Dunno. Later. I've seen the prototypes and they're awesome.
Nice. Is it gonna be like the Sihedron Medallion from RoTL or is it gonna be slightly differant?

Slightly different. Also, not quite as blatantly magical. Alas.

1. Regarding the beastmorph alchemist, how much cosmetic control does she have over her animalistic features? Not just what appropriate features show up but how they look (e.g., beastial, Geigeresque, etc).

2. Also, could she take persistent mutagen (normally a class feature) as a discovery?

3. I'm looking to create an alchemist who uses arrows instead of bombs. Poison instead of fire damage, increased range & precision making up for lack of splash damage, and replacing Throw Anything with an archery feat seems the way to go (though the bomb discoveries will need reworking at best). Agree or disagree?

1) Unless the rules specifically state, all choices and options of that nature are left to the player to control. It's your character, after all!

2) I'd say no. You're specifically giving that up as part of your archetype, after all.

3) Disagree. An alchemist's flavor, in my mind, clashes with that of an archer. If you're changing that much about a class to make your idea work, you're probably not working with the right class.

Benefit: Select one spell of a school for which you have taken the Spell Focus feat. Treat your caster level as being two higher for all level-variable effects of the spell.
Every time you gain an even level in the spellcasting class you chose your spell from, you can choose a new spell to replace the spell selected with this feat, and that spell becomes your specialized spell.

Can it apply to Scorching Ray? Which changes rays(keeps 4d6 per ray) at 3rd, 7th and 11th?

Could it apply to Hold Person? Which increases how many rounds one can be held.

Also:

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/coreClasses/monk.html#_monk-of- the-sacred-mountain

Iron Limb Defense (Ex): At 5th level, a monk of the sacred mountain can deflect blows with an active defense that complements his bastion stance. If the monk starts and ends his turn in the same space, he gains a +2 shield bonus to AC and CMD until the start of his next turn. As a swift action, he can spend 1 ki point to increase this bonus to +4. This ability replaces high jump.

Does that shield bonus apply to Touch AC as well? I know there is a style feat chain that gets a shield bonus to apply to touch. Just trying to verify if this is all around AC and CMD(including touch) or if it just Basic ACs and CMD(excluding touch).

These questions are specific and complex enough that they really need to head on over to the rules discussions to be posted there for the FAQ.

It went VERY well. It was a blast playing with folks I don't know (and a few I do) who were familiar enough with Sandpoint to know who lived there and were invested in the setting. Really inspiring and fun!

While I don't have a twin per se... I did shed one and locked it away in a moldering attic in an old house that overlooks a forgotten stretch of fog-shrouded coastline. I'm sure nothing bad will come of this decision.

We have no plans at this point for doing those types of books, though. Our schedule for hardcovers is a LOT less agressive and "go go go!" than WotC's was at that time.

Will be seeing Mythic Achaekek Soon?

No.

In the conversion to Pathfinder, Achaekek got classified as a full deity. He can't be statted up in the game at this time as a result.

Is he still unable to attack full gods, or not limited now that he is one?

ISG still says he was "created". Was it ever revealed exactly which gods made him/who he works for?

The Great Beyond: A Guide to the Multiverse says he has a domain in Hell, but that's 3.5. Is that still true? Was it ever revealed what he does with worshiper's souls?

Also from ISG: "The Mantis God himself does not actively seek worshipers,
but the infamous assassins known as the Red Mantis pay him
devotion nonetheless, seeing assassination as a sacred rite."
Would he care if the Red Mantis were destroyed?

Achaekek does not attack deities—that's part of its fundamental reality. It can only hurt demigods or lower, and that element is carried through by its worshipers, the Red Mantis, who do not take action against rightfully-elected rulers.

It has not yet been revealed what or who created it.

Achaekek does indeed rule a corner of Hell, but no, we've not yet revealed what happens to those who are sent there in the afterlife.

I suspect he would care, although how he would react might not make sense to mortals. What with gods moving in mysterious ways and all that.

Hey James,

Well it looks like my future group for Iron Gods has single handedly deduced the identities of what the Iron Gods are and what they can do (ie granting spells), which sucks because I was hoping for more of a surprise there. As someone who loves plot twists, can I as GM expect surprises that surpass that of the identities of the IGs? I think that you guys wouldn't have named the AP that way if you wanted the true nature of the main villains to be kept as the biggest secret...

Are the PCs excited and eager to play the game? Maybe it's BECAUSE they've made these deductions and guesses that they're excited.

There are PLENTY of plot twists that they haven't guessed yet, because no one knows about them yet, including you. Unless one of my authors has been talking, in which case I am disappoint.

But allowing the players to learn some elements of an adventure before hand? That's not a spoiler. That's building anticipation.

Just as using the word "Runelords" in "Rise of the Runelords" might be though of as giving away the whole nature of the bad guys... I hardly think that ruins the campaign.

Hey James the above question inspired these question...

Have you ever changed something that your players figured out(especially if it was out of game) to keep the surprise?

Or ran a mystery by letting the PCs decide who is guilty by the vague clue you put in? Meaning letting the PC's speculation decide who was guilty.

Yes, but just as often I've kept the surprise so that they feel good for figuring it out. But most of all, I've changed what I had planned because a player guess was better.

I've also certainly let the PCs make decisions of that nature as well, especially in cases where there's no real obvious guilty party .

1) What about it? Why would that change my answer? I wouldn't be disposed to allow it since it breaks the flavor of the archetype. Your GM may differ.

2) Again, your GM may differ. If you want to have a character who has prolonged bestial cosmetic effects, I'd probably work with you to have you develop a custom creation or discovery or the like that isn't part of an archetype or class ability and is instead a reward for a quest.

3) I don't know who Eirin is, but as it turns out, there's lots of characters invented for fiction who don't fit perfectly into Pathfinder class roles. The name "alchemist" means a very specific thing in Pathifnder, as do things like "witch" or "wizard" or "bard" or "rogue." In other stories or real life, those words mean something else. Merlin, for example, is described as being a wizard in some texts, but he might make more sense to be statted up as a druid or an oracle in Pathifnder. Heck, Rasputin is a GREAT example of that. We didn't stat him up as a monk, despite the fact that in popular culture and real world history that's what he was.

1. Hey James, if you were doing a Mythic conversion of Rise of the Runelords, what sort of abilities would you give to Mythic Xanesha, whose normal form is already widely known and feared as a TPK Machine?

1a. Mythic Vital Strike or Mythic Power Attack?
1b. Would you give her Dual Initiative?

2. On a similar note, what sort of side-quest would you think the Sandpoint Devil deserves? Should there be a dungeon crawl involved with a degree of difficulty before fighting it in its lair? Should it come bursting up out of The Pit for an open battle where it can make use of its air superiority?

2a. How well can it set up an ambush as a creature with only 8 Int (and a month to think about it)?

Does a character who's a member of a particular organization NEED to have levels in the Prestige Class associated with it, or can they get away with it through roleplay, like, say, a cleric of Iomedae who wants to be a Knight of Ozem but doesn't take levels in the actual Knight of Ozem prestige class because they don't want to lose spellcasting progression, or a Pathfinder that doesn't take levels in the Pathfinder Chronicler, Delver, Field Agent or Savant prestige classes because they're interested in a different prestige class like Arcane Archer or something?

It just feels to me like the minute an organization gets an official Prestige Class for it, you can't be a REAL member of that organization in-game without taking levels in it, that without the Prestige Class to PROVE you're in the organization, all you have is your say-so, and that negates the idea that it takes effort to join these organizations.

Does this ability have the same duration of the alter self spell? Or, since its a supernatural ability, can it be maintained indefinitely?

Thank you very much!

1) Change shape lasts until the creature decides to end the effect or use it again.

2) I have the emanation extend out beyond the creature's body by whatever range it normally extends. That does mean that the bigger a creature is, the bigger its spell effect is. Think of it as a bonus for being big to help offset the fact that you get flanked a lot easier if you want.

With the staggering amount of deities, demigods, empyreal lords, demons, devils, daemons, old ones, and generally other entities that can be worshipped and grant domains, faith in the inner sea must become rather confusing (and the Knowledge (religion) skill to boot!)

Do most common folk know about, and pay homage to these greater beings as appropriate, as is usually suggested in their entries (for example, "Soldiers of all kind, but particularly knights, pay homage to Ragathiel and pray for his virtue and strength in battle.") or is theirs a more obscure worship, not to be expected to be known by the common man?

How do the 'core 20' feel about someone paying homage to empyreal lords who are similar to them, such as Iomedae and Ragathiel, Desna and Black Butterfly? Or even multiple gods, as may be the case for someone who worships Shelyn or Calistria but pays homage to Arshea?

It's been well established that demon cultists don't typically see eye to eye, but can the average cultist be expected to be well versed in the lore and intrigues of another cult, and it's demonic patron?

It just seems like a whole lot, and with so much to choose from, that a cleric of a more obscure deific, celestial, or fiendish patron would be very rare to find, and I'd love to get your take on this!

Hello James, do followers of Sarenrae tend to cremate victims or others of their following? If not then do any other followers of the core 20 tend to do so?

Also what would be some neat ways to reward a follower of Sarenrae, namely a paladin? Maybe an extra smite evil use per day for a week? Or should it be something more permanent? The party just cleansed a shrine to Sarenrae that was defaced and used for sacrificial rituals to Urgathoa and faced a pretty nasty Mythic Skeletal Champion Cavalier with a few Mythic Skeletons that almost party wiped them. I feel like I should reward them in some special way as it was an awesome fight and everybody got really into which is rare for our group.

There's hardly more info about the deities of Golarion out there than there are cultures for Knowledge (local) to track, or more spells and magic items and magic effects for Knowledge (arcana) to track. Not seeing a problem here.

Most common folk know about the core twenty deities; those are basically a DC 10 check to know about and you can attempt that untrained. The others are shades of DC 15 to DC 20 or higher, so they're harder to know about... but in most cases not impossible. The average common folk won't know much about any of the Empyreal Lords at all... unless their worship is particularly strong in a region. In Magnimar, for example, there are several Empyreal Lords who are rather well known.

The core 20 have plenty of worshipers on Golarion and on worlds beyond. Their faiths are more concerned with who worships whom than they are, and whether a faith or a deity cares about someone worshiping someone different but similar is a regional/personal thing, not something a blanket statement can cover.

Whether or not an average cultist can be expected to be well versed? I'd say probably not, since the average cultist is probably low level and thus probably doesn't have many ranks in Knowledge (religion). He'd know a bit, but not everything. He'd mostly rely upon teachings from his cult leader. That's the point of a cult, after all... to follow and believe your leader.

If any of the core 20 religions practice cremation, it's Sarenrae. Not only does that honor the sun, but it prevents the dead from becoming UNdead.

We haven't really detailed all of the funeral practices of the various faiths as far as I know, but I could be wrong. The majority of faiths practice burial of some sort though.

Look to the boons listed for Sarenrae worshipers in Inner Sea Gods for examples of neat ways to reward a follower; give them one of those boons for free!

The director, Ti West, is a master of the "slow burn" horror. Movies that for 60 minutes just build atmosphere and character, and then in the last 30 minutes (or whatever) amp things up to be super intense. He's one of my favorite new horror directors.

He's not worshiped anywhere in a great enough extent to call out his worship on a grand or national scale. He's got small groups of worshipers spread throughout the Inner Sea region though. How far does Nethys' "all seeing eye" go towards seeing the secrets of other gods, like Asmodeus' Catafalque and Norgorber's true identity?

As for Norgorber, has he really "wiped knowledge of his past from even the memories of the other gods, becoming an enigma to all"? It seems like affecting the older gods of the multiverse would be beyond a newly ascended god.

James, you have spoken a number of times how you feel that the usage of prophecy can result in lazy storytelling. Do you feel the same way about the excessive use of good vs evil in adventure design? I personally strive to achieve complex morality in my games, but I do find it very tough to pull off. It seems the goodies vs baddies trope is very heavily embedded.

Do you have any of the new Mac Pros in your offices?

Ha. The idea of a "new computer" in the office kinda makes me laugh. ;-P

If there ARE... I'm not sure who has them. It's certainly not me!

Despite the fact that I'd seen them in print, I was totally fooled by one in Tekserve to day when I saw them live for the first time. I was admiring a 4k monitor when I started looking for the computer, not finding anything but something that looked liked an overlarge shiny pen holder. :)

Where they SHOULD be are among your graphics and heavy layout designers. What model mac DO you have? one of the later generation iMacs?

I'm not sure what types of computers they're using upstairs in the art department.

At work, I use a Mac Mini. I'm at home now on a much nicer Mac at the moment, though.

If Nethys is omniscient, what does he use burleevs (from ISG) for?

How far does Nethys' "all seeing eye" go towards seeing the secrets of other gods, like Asmodeus' Catafalque and Norgorber's true identity?

As for Norgorber, has he really "wiped knowledge of his past from even the memories of the other gods, becoming an enigma to all"? It seems like affecting the older gods of the multiverse would be beyond a newly ascended god.

ISG says "Iomedae steadfastly believes Norgorber has evaded justice for far too long, and thinks the dark god was somehow involved in the death of Aroden." What reason does she have to think this? Is she planning on acting on this at some point?

The deities are not omniscient. They're powerful, but not all-powerful. And the minions in Inner Sea Gods aren't so much for the deities to use as much as they are for worshipers to use via lesser planar ally spells.

His "all seeing eye" doesn't see all when it comes to other deities, but sees a lot. What it sees we'll reveal if and when the time is right.

And as god of secrets, Norgorber's power in that realm IS quite potent, despite the fact that he's newly ascended. Divine power is more complex than that.

As for Iomedae's reasons for believing Norgorber had something to do with Aroden's death... she hasn't revealed what she knows, which means she knows it's circumstantial at best, probably not much more than a guess or a hunch. Things like that are great elements to tie into huge campaigns or adventure path plots... for now, she's biding her time.
