Or rather cheap red.
Our group just got a 9th lvl Drunken Monk as a member. As I am playing the Wizard I thought it would be a nice welcoming gift to make the monk a custom magic item. Considering the ammount of booze the monk will get through I was thinking of an everfull gourd.

However how to build it on the cheap as I am poor.
Basing the gourd on minor creation would work but that is rather pricy.

Any cheaper ideas I can take to the DM?

Harumph...I oughta flag your thread for false advertising...

The Arms & Equipment Guide had an "Everfull Mug" for 800gp, that filled with water, wine, or ale (all of mediocre quality, IIRC) 3/day.

Maybe that could be a starting point.

The "Sustaining Spoon" (formerly Murlynd's) can conjure enough gruel each day to feed 4 people, and it costs 5400gp.

I think the spoon is based on minto creation or the cleric "feed-a-horde" spell of the same level.

That mug from the arms guide looks like exactly what I need. Must find

Use this:

Bag of Holding
Type I 15 lbs. 250 lbs. 30 cubic ft. 2,500 gp

Simply define the bag as a wineskin. Let him fill up the bag with 30 cubic feet by volume or 250 lbs by weight of the wine or ale of his choice by emptying a cask into it, then just go around with this and drink it. When he runs out, refill.

Good idea, however this would make his "drinking gourd" weigh 15 pounds no?

Nothing about item creation demands that items weigh a certain amount ;)

I'd say ask your DM, they'd most likely either just let you have it as a ~1 pound item, or maybe up the cost a little (by no more than a couple hundred, IMO). The reason the bag weighs so much is so that it has a big enough opening to be able to move the items that it generally holds in and out of it. A smaller bag (more like pouch sized) wouldn't be able to hold very big items because of the small aperture.

One thing I remind my players of all the time: The magic items listed in the chapter are just suggestions. If you have a cool idea, let me know and we can work it out.
