[Suggestion for future product] Starcraft

Paizo General Discussion

Hello Paizo.

Well, Starcraft 1 has been a loved game around the world for 12 years now. Now Starcraft 2 has renewed the fire in gamers all around the world and has introduced the game again to millions of people (by Blizzards own records).

There has not been any news about any PnP RPG game for this setting so I would strongly suggest Paizo to use that skill and knowledge that gave us awesome Pathfinder rules and make a Starcraft product. Get Blizzard to give you the rights for that before others have (like Wizards did with Star Wars).

I know there is an Alternity based Starcraft already but that one is outdated and honestly crap (not to mention no longer supported) and I know you can make a much much better product.

Starcraft 2 will yet have two expansion each coming out 1.5-2 years after last one so life time of Starcraft 2 will be at least 4-5 years more. That gives you plenty of time to create a book in 1 year and for a long time have a big group of people for product placement.

Please consider this suggestion honestly.

Sincerely,
Your and Starcraft's great fan.

doubt it would happen for 3 reasons:

1)I don't think Paizo has the staff for it

2) Fantasy Flight has the license for Warcraft and Starcraft board games, I'm not sure how encompassing that license is

3)Blizzard is notorious for pulling licenses if a game isn't a hit within its first 6 months

Liberty's Edge

To be honest, I thought this was a joke/troll post. :-/

A few years back, this might have been possible, what with the WotC Licensed Diablo material and the Sword and Sorcery d20 Warcraft material.

But Blizzard is now Blizzard-Activision, and the new CeO is the sock puppet of Lucifer. I'd give poor odds to a deal with WotC, much less a smaller company like Paizo. Before, when the Blizz higher-ups cared about quality, maybe. Now, with Kotick trolling for the biggest profit, no way.

But, that doesn't prevent fan work from being done, as long as nobody makes a buck off of it. There was a thread here regarding a conversion for Pathfinder rules. By all means, lets get some action rolling in it again.

The Exchange

You could just re-skin the Warhammer 40k RPGs (Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Deathwatch) for playing as Terrans since Starcraft was based off of 40k to begin with. They don't have character races/classes for the Eldar (Protoss) or the Tyranids (Zerg) but they are in the monster sections and creature book for Dark Heresy.

The system uses d100 but most of the mechanics are VERY similar to d20 and can easily be converted.

Well, they can try. And there are no bigger companies for PnP then WotC, but Paizo is known for quality so I see no reason not to try with them unless Warcraft RPG was a big success (I do not know anyone that really played that) and they want to continue to work with S&S.

Well, S&S is the d20 OGL offshoot of White Wolf. As far as I know, they essentially closed up shop around 2 years ago and haven't released anything since. I'm not even sure if their website is still up.

Paizo have also been burnt quite badly by licenses being pulled in the past (SW Insider, Dungeon & Dragon), and I think one of the reasons they've stated for releasing Pathfinder is that they wanted to be able to operate without relying on any other company to renew their contracts with Paizo.

Has anyone actually tackled upon such a conversion sheet? I would *love* to play SH/RT/DW using Pathfinder rules.

Our focus is on Pathfinder for now, and for the foreseeable future.

+1

No need to re-invent the wheel. I'm only familiar with Deathwatch, but I do believe this game system could easily be adapted to the Starcraft Universe.

Also I think, it was mentioned else where, Paizo, after being burned by Wotc because the company decided not to renew Paizo's liscence to publish Dungeon and Dragon magazine, decided to focus on developing its own stuff rather then rely on someone else's stuff and a possibly revokable liscence.
