How long would the fight between Rovagug and Chuck Norris last? How much would be left of Rovagug afterwards?

Rovagug would eat Chuck and absorb his powers as a swift action during the surprise round.

How much has been written (not necessarily published) about the rune goddess Lissala? Is she dead? Dormant? Ignoring Golarion in a prolonged fugue of disgust over Thassilon's perversion of her gifts?

What would it take for Golarion to gain her favor once again?

Not a lot. Bits here and there in Adventure Paths (particularly Pathifnder #1 and #10). A chunk about her in the Inner Sea World Guide. A little bit, I believe, in Gods and Magic.

But beyond that... not much. She's not a deity we've really focused on.

Yet.

The Inner Sea World Guide has a great deal of what I was looking for... Thanks for telling me where to look.

Though her favored weapon isn't named I assume it's the whip. Her figure holds whip and quill as weapons of choice and symbols of her rule, similar to Pharaoh's holding of the crook and flail...

My friends and I are planning to do Crimson Throne after we finish with the Serpent's Skull, and while preparing to do a thorough backstory I discovered a problem. I planned to make my character from the defunct house Fordyce, but while I was looking through the Guide to Korvosa (the parts that my DM lets me read anyway) I found some facts that don't add up.

Here they are:

Cousins war happened in 4502-3
House Zenderholm participated in the Cousins' war.
House Zenderholm replaced Fordyce 30 years after arrival in Korvosa as a great house.
House Fordyce became a great house after 4551 when the breaching festival granted fame and fortune to the family.
House Fordyce retained their title as a great house for a century.

The only solution anyone has come up with was that House Fordyce was a great house, became not a great house, then became a great house again, and then quit later for a total time of about a century. There would seem to be a good story for all of that. Was there something written about House Fordyce that was edited for length that would explain these facts and how they relate? Is there some other explanation?

Actually, her favored weapon is indeed named in her entry on page 235 of the Inner Sea World Guide. And it is indeed "whip."

The actual explanation is that the author messed up the timeline a little and it wasn't caught during development or editing.

House Fordyce has retained its title as a great house until the current day (about a half century), and became a great house in 4551.

Are there anymore Titans in Bestiary 3?

James Jacobs wrote:

Well... since our version of Dahak is a dragon... it seems obvious that you'd want to replace that bronze bull with a bronze dragon, and perhaps set it up so that its mouth belches fire and smoke when it's doing its thing.

It should also be animated, of course.

Animated, eh? That could conjure up frightening enough an image for a theocracy to keep commoners in line. Thanks.

I'm sorry, I am still slightly confused.

So, House Fordyce is still a great house (157 years later?), and House Zenderholm didn't replace them after all?

Volcanoes and flood plains have all the fertile ground? Subduction trenches have all the good fishing? Desert sh*tholes have all the unclaimed land?

There are stupider reasons, sure. There's a legal battle within walking distance of me between a guy who want solar panels so he can have electricity and everyone else who claims they have a legal right to a pretty view that solar panel guy is infringing on. And then there'll be a rainstorm and all their houses will fall into the ocean.

ON the first part... To a large degree yes. It's generally active geology that makes for sea bays protected from weather and the fields of volcanoes like Mt. Etna are among the most fertile on the continent. Without active geology, Earth would become Mars which has no plate activity at all. Earth will become mars after it's core cools enough to the point where it can no longer generate this activity, say about one or two billion years from now.

To the second part.... it's all about property values. People buy houses an the assumption that they'll flip them for a better price when they move on.

How much damage would a shield with the following properties do if used to perform a shield bash?

+1 Heavy Steel Bashing shield, with a +1 Holy Shield Spike (sized medium)

Honestly, I'd have to dig deep into the Korvosa book to untangle exactly what it is that's confusing you—and I don't really have time to do that right now that I'm getting "Dragon Empires Gazetteer" ready for layout.

In any case, the way you phrased your question obviously confused me. I'd have to read through the book to remind myself of which house is SUPPOSED to be around today—neither of those two houses played big roles in Crimson Throne, and so they're pretty background in my own mind as far as Varisia overall is concerned.

Looking a bit more closely, it does indeed seem to be the intent that Zenderholm replaced Frodyce, though.

You get to choose—either bash or spike. Only one works at a time.

It'd be like welding a dagger to your sword's pommel. If you stab with a sword, you're not using the dagger. And it's kinda silly looking. AKA: Don't do it—just enhance the bashing quality or ignore the bashing bit and just focus on the spike.

Dear James Jacobs,

If a Cleric takes levels in a class such as Holy Vindicator, does the Cleric also gain their Domain spell slots, based on their effective caster level between the two classes?

Yes. She doesn't gain domain abilities beyond what her actual cleric level grants, but she does gain access to the bonus spells her domains grant.

3)What about a half elemtal template or elemtal themed templates that are as powerful as celestial/fiendish templates in the beastairy 3?

5)If you explode from the effects of the positive energy plane what happens to your equipment?

6)Would you allow a playable race that had a limited versions of tremor sense(10'radius) or blindsense(5'radius)? what about the old infravision? or scent?

7)Any monster movies that scared you as a kid?

It's not a monster movie, but Jumanji came out when I was five, and I swear that movie came close to killing any hope of me becoming a Tabletop Gamer. I was convinced that if I played the board game, I would get sucked into the game until I became as old as Robin Williams ....

So basically, what happened to me with D&D and what will happen to me with Pathfinder xD.

1) Yes.

2) 4 Medium, 1 Small.

3) Meh; I'm not too interested in template overload. What most folks feel about prestige classes at the end of the 3.5 era, I feel that way toward templates.

4) Because not everything in the game needs to have opposites. Sometimes, the fact that there aren't opposites is more interesting.

5) It floats away in random directions from where you were when you blew up... IF it doesn't get destroyed by you blowing up. Kind of like a spacesuit dude blowing up with a grenade in outer space, I guess?

6) Nope; tremorsense and blindesense are too powerful for a PC race to get at 1st level. Old infravision, sure (although there's too many complications with infravision... darkvision is more elegant). And scent, yes.

7) Lots of them. I kind of liked being scared, though.

8) You do gain the benefits of the elemental subtype, and don't get to use your gear in this form since it all merges with your new form. Essentially, you trade in pretty much all your other options to do just the stuff the energy body lets you do for a few rounds per day.

9) Yup. Quite a few.

10) None that come to mind.

Ok, I actually posted this over at the Dragon EMpires Gazeteer discussion by accident... Might see if you can alert the webmaster(s) to maybe delete that post and the answers if they want to clear it up.

I have a friend who can sometimes be... overly zealous... about game balance that he will debate to high heaven a rule that he thinks is unbalanced and I find myself unable to argue because I am not the game developer that wrote that rule... It's not QUITE as bad in Pathfinder as it was in D&D 3.5, but it happens...

Case in point, he insists that the Halfling Jinx racial trait in Halflings of Golarion is unbalanced and way too powerful. So, now I am curious... What should I tell him? Is he right? Is it unbalanced? What was your design team's thoughts when they designed that alternate racial trait to make sure it's not totally overpowering as he thinks it is?

Some folks like arguing rules more than they like playing games. I tend to leave games they dominate or ask them to leave games I'm running.

That said... the whole set of Halfling Jinx feats and trait are, like MANY things we publish, as much as an experiment as anything else. The game stagnates and grows dull if we don't push boundaries and explore different types of options.

Halfling Jinx is certainly a DIFFERENT option, and lots of folks seem to confuse "different" with "overpowered" in my experience.

The ability to grant a -1 penalty on saving throws on a single target at a time is hardly game breaking—remember that the halfling can only have one jinx affecting one person at a time, and if the target makes the save, he's immune to the halfling's jinxees for 24 hours. And if the halfling even TRIES to put a jinx on a 2nd target (doesn't matter if the 2nd target makes his save or not), the jinx on the first target ends.

Hardly seems overpowered to me, unless you go against the flavor of the rules and assume that the effects of multiple jinxes from different halflings would stack—they shouldn't (although the text isn't totally clear on that at all, alas).

Anyway... I'm not seeing what the big deal is in this case.

Game balance is subjective. What is good for one group is bad for another. Tell your friend to prove it is to good for anyone to allow, and then you will agree with him. If he post a point bring his point here. You know how much people here love to debate and bring it back to him, or have him come here himself. That way he can talk to the board, and you won't have to debate with him if you dont want to. :)

1) Doubtful.

2) If the GM says you can.

3) No, but there were plenty musicals that bored me as a kid.

4) Yes—there's a new Small race coming in Dragon Empires, in fact. A tiny playable race is too powerful. Maybe not for a barbarian, but a tiny sorcerer or a tiny bard would be ruinous in similar ways that a Large barbarian or a Large fighter would be. Furthermore, the game world just isn't built for characters that are that far from the human shape and size.

5) No additional hags in Bestiary 3 beyond the annis. As for the other... you might want to check out the upcoming "Mythological Monsters Revisited" book.

6) I haven't looked through the book yet so I can't say.

7) Nope; medusas are always female. Yes. Probably not. Probably some day.

8) Not yet.

9) Geryon's in Pathfinder already. He's one of the archdevils—see Inner Sea World Guide or Book of the Damned 1. The others? Not yet, but maybe some day.

10) Yup.

Ok, so we were looking at the Sin Eater Inquisitor Archetype and we noticed that by the time you get Burden of Sin, you can already remove most of the things it would allow you to take on. So, what use is this power? Why would a Sin Eater take a curse onto himself when he could just cast Remove Curse or Break Enchantment (which you get 1 level before Burden of Sin)? Do you get a save vs. the spell or such? What if you are immune to the effect you are taking on (another power for another class says it has no effect if you are immune, Burden of Sin does not)?

Because you don't always have a remove curse or break enchantment handy.

If you're immune to the effect you're taking on, you can still take on that effect—it just doesn't work on you.

Ok so then with the Empathic Healing power of the Hedge Witch, if she's immune to disease can she still heal diseases with it? Because "If you are immune to disease this power has no effect." SEEMS to me to say a witch immune to disease can't use the power at all, but I could be reading it wrong. The reason I am specifically asking again is because the witch power says this, the inquisitor power does not.

The empathic healing power of the hedge witch is not the sin eater's burden of sin power.

Something being true for "item A" doesn't mean it's true for "spell 4," in other words, even if they're similar.

A witch that is immune to disease cannot use empathic healing to remove a disease.

Notice Mr. Jacobs' tag? He's the creative director. If you want to ask him a question about the Golarion campaign setting, he's usually good for an answer. When you start asking him too many crunchy questions like this, then you're less likely to get an answer. How should he know? He's not James B. or Sean. They're the Game Mechanics guys, not James Jacobs. Or worse, he could stop gracing us with his presence in this thread! 0_0

Now, to answer your question for you.

#1 - Using Burden of Sin is a full-round action. Using Break Enchantment takes 1 minute. In order words, Burden of Sin can be used in combat to essentially save a member of the party that is more vital to success than himself or herself. For example, if the party Cleric gets petrified and everyone is dying, the Inquisitor can take on the petrification themselves , freeing the Cleric to be able to heal and simply restore the inquisitor after the combat has ended.

#2 - Since the Inquisitor has a set number of spells known, this ability essentially means that he or she does not have to take any of the spells that cure conditions, such as (but not limited to) Remove Paralysis, Remove Disease, Neutralize Poison, Flesh to Stone, Break Enchantment, etc.

#3 - Again, sometimes it is simply easier to transfer such an infliction to someone better prepared to handle it; for example, if you transfer a poison or disease from a character with a poor Fortitude save (think Sorcerer / Wizard / Rogue) to an Inquisitor with a good Fortitude save and possibly a high Constitution. Heck, make it a Dwarven Inquisitor with a racial bonus against poisons! The dwarf will probably save against the ability anyway.

#4 - Contingency Bot. By the time your Inquisitor gets Burden of Sin, both Wizards and Sorcerers have contingency. Every day, have a Wizard / Sorcerer with Contingency and Break Enchantment cast Contingency (break enchantment) on the Inquisitor and state that you want contingency to trigger whenever the wizard, the inquisitor, or another party member speaks a specific, key word or phrase. Then, in combat, the Inquisitor can take status conditions onto himself; even highly damaging ones such as petrification, and all the newly restored person has to do is speak the key word to trigger the spell. Essentially, you can make sure that you make contingency more effective by guaranteeing exactly who will be affected by a damaging condition in combat. Now, combine this with a high Constitution Dwarf like I mentioned earlier ....

It may not be the best ability in the universe, but it certainly isn't the worst you could take. Essentially, the idea is to take conditions that are detrimental to one character but not detrimental to the Inquisitor

Notice Mr. Jacobs' tag? He's the creative director. If you want to ask him a question about the Golarion campaign setting, he's usually good for an answer. When you start asking him too many crunchy questions like this, then you're less likely to get a good answer. How should he know? He's not James B. or Sean. They're the Game Mechanics guys, not James Jacobs.

That said... I like to think that I'm pretty qualified to answer those questions anyway. I may be the Creative Director, but I've designed a LOT of rules crunch for Paizo, and I've developed a LOT of those same rules for us as well. And I'm not sure what to think of the implication that, while I'm not qualified to answer that question, you are.

Also... what happened to point #3? WE NEED ERATTA FOR YOUR ANSWER!!! :-)

I believe this should be marked for the FAQ!

I hope I didn't make it sound like I didn't think you were qualified. Lord knows I've asked my fair share of crunchy questions in this thread. I just think it's like asking President Obama (you) why the Congress (James B. and Sean) won't pass a bill. He's plenty qualified to tell them his interpretation, and being a profession, he's probably right. However, in the long run, he's not each and every one of those Congressmen, and if you wanted a more from-the-mouth-of-god answer, you'd ask each and every Congressmen instead.

And oh noes?! Slenderman must have eaten it. Errata issued. At least it wasn't an errata for a 295-pg. book!

With a new season of TV starting over the next few weeks, what new shows are you looking forward to watching (beyond Terra Nova obviously - it has dinosaurs).

Also what returning shows are you looking forward to?

The empathic healing power of the hedge witch is not the sin eater's burden of sin power.

Something being true for "item A" doesn't mean it's true for "spell 4," in other words, even if they're similar.

A witch that is immune to disease cannot use empathic healing to remove a disease.

Ok, yeah I didn't think they were the same, just was wondering if I was reading that caveat in the Hedge Witch properly. Kinda another question that the other made me recall I wanted to ask.

what do you think of LN fey? why are most fey either CG or CE? will paizo ever publish a "rater R" book? hows the revamp of RotRL going?

Given I am LE does tax preparation sound like a good short-term career choice for me?

Terra Nova's certainly at the #1 position, but I'm also quite looking forward to the new season of Boardwalk Empire, and also whenever they launch the next season of Mythbusters and Dual Survival and Deadliest Catch and Walking Dead all the other cool cable shows.

Most fey are chaotic because they're tricksy, capricious, and/or kind of crazy. That said, there can certainly be fey of any alignment.

We've done several "rated R" books already—the books of the damned are pretty edgy and filled with some grisly stuff. And the Adventure Paths periodically go into the R-rated content. We just don't particularly market the books that way is all.

Revamp of Runelords is more or less on hold—got a lot of early work done, but now it's all about getting Dragon Empires off the ground. Finally.

Yes.

Not a lot of spiders involved in taxes either, so that's a win-win for you.
