Barding for Familliars

Rules Questions

So im wondering if i can put barding on my little critter. i know he would need to be proficient with the armor unless he gets armor prof (which i dont think he ever can). but in general if i give it a mithral chain shirt would that just ... work?

for the purposes of the thread though what do you think about the spell failure chance on familiars?

Shadow Lodge

Well, since Familiars can deliver spells instead of cast them, I'd say they wouldn't have any chance of spell failure.

How are you going to get the wee beastie the armor prof? Without that the armor will do much more harm than good.

Asking cause the idea of my toad in a breastplate is just too cool.

If you're just going with a mithril chainshirt, I don't see an issue with it. No ACP, so no problems on attack of damage and a +4 ac. That's pretty cool.

F$+@ Mithril Shirt im rockin a rat in stone plate...

Okay, might as well get him adamantine anything. DR 3/-.

Viper in full plate. Is it a familiar or a Cat-5 cable?

Btw Is all this in any way kosher? Wearing armor you don't have proficiency in causes hughe problems no?

Penalty on attack rolls, penalty on str and dex based checks, slower speed... but worth +9 AC maybe.

.....and as the little buggers don't have Endurance remembering to take the suit off every night. More trouple than it is worth I think. Maybe for a familiar with hands. Great idea though.

Ps can't stop laughing about this. A Torble in a brest n' back = walking drinks tray.

Shadow Lodge

A Toad in spiked adamantine full plate + A Wizard with the Throw Anything feat + Deliver Touch Spells = "What just hit me!?" "My Battle-Toad."

thats actually a really good idea

Sovereign Court

Don't forget that you divide the armor bonus of the armor by 2 since it's for a tiny or smaller creature.

Full price, a 10th of the weight and then half the AC bonus. Luckily it lets gives you enchantable armor for the little friend too, so you could toss on say Energy Resistance or Greater Shadow.

Undead Controlling would be silly, Glamored might be a really good idea in the long run.

Perfectly viable. Tiny Mithril Light Chain Barding +1

Just because your raven isn't wearing a tuxedo and ordering an army of the Undead doesn't mean my bat can't!

I look good in a tuxedo. I'm wearing one right now, I swear.

Shadow Lodge

Ranger 6/Wizard 5/Eldritch Knight 9

Possible Feats:
Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Weapon Focus(Toad)
Deadly Aim
Improved Precise Shot
Arcane Strike
Throw Anything

I'm no good at making up stats on the fly, but I'm starting to realize toads can be more dangerous than I was first lead to believe...

Arcane Trickster = Sneak Attack Battle-Toad
