I can only say for myself that high level gaming can get tedious as well as strenuous.

I was in a great high level Planescape Campaign in 2E. At least for us, high level became less about combat and more about roleplay. At those levels any action the pcs take has consequence, politically and personally. When there was combat, it tended to be epic and memorable, but combat was the exception as opposed to the rule.

Is it safe to look to the last two god articles and deduce the next AP must somehow feature events of interest to Torag and Norberger? Any thoughts on a story that could involve the forge and protection versus greed and secrets?

Seriously, though, the AP I'm most interested in seeing, aside from a high-level epic campaign when those rules are ready, is one set in Numeria. I'd kind of rolled my eyes when I first read about it, but having to take a new look based on its proximity to Kingmaker, it started sparking memories of the old TSR setting of Jakandar. That island featured opposing cultures of necromancers vs. barbarians and allowed for campaigns to be played from either side. The AP in my mind would allow for that same option and feature a campaign which allows for the PCs to be from either faction competing against the other for whatever MacGuffin drove the Path.

While the last AP will have deity articles for Torag and Norgorber, that doesn't mean the AP will involve them. We do generally try to tie them in somehow, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Serpent's Skull doesn't really have much to do with Nethys, for example.

Ummm...

Jade Regent IS a highly experimental AP. The initial push for the one after Jade Regent was for a super "NON-experimental" AP—something more baseline even than, say, Rise of the Runelords or Council of Thieves. It didn't work out, though, partially because it was TOO conventional. We just couldn't work up the overall excitement or interest among the design and management teams to follow it through.

Since then, the AP we're developing INSTEAD is back in the relatively experimental category. Which is probably a good thing, honestly, since Paizo has a really good track record with APs when we get experimental in one way or another.

I'll guess that the starting mechanic is a treasure map, and that right from the very beginning the party is off to track down the loot. Or maybe, to ferry it back to Mount Doom, where it was forged. But probably just to get rich.

That should be pretty conventional.

I wish I'd thought to say this initially, but lately I really have been missing the adventures which start with PCs heading off to brave a dangerous tomb for the promise of uncovering great treasure.

Among the myriad of good things I have to say about Whispering Cairn is that it captures very well the spirit of self-guided "let's get rich" and I'd like to see more of that ilk. Not working on someone else's paycheck, not saving the world from some great evil, and not answering any ads which start with "heroes wanted."

So an AP which starts with the PCs uncovering a treasure map and then spending 15-20 levels uncovering clues, recovering keys, solving puzzles and traveling the world would be very welcome to me. There are plenty of adventures featuring PCs fighting villains and saving the day. At this point, it'd be almost experimental to NOT have them stop a demon from eating the kingdom.

I guess I can let the cat out of the bag. It's "Jade Regent 2: Ivory Retainers".

Actually, time's not up until noon on this Saturday. At Paizocon. At the "Future of Paizo's Adventure Paths and Modules" seminar, to be super precise.

There should be a live web stream! Or CNN should be covering it live. After all, these are momentous events!

The wait is killing me.

Wow, live web stream is a great idea! Maybe next year?

Does that mean that you will put into the blog as soon as you announce it so we can know whats going on out here in the seattle area? and more over why is paizo con held so far away from your headquarters? (yes that is a fully selfish question with overtones of guilt, for pure personal gain).

While I can't say whether there will be a blog entry, in previous years other folks attending the con have given updates via the messageboards.

I suspect that there'll be blog posts and facebook updates all over the place. The official blog release could happen as early as real time since we do have the capacity to live post to the blog via our iPhones and the like, but it's more likely that the "official" post will appear sometime next week as part of a PaizoCon recap type post.

But the information won't stay at PaizoCon. There's too many people at the con who have access to the internet for that.

Guh? You do know we recently put in a couple bridges to let you get from Seattle to Bellevue without having to charter a boat, right?

And the HQ is in Redmond, which is just about exactly as far away from "out [there] in the seattle area"...

/confused
