Tiefling Lineage Variants Info

Council of Thieves

I'm making a Tiefling character and am trying to figure out my background for him based on his Tiefling type. Is there any book I can read to find out more information on the different ones? Like the Daemon, Daemond, and the others that aren't really talked about in the core books. The random roll I got was the Daemon based one. Any information would be helpful, thank you.

There is information on all the Outsiders in "Pathfinder Chronicles: The Great Beyond". Daemons will also have some information in the upcoming Bestiary 2 (iirc).

Thanks I'll be sure to check that out. Appreciate it.

Scarab Sages

I also have a question - I have a pc who is a div-spawn. Along with GMing CoT, I'm playing in Legacy of Fire, so please no spoilers directly from that.

Does anyone know anything about Divs?

Daemons are NE fiends from Abaddon. They crave nothing less than the destruction of all mortal souls. As such, they are the most hated beings in the multiverse. Demons and devils will actually team up with angels against these guys(and regularly do to protect the souls of the dead heading for the Boneyard). Their big theme is death.

Divs are like NE fiendish offshoots of geniekind. They strive to make mortal life miserable and full of suffering. They're kind of jerks. Vary wildly in theme and appearance. If a pairaka shows interest in you, DON'T. If they have the choice between making someone live in suffering or killing them, they'll go with the former every time.

IIRC, Asuras, in the Golarion-verse, are LE misbegotten creations of the gods who represent mockeries of certain divine ideals and follow them with absolute religious zeal. Indian-theme to their design and philosophies. Demons from Hindu belief would most likely be rolled in with these guys, unless they are:

Rakshasas. Animal-headed, backwards-handed LE flesh-bound fiends. Evil mortals who escaped Pharasma's judgment by locking themselves into a separate, unnatural reincarnation cycle. Manipulative shape-shifters, with a taste for high living and breaking all sorts of taboos on the side. They can absorb the souls of other rakshasas to become even more powerful. Bring crossbow bolts.

Qlippoth, the proto demons, original CE inhabitants of the Abyss. Completely alien, horrifying to look upon. Like the obyriths of 3.x. Mainstream demons were created by the mixture of qlippoth and mortal souls.

Demodands, CE outlier fiend race who haven't really been explored yet in the Golarion-verse. Traditionally, they've been an exiled, on-the-outs race of fiends with limited numbers. Three specific types, 3333 of each.

Oni, ?E fiends, possibly earthbound like rakshasas, who take on a variation of forms from other beings, like the Ogre Mage.

Thanks Mikaze! very helpful.

Nay proba.

I'm just going off what I remember of them before I had to stop reading Legacy of Fire of course, when it turned out I was actually going to get to play in it. But that's what I remember about divs according to what I got to read and what their daddy Adam Daigle has said on the forums.

I'm serious, the pairakas still make me uncomfortable after all this time.

Pairaka? What's that? And Oni are more of your Asian themed fiends. Think I remember Demodands from the old Planescape books. Asuras used to be a type of Angel back when if I remember right. But again thank you guys for the info, appreciate it.

The first Council of Thieves Adventure, Bastards of Erebus, has a whole section devoted to information on tieflings. There are rules for 10 different tiefling lineages (asura, daemon, demodand, demon, devil, div, kyton, oni, qlippoth, and rakshasa) with different attribute bonuses/penalties, some tiefling-only feats, and 100 alternate abilities that replace the tiefling's darkness spell-like ability. A must have for any tiefling lover.

Pairaka are from Pathfinder AP #20: House of the Beast. They're NE divs similar to succubi/erinyes.

Oni are most definitely from Japanese mythology.

Asuras are from the Hindu religion. While not necessarily evil in Hinduism, they're LE in Pathfinder. The Beatific One is a CR 9 asura statted in Pathfinder #9: Escape From Old Korvosa, while the Adhukait is a CR 7 asura from Pathfinder #28: The Infernal Syndrome.
