Charisma modifier multiplied by their hit dice. You can affect a number of characters in this way equal to your Charisma modifier.

Enduring Elements (Ex): You are protected with a constant endure elements effect. At 5th level, you gain immunity to disease. At 10th level, you gain cold and fire resistance 5. At 15th level, you gain immunity to poison.

Gentle Caress (Su): You can make a melee touch attack that fills the target creature with pleasure. It is dazed for 1 round unless it makes a Fortitude save with a DC of 10 + ½ your oracle level + your Charisma modifier, in which case it is staggered for 1 round. At 11th level, a creature that fails the save is stunned instead of dazed. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

Lay on Hands (Su): You can heal wounds (your own or those of others) by touch. Each day you can use this ability a number of times equal to 1/2 your oracle level plus your Charisma modifier. With one use of this ability, you can heal 1d6 hit points of damage for every two oracle levels you possess. Using this ability is a standard action, unless the you target yourself, in which case it is a swift action. Despite the name of this ability, you only need one free hand to use this ability. At 7th level, you can spend 1d6 x 10 minutes massaging another character and when you use 1 daily use of this ability, its effect is empowered when you target that character. At 15th level, the effect becomes maximized instead.
Alternatively, you can use this healing power to deal damage to undead creatures, dealing 1d6 points of damage for every two levels you possess. Using lay on hands in this way requires a successful melee touch attack and doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity. Undead do not receive a saving throw against this damage. You must be at least 3rd level before selecting this revelation.

Pouch (Su): You have an extradimensional pouch on your body that you can store items in. Your pouch has a capacity of 10 pounds multiplied by your oracle level. Retrieving or storing an item in your pouch is a move action. Beginning at 7th level, you can retrieve or store an item as a swift action. Beginning at 15th level, you can retrieve or store an item as a free action. You can reposition the location of the pouch on your body as a free action.

Sensuality (Ex): You may add your Charisma modifier in place of your Constitution modifier to your Fortitude saves and to your hit points.

Skin Dance (Sp): You can use disguise self[I] once per day, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter. At 7th level, this improves to [I]alter self. At 11th level, this improves to polymorph. At 15th level, this improves to greater polymorph. At 19th level, this improves to shape change.

Sure Thing (Ex): Whenever you make a Charisma check or Charisma-based skill check, you roll twice and take the better of the two results.

Final Revelation:

Upon reaching 20th level, you become a master of the flesh. You gain fast healing 5. A number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifier, you can apply a single metamagic feat to a conjuration (healing) spell without increasing the effective spell level. Once per day, you can cast mass heal.

This is... wow. Different from Zel's work, but still... wow. O_O

@SmiloDan: interesting work as ever, good to see you're keeping from being bored...
;)

My problem with the Flesh Mystery as you present it here is that it confuses or conflates the flesh-as-analagous-to-sensuality-and-passion concept with flesh-as-skin-and-dermal-matter.

I don't see Armor of flesh thematically, unless you add something like "...armor made of tough living leather-like flesh..." or "...your skin becomes ultra-tough and resilient to blows..." Even then it's not really passion-based and doesn't fit the other passion abilities you have in the Mystery: Sensuality, Blissful night, Gentle Caress...

Pouch also I'm not getting. It seems out of place, and also feels like it was meant originally to be a skin-pocket that became an extra-dimensional pocket in your mechanic/treatment of the ability.

Beguile: is this usable against monsters and NPC's as well - it only mentions "characters"...

I think the abilities are great, the spell list is spot on, but as I said, the Mystery feels like a thematic mish-mash of two separate concepts. Hope you don't mind the critique! :)

Thanks for the critique! :-D

For Armor of Flesh, I considered the following:
[i]Alluring Armor (Ex): [i] Your beauty distracts the beholder. You apply a morale penalty to attack rolls against you equal to your Charisma modifier.

I suppose we could make it be -4, -2 at 7th and every 4 levels thereafter....

For Pouch, I wanted a way for the pretty oracle to wear a leopardskin bikini and not be encumbered by a backpack, but still have access to stuff.

For Beguile, characters also refers to NPCs and creatures.

Ah, that all makes sense then! I like the idea of Alluring Armor, and now I understand the reason behind Pouch I'm happy with it. And thanks for the clarification in Beguile!

I think the problem I find with Alluring Armor, and Lust/Passion powers in general is the gender/race attraction element. A nominally heterosexual/homosexual foe suddenly finds a same sex/opposite sex glamour irresistible?Or a "bug from slime county" suddenly can't keep it's pedipalpy pseudopods off the suddenly "sexy hotness" humanoid?

I know it's a magical glamour power, but it does seem to stretch verisimilitude. What do you guys think?

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

We could add language such as "a character that would find you sexually attractive suffers a morale penalty to attack rolls against you."

SmiloDan wrote:

Huh. Neat. I like it.

Some of those abilities (Alluring Armor particularly) sound like Expys from my Passion mystery, but since ALL of my mystery abilities were Expys from other oracle abilities, I suppose I can't fault that.

Actually, your mystery makes a nice archetype adjustment to mine.

On the other hand... it's just a bit exploitative. Leather print bikini? I typically consider Seoni to be about the limit of realistic revealing clothes (and she's pushing that limit). Still, for cases like Seoni (I used her miniature for my Oracle of Passion playtest character) I totally agree with your thoughts on armor boosting abilities.

As for the dimensional pocket... meh. My oracle got the men in the party to carry her things for her. :p

Anywho - have you looked over Bardess and my conversation? What do you think about additional archetypes for Oracle or other classes along this sort of theme?

And to Bardess - didn't mean to be away so long, but I just haven't been feeling the creative spark lately. I'm kinda hoping I can talk SmiloDan here into kicking out some more ideas on some of the concepts we talked about above - the more the merrier and all.

Yup! I e-mailed them last week to ask what the delay was, and I got a reply saying it was posted. ^^

Here is a paladin archetype I've been working on, the Templar of Passion. They are champions of the goddess of passion in my campaign world. Unlike other deities of love, she is the goddess of both love and war. She encompasses all passion, from the bed to the battlefield. Her holy warriors, therefore, are both fierce fighters and passionate lovers.

Most, if not all, of the abilities are just rehashed to fit the archetype. I used and modified some abilities from the Sister of Rapture base class, namely distracting beauty and kisses of power, with some changes.

Templar of Passion (Paladin Archetype)

Armor Proficiency: Templars of passion do not gain medium or heavy armor proficiencies.

Distracting Beauty (Su): The templar of passion gains a sacred bonus to her AC equal to her Charisma modifier at 1st level. This bonus is divinely granted, thus working even against creatures that would not normally be sexually attracted to humanoid females (including creatures generally immune to mind-affecting powers such as constructs or undead), and is constant even while flat-footed or against touch attacks, but not while unconscious.
The bonus from distracting beauty applies only when she wears light or no armor. She loses all benefits of her distracting beauty when wearing medium or heavy armor. The bonus is also limited by an armor’s maximum Dexterity bonus. For example, a templar of passion with a Charisma score of 18 that is wearing a chain shirt can gain up to a +4 Charisma bonus to her AC, while the same templar of passion wearing chainmail only gains a +2 Charisma bonus to her AC.
At 7th level, the bonus applies when she wears medium armor. Additionally, she gains armor proficiency (medium).
At 14th level, the bonus applies when she wears heavy armor. Additionally, she gains armor proficiency (heavy).
This ability replaces detect evil and aura of faith.

Passionate Strike (Su): Once per day as swift action, a templar of passion can call on her internal passion to aid her against evil. Against evil targets, the templar of passion gains her Charisma bonus (if any) on her attack rolls against evil creatures, and if she hits, she adds 1/2 her paladin level on her weapon damage rolls as well. These bonuses last for 1 round for every two paladin levels the Templar of Passion has attained (minimum 1 round). In addition, for 1 round after the templar of passion successfully strikes an evil creature, all non-evil allies within 30 feet of her gain a competence bonus on attack rolls equal to 1/2 her Charisma bonus against that creature as well as a +1 competence bonus on damage rolls. The bonus on damage rolls increases by +1 for every five levels the templar of passion attains (to a maximum of +5 at 20th level). She can grant this bonus against more than one creature at a time. To gain this benefit, the templar of passion’s allies must be able to see or hear her, and she must be conscious.
At 4th level, and every three levels thereafter, the templar of passion may use passionate strike one additional time per day (to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level).
This ability replaces smite evil.

Kiss of Power (Su): At 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th and 18th levels, a templar of passion may pick from one of the following Kiss of Power abilities. Thereafter, she has access to that Kiss of Power and any previous ones she already has. Using a Kiss of Power against an unwilling target requires a successful melee touch attack. Save DCs are 10 + 1/2 the templar of passion’s class levels + the templar of passion’s Charisma modifier unless otherwise specified. Each Kiss may be used only once per day and against only corporeal, living creatures. Failure to hit does not cost the templar of passion the use of that Kiss.
NOTE: The kisses of power were basically all the kisses of power from the SoR in addition to the mercies paladins gain. They are not used in conjunction with Lay on Hands.
This ability replaces the mercy and channel positive energy abilities.

Passion’s Wrath (Su): At 11th level, a templar of passion can expend two uses of her passionate strike ability at once to enhance its effects. This functions as passionate strike, except the bonus she provides to her allies lasts until each creature she strikes is slain, her passionate strike ability expires, or the paladin herself is slain or knocked unconscious, whichever happens first.
This ability replaces aura of justice.

Passion’s Champion (Ex): At 20th level, a templar of passion chooses one weapon, such as the longsword, greataxe, or longbow. Whenever she uses her passionate strike ability with this weapon she uses twice her Charisma modifier as a bonus to attack and her full paladin level as a bonus to damage. Additionally, any attacks made with that weapon have their damage multiplier increased by 1 (×2 becomes ×3, for example).
This ability replaces holy champion.

Please let me know what you think. I also have a prestige class version that has the distracting beauty and kisses of power abilities, with bonus combat feats in between. All of this is a work in progress and I have yet to play test it.

I like it: particularly, I find a very fit idea to replace Mercies with Kisses. I could steal some idea from it for my Oath of Love Paladin- after all, the kiss of a prince (or princess) is SUPPOSED to break even an arch-witch's eternal slumber great hex, isn't it? Maybe I'll post something tomorrow...
A question: if the distracting beauty ability works only in light armor or no armor, does it make sense to state that it's limited from a heavier armor's maximum dexterity bonus?

At higher levels (7th and 14th), it applies when she is wearing Medium Armor or Heavy Armor.

Bardess wrote:

:-) To me the kisses seemed like an excellent replacement/variation of a paladin's mercies. I was tempted to keep them linked with LoH, maybe with a healing kiss or something, but I decided against it. I also want to state that any feats that effect kisses (from the SoR book) or a paladin's mercies would effect a templar of passion's kisses as well.

Bardess wrote:

Feel free. I was trying to come up with my own Oath of Passion more specific to my goddess of passion, but could not figure out what abilities to give the paladin that encompassed both love and war... >.<

Bardess wrote:

As SmiloDan said, the bonus applies with Medium armor at 7th and Heavy armor at 14th. Before then it acts much like a ranger's combat style in which they lose the benefits if they wear anything but light, medium or no armor. Even if the templar of passion were to pick an armor proficiency feat before 7th, it still would not apply though.

I wanted to change the original Distracting Beauty from the SoR to fit those that actually wear armor, like paladins and whatnot. Limiting the Charisma bonus to the armor's Maximum Dexterity Bonus just felt like a natural balance to the strong ability.

What I envisioned for distracting beauty was to portray those female paladins wearing very revealing plate or chain mail armors that you see in some artwork from games and such. Yea the armors wouldn't necessarily provide much protection, but wouldn't someone be a little distracted in battle seeing women wearing said armor?

Oh, I also changed one of the magic armor special abilities from BoEF to fit more with my campaign world and the templar of passion:

Enticing: This ability is only found in armor – there are no known instances of shields possessing it. Regardless of the type of armor, the wearer’s physical features are accentuated and enhanced, showing tantalizing bits while still providing protection. A suit of armor with this ability grants the wearer a +2 enhancement bonus to Charisma. In addition, the wearer may add their Charisma modifier to all Will saves. Once per day, the wearer of the armor may cast unnatural lust as if by a 7th-level sorcerer.
Additionally, if the wearer possesses the Distracting Beauty class feature, she may use her full Charisma bonus to her sacred bonus to AC. Normally the sacred bonus to AC is limited by the armor’s max dexterity bonus.
Moderate transmutation; CL: 7th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, eagle’s splendor, resistance, unnatural lust; Price: +2 bonus.

REALLY nice the Enticing Armor! If we ever make a Book of Love for Pathfinder, this and the Templar of Passion have my vote to get definitely in!
I'll post my Oath of Love later today, or maybe tomorrow... ^-^

Wow, I love this one. Gimme that sexual healing!

And here you are!

Oath of Love

True love is a fundament of the community, and the greatest source of courage and strength. The valorous knights who take the Oath of Love put themselves at the service of young couples in distress, threatened families, betrayed lovers, and of their own one and pure love. This has not necessarily to be courtly platonic love, but these paladins believe in being faithful and true, and strive to accomplish great deeds so that their beloved can be proud of them. You can’t really care for the whole world unless you care for one person at a time.

Faithful Heart (Ex): At 3rd level, the paladin gains a +4 sacred bonus on saving throws against all charm and compulsion spells and effects. This replaces divine health.

Mercy (Su): The paladin removes diseased, exhausted and deafened from her list of available mercies. She instead adds these to her list of available mercies (detailed in Kobold Quarterly #14, "Healing Hands"):
6th level: Charmed
9th level: Confused
12th level: Dominated

Divine Bond (Sp): This works like the paladin’s normal divine bond ability, except as follows. If the paladin’s bond is with a weapon, she cannot use that ability to add the keen weapon property, but she can add the allying weapon property. If the paladin’s bond is with her steed, this ability is unchanged.

Kiss of the Royal Knight (Su): At 11th level, a paladin may kiss the lips of a creature subjected to an enchantment or sleep spell or effect, ending that effect as if the paladin had used break enchantment. The paladin makes a caster level check (1d20 + caster level, maximum +15) against a DC of 11 + caster level of the effect. Success means that the creature is free of the spell or effect. This ability can reverse even the eternal slumber great hex of a witch. This replaces aura of justice.

Code of Conduct: Defend true love against fate and circumstances. Be faithful to your own true love in all occasions. Punish unfaithful lovers, rapers, love stealers, deceivers, and those who hinder true love.

Oath Spells: 1st- adoration, 2nd- hold person, 3rd- suggestion, 4th- geas/quest.

Deities: Iomedae, Sarenrae, Shelyn.

Now, I understand that antipaladins of Calistria should have their share too, only I am not going to do it... Zel, you can do it yourself if you will! :P

Actually, I'll remove the new mercies, since they are redundant with the Kiss. Speaking of what- I wouldn't name it "Princely Kiss" because it sounds too "men-only", but the name I found doesn't seem to fit entirely... what do you think?

Oath of Love

Love is a fundament of the community, and the greatest source of courage and strength. True love has nothing in common with selfishness- it is indeed real altruism and abnegation. The valorous who take the Oath of Love put themselves at the service of young couples in distress, threatened families, betrayed lovers, and of their own one and pure love. This has not necessarily to be courtly platonic love, but these paladins believe in being faithful and true, and strive to accomplish great deeds so that their beloved can be proud of them. True Love's Kiss perhaps? Also, were you planning on this being useable in conjunction with the Templar of Passion archetype? If so, the Kiss and Passion's Wrath are the same level and both replace Aura of Justice.

Also, Faithful Heart would be useless once the paladin reaches 8th level with Aura of Resolve. Unless this was intentional, maybe change Faithful Heart to be somewhere along the lines of a Oath of Loyalty paladin's Loyal Oath ability where they pick a single target, designated as their 'true love' or something, and granting them some kind of bonus. I'm just spit-balling here. >.<

Overall, I do like the Oath. Perhaps we could also think of one for more passionate paladins.

Edit: How about this?

Faithful Heart (Ex): The oathbound paladin gains Aura of Resolve at 3rd level instead of at 8th level. Additionally, her Aura of Resolve grants her immunity to compulsion spells and effects and also provides a +4 morale bonus to saving throws against compulsion spells and effects to each ally within 10 feet. This replaces divine health.

Right. I forgot about aura of resolve. Actually, the oath of chastity has a similar power to, so I didn't think of it.
What do you think about this?

Oath of Love

Love is a fundament of the community, and the greatest source of courage and strength. True love has nothing in common with selfishness- it is indeed real altruism and abnegation. The valorous who take the Oath of Love put themselves at the service of young couples in distress, threatened families, betrayed lovers, and of their own one and pure love. This has not necessarily to be courtly platonic love, but these paladins believe in being faithful and true, and strive to accomplish great deeds so that their beloved can be proud of them. You can’t really care for the whole world unless you care for one person at a time.

Discern Lies (Sp): At 3rd level, the paladin can discern lies, as the inquisitor's ability, for a number of rounds per day equal to her paladin level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. Activating this ability is an immediate action. This replaces divine health.

Aura of Faithful Resolve (Su): At 8th level, the paladin's aura of resolve ability is stronger than normal, providing immunity to all charm and compulsion spells and spell-like abilities. Each ally within 10 feet of her gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and compulsion effects.

Kiss of True Love (Su): At 11th level, a paladin may kiss the lips of a creature subjected to an enchantment or sleep spell or effect, ending that effect as if the paladin had used break enchantment.

Discern lies is not as powerful as divine health, but this accounts for the greater aura of resolve later- what do you think?
And- I didn't mean to make the oath compatible with your archetype, that would be redundant. The Templar has a good morning kiss ability already and does well as it is. I made it for paladins wanting just a little "fairy tales prince" in their life. ^-^

Looks good. Overall it seems like a well balanced oath. I'm surprised they didn't add something like this to begin with.

I agree. Seems like a fair trade-off since the new Aura of Faithful Resolve adds the immunity to compulsion effects.

I guess I'll move Kiss of True Love at 17th level, since it's a pretty powerful ability (contrasting a great hex) and aura of righteousness is pretty useless with aura of faithful resolve at 8th level anyway.

Here, semplified again a little more...

I think you made an excellent choice in calling it 'Passion' because she is every bit as much the deity of vengeance as she is of hot sexiness... but then in my opinion you neglected that aspect of her with your power/spell choices. I don't see any balance issues mechanics-wise, but focusing too much on the softer side of her might unbalance you flavor-wise.

That's why the mystery is not for Calistria only but for Shelyn and Cayden as well.

Oh, this thread reminded me. I've posted my lust mystery as part of National Cleavage Day (a great day in South Africa) in 2011.

I reworded the kiss power... after all, a kiss by a prince/ss should break the spell on Frog Princes/ses too...

Kiss of True Love (Su): At 12th level, a paladin may kiss the lips of a creature subjected to an enchantment, transmutation or sleep spell or effect, ending that effect as if the paladin had used break enchantment. The paladin makes a caster level check (1d20 + caster level, maximum +15) against a DC of 11 + caster level of the effect. Success means that the creature is free of the spell or effect. Ehm, the lust mystery is... I have no words for that. ^-^

Very nice! A different flavor than mine, but it works very nicely. I may give that one a try at some point.

Also, I had... a thought. Some recent Kickstarters have caused me to wonder if the idea of making a Book of Erotic Fantasy for Pathfinder isn't a possibility after all. It would require contacting some people - and I haven't really got the time just now, what with my newborn kid and work taking up much of said time. However, it might be something to look into in the near future.

Actually using this Passion Mistery in the Way of Wicked AP and is working really well. Good job to all.
