Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the veal and tip your waitress.

But, I think we're oversimplifying. This is a very complex issue. Let's ponder the following.
The paladin has a book out and its overdue. He actually tries to return the book, but the librarian attempts to kill the paladin. Now, clearly, so long as the paladin doesn't enjoy himself in doing so, he can kill the librarian . . . but what if there are no other librarians to accept the book?
If he just leaves it, someone could steal it.
If he keeps it, hasn't he just stolen it, and as such, just committed an act of Chaos?
Would the paladin have to find a suitable librarian and then convince them to transfer to his local branch to subvert this situation? Does he loose his powers until he can convince the librarian to change branches, or does he loose them until the librarian actually moves to the new branch and can legally accept his book?
We need to get this answered now, guys!

What if the paladin was overdue, and then the overdue book was accidently put in his recycling bin and sent to the recycling center so he couldn't return it. Then, the paladin finds out that the librarian is actually a psychic vampire who feeds off the fear of patrons with overdue books and children come to take out Go Dog Go.
Is this evil? Or a cheezy Stephen King short story?

Well that wasn't very lawful or good of you. If you were a paladin, you might lose your powers for that.

My monster entry says "Always Lawful Good." Clearly, you need to adapt your alignment definitions to accommodate whatever I am doing at the time.

I believe this is a case of "Lawyered".
