So, I extrapolate from this that Paizo cannot afford to make a really big investment from which they get no return.

Even if Paizo had all the money in the world, I would never greenlight a big investment that got no return. That would be the ultimate in stupidity. :)

That said, if an outside company with experience in making animated series came to us with the idea the OP stated, we would be open to it, but it wouldn't involve Paizo money and very little of Paizo staffers' time.

Hmmm. Sintel was funded with donations. Maybe there's enough Paizo fans that could all chip in a few bucks each to fund a 10-15 minute short focusing on two or three of the iconics?

It's pretty. Very very pretty.

The general consensus is that the OVA was fantastic but there's quite a bit of debate over the Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. I liked them but others complain endlessly.

-------------------------------

A vaguely disturbing thought about a Pathfinder OVA:

If it's going to be made in Japan/Korea... How would people respond to the Hentai of the iconics which would spring up in it's wake almost immediately?

I'd be amased if it didn't already exist.

Hm. Stumped for Sajan, Seltiyiel, Seelah, and Amiri. We can save the APG iconics for Season 2.

I think I would be the perfect guy to play Sajan... er, a bit shorter and bulkier version of Sajan with an orange beard (and glowing eyes)! As a librarian I naturally know some cool monk moves...

Does anyone *dare* to disagree, hmmm? ;P

The Exchange

I'd be happy with a PF comic series.

I now second the motion for Pathfinder hentai. Weren't we voting? =3

I'm waiting for the first fan made mini movie to pop up after all this talk. I don't care if it's a cartoon or live action, I just know someone is out there wheels turning. Heck I'd settle for a short teaser like what has been done for the Wheel of Time books.

I liked it a lot.

The flair is a mix between East and West - You recognise a lot of D&D-isms, but magic has a typical Eastern animism flair (the spells are all invocations calling spirits to do magic).

When you want a theme song for a paladin, you need We damn the night! by Helloween.

Even if there weren't a killion things speaking against you (many speaking against you portraying Sajan, but why limit oneself?), I'd disagree as a matter of course!

Yeah. That too.

On the subject of Pathfinder comics, I'm illustrating some of the characters from my current Pathfinder campaign and I'm trying to recreate Kentaro Miura's style (he draws Berserk). Here's the first design. The extremely snobby and bratty 17yo wizard Copor, the Magnificent with his familiar Hassar.

http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/KGanryuS/?action=view&current=Cop orTheMagnificent.jpg

I've been playing with the idea of recreating a few scenes from the campaign, but I never got myself to do it. It takes a lot of time to make even one comic book page.

On another note I totally love Miura's style and I think it'd be awesome for a Pathfinder comic. Too bad he's stuck playing Idol Master :P

Edit: I realize I went nearly totally off-topic with this post! Sorry :P

Much like they respond to the Simpsons/Dora/Inspector Gadget porn I suppose.

That said never play internet chicken with someone from 4chan.

BTW I strongly suggest against looking for such.

Nah, it's easy. Try this one: "I dare you to be really nice, positive and supportive because I bet you can't do it."

You win!

*ahem* I believe *I* thirded the idea of pathfinder hentai...?

Dark Archive

This shouldn't be an animated series.

It should be a webcomic. Much cheaper. Every few comics, it can be a lighthearted look at the world of RPGs, Dork Tower style.

Shadow Lodge

I've honestly been pondering drawing a webcomic set in the Pathfinder world. Would be rather fun.

We've already had a play. Still waiting for the DVD release though.

We need Hayao Miyazaki to make the cartoon, then all the Hiyo fans will know about Pathfinder and it will be freakkin' awesome!

I don't wanna watch Pathfinder, but play Baldur's...ahm... Absalom's Gate :)
But for real, a computer rpg on Golarion would totally rock. Again, it has to be done right. My biggest dream/wish is a Pathfinder ComputerRPG with that awesome grafix from Diablo3.
Well... I am sure this will never happen, though... :`(

there is too much naked toon out there, being a japanese production doesn't mean it would become a hentai product (but with the dojousihins one never knows), but yeah no idea isafe from rule 34

I like Miyazaki well enough but I would rather not see my Pathfinder game turned into a 2 hour long enviromental cartoon message.

Sovereign Court

That Miyazaki's message slightly differs from the Hollywood standard is something I find quite refreshing.

Spoiler:
It's okay though, BP, Shell and Exxon have come together to release OilBaronMaker.

Our heroes strip-mine the Stolen Lands and pollute the Encarthan Sea until all of the fish die, the swamps are clogged with oil and thousands of people have their livelihoods destroyed.

In the end it's like Second Darkness without the asteroid needing to hit.

But y'know, at least it's not spoiled by one Environmental parable every two years.

I like Miyazaki. Princess Mononoke is a favorite of mine, as is Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, and Kiki's Delivery Service. However, I really did not like his treatment of Howl's Moving Castle, in that he took a nice little story and changed it to suit the message he wanted to tell, which is pretty similar to the message he always wants to tell. I would have prefered leaving the story as it was. I have nothing, per se, against his message, but its always the same, no matter what other story he is trying to tell. I would prefer Miyazaki to write his own stories and let others do the adaptation of other people's stories. If that makes sense. Not that I suspect its even an issue as regards Pathfinders Golarion. :)

I want Go Nagai, talking 'bout hentai :) Love Miyazaki too of course, and Nobuteru Yuuki for the character design ( Record of Lodoss war OVA )

Liberty's Edge

ok i we can't have record of loddoss war's design i would love to have the guys of Ergo Proxy or GitS, pretty realistic, profound and mature stories where action is still plentiful, that works for me.

I never meant the official product would be hentai, simply that there are a lot of bored/unemployed artists in Japan/Korea with the bursting of the Anime bubble.

It's fast, easy to do if someone else has already done the original character design and frankly, hentai usually sells.

Artists got to eat too and unfortunately, it pays the bills.

Besides, I meant my post as a "Huh. I wonder if people have thought about this?"

-------------------------------

Regardless, if the traditional track record of tabletop games and cartoons is anything to go by, an animated series usually falls into the realms of needlessly expensive pointless things that people laugh about watching years later - for cases in point see the Battletech, Heavy Gear and D&D animated series.

Not that I'm saying Paizo can't do one well, but history has not been kind to the gaming industry.

An open movie project recently completed and premiered.
Project Durian

It used open source software exclusively.

It took about half a dozen people approximately 6-8 months to complete, and cost somewhere around half a million dollars. I can't quite recall. It's a 15 minute animation. Granted, the cost for 15 minutes is not indicative of the cost for 30 minutes, an hour, or a season. But it is pricey, even if you're going for the cheap of the cheap.

At any rate, enjoy the movie. It's D&D-esque.

By the way, these guys are looking for work now, as this project just let up 2 weeks ago. :)

pathfinder really needs a few cheesy B movies. those thimgs are awesome. maybe something like old school godzilla or ultraman. those 2 series are gold mines of awesome.

IF such a thing EVER happened... I would LOVE to get involved (I have always wanted to break into voice-over acting) and since I adore Paizo (who doesn't?) I feel like this would be an AWESOME opportunity... which I realize might not happen... but I'd still like to break into voice-over acting.

Any hints?

The fact that you were forced to hear her voice on the menu for the DVDs was...unforgivable.
