Hi James, I have searched through the FAQ and messageboards before asking this question, but can find no answer, soooo......if a creature with spell resistance walks into an area protected by a forbiddance spell, would the forbiddance spell have to overcome the creature's spell resistance in order to prevent it using dimension door (a spell-like ability) within the area of the forbiddance spell - or does spell resistance only stop the damage element of the forbiddance spell on entering the area protected?

Example, a mercane enters an area protected by a forbiddance spell. I appreciate that the mercane's SR20 would apply to any damage which might result from crossing into the area of the fobiddance spell, but once the mercane was inside the area, would its SR also apply if the mercane decided to use its spell-like abilities to dimension door or plane shift.

Reading the rules, I get the sense that SR prevents spells which target the creature with the SR, but that it would NOT apply to the creature trying to use one of its own spells or spell-like abilities if another spell prevented the use of that spell/spell-like ability. In other words the forbiddance isn't targeting the mercane, its targeting the mercane's spell-like ability

SR has always confused me, I guess what I'm asking is does it (1) just apply to spells that target and directly affect the mind/body of the creature with SR or (2) act as a sort of "antimagic field" where no spells work (unless they overcome the SR) with respect to the creature with SR.

SR does not act as an "antimagic field." It only ONLY functions against spells that target and directly affect the mind and body of the creature. A creature with SR would get to enjoy those benefits agains the damage caused by the spell, in other words, but would not get to teleport in and out of the area.
Why does Dimensional Lock specify "spell resistance: yes"? I understand for Dimensional Anchor, which is targeted,...

My guess? It's' an error. Post that question in the rules forums and get it FAQed. And I kinda think forbiddance might be in the same category...

. . . And, if your eventual goal was to get your hand back, you'd probably enjoy it if the GM reintroduced your had as an artifact level magic item for the party to fight over like in The Hand of Vectra! episode of KoDT, right? ;)

Just a question i feel that havent been properly answered or i havent found the actual answer for:

- Does spells taken from the Cleric/Oracle list with Wisdom translate to Charisma for an Oracle?

Regardless of your answer i would like a bit of insight to why thats the case, i quite like the insight of the design thought process.

( A spell of example of this case would be Holy Ice )

Nope. Some spells on that list work better for clerics as a result. The reason is because not every spell needs to be equally good for every person. There could some day be spells that work better for oracles, for example.

Well, nothing like a Channel Vigor and Divine Favor cannot fix. ( For that spell at least )

Still, whats your thought that most GMs choose to houserule Oracles to instead use Charisma for these spells?

GMs should houserule as they see fit. That's fine with me.

Hi, James!

Cambion as presented in The Midnight Isles are described in the text as having cloven hooves for feet (like their incubi fathers), but the artwork shows them with humanoid legs (like their mothers). Which one is intended?

Also, do incubi have tails like succubi?

Thanks!

They were SUPPOSED to have cloven hooves for feet, but then we forgot to tell the artist and by the time the art came in, forgot we forgot. We should have changed the text to say they have normal people feet.

Incubi don't have tails.

Not always, but yes, the zeitgeist of the times informs and inspires us as much as it inspires and informs anyone who works in the fantasy genre, be it video games or novels or comics or movies.
So given the popularity of Game of Thrones right now, might we soon get a Brevoy AP or other support :) ?
Probably not... but there's plenty of places other than Brevoy that lend themselves well to political intrigue.

Besides, you already DID a Brevoy AP. Kingmaker. Which is all kinds of awesomesausages. It was the AP that REALLY got me into Golarion!

How would you play someone with only one hand? Obviously you could only use one-handed weapons, but I'm not sure what else would happen.

Meh... Kingmaker is no more a Brevoy AP than Council of Thieves is a NIdal AP. There's a LOT more that we could do in a Brevoy AP that we haven't touched yet.

I would probably play a one-handed character as someone who has an eventual goal to get his/her hand back.

After killing someone's wife and framing her husband for the crime? :)

No there hasn't, it's not something likely to happen, given that they have a rather full plate. It's not what would be considered a trivial task.

Since you guys apparently contracted Mikaze to write parts of the Belkzen book, doest it mean that I start mulling over a tribe of CG orcs where same-sex inter-racial marriages are kosher?

Hi James,

So reading your thread today got me thinking. As the Campaign Setting Guru/Overlord, has it become increasingly difficult to manage canon? With Every release you add more and more new material, and sometimes there is a bit about this information in this release, a bit more there, etc.

Do you guys have some sort of canon bible you use to keep things consistent? Or some other database? Or is it just that down to memorizing what stuff is where when you or your minions need it? Or has this just not really become an issue yet?

The hiring of one author should not be taken as a hint that we're drastically changing the way we've portrayed orcs for the past decade. It should be taken as us knowing a person is passionate about a subject and wanting to try that author out on a subject they are interested in. We'll see where things go from there.

It has indeed become increasingly difficult to manage canon. In that "managing canon" is not really my job. It's ALL of our jobs here at Paizo. One person can't really do the whole thing on their own. A part of my is not to manage canon, but to SET canon and to advise and train folks (authors, employees, licensors, etc.) on how to do the same.

When I start a brand new product, one of my first steps is to do global searches for terms in all of our books. For example, when I started Wrath of the Righteous, I searched every book we published for terms like "Worldwound" and "Deskari" and "Demon" and the like.

Not to mention confusing.

What happens if a giant (any kind) and a human/elf/etc. attempt a relationship?

Hello James,

When I use Mounted Mastery(cavalier) ability to add my animal's companion strength in addition to my own to the damage, do I multiply the total for (x1.5) if I'm using a two handed weapon?

for example: My cavalier's strength is 18(4) and my animal's companion strength is 22(6), do I add it all together and multiply the result for x1.5 if I'm wielding a two handed weapon? 6 + 4 = 10 + x1.5 = 15?

Mounted Mastery (Ex)

At 8th level, the cavalier ignores the armor check penalty when using the Ride skill, regardless of whether or not the creature he is riding is his mount. Whenever he makes a charge attack while mounted, he receives a +4 dodge bonus to his AC to avoid attacks set against his charge. When making such an attack, he can add his mount’s Strength modifier to the damage roll, in addition to his own.

Blog Post?

Not a great idea, for 3 reasons:

1) It's actually weirdly difficult to pull off game content in blog posts.

2) Mostly because we're hesitant about how that kinda makes the blog posts hard to track, and also because it wreaks havoc with PFS.

3) We barely have time to get our print products designed and edited these days, it feels like, and as such I'm really hesitant and gunshy about saying something to the effect of "stay TWO days over the weekend at work so that we can increase the workload to get a blogpost up." That's an over-exaggeration, of course, but not by as much as you might expect.

I would think you'd ad x1.0 your mount's strength, mostly because mounted combat is good enough already. Don't go pulling that in PFS without getting it officially looked at and FAQed though!

No James, I will just use this exactly the way you said in our home pathfinder advanture.

One more question tho, Raging Brutality feat at the end of the description says that it dosen't multiply on a ''critical hit'' but does this include multiplying on a mounted spirited charge (lance x3)? or does it multiply on spirited charge?

Don't hate me for making many questions James! :p lol

Raging Brutality

You expend some of your rage to strike your opponents with a more powerful weapon blow.

Prerequisite: Str 13, rage class feature, Power Attack, base attack bonus +12.

Benefit: While raging and using Power Attack, you can spend 3 additional rounds of your rage as a swift action to add your Constitution bonus on damage rolls for melee attacks or thrown weapon attacks you make on your turn. If you are using the weapon two-handed, instead add 1-1/2 times your Constitution bonus. This bonus damage is not multiplied on a critical hit.

While a mounted charge with a lance isn't a critical hit... it's still a damage multiplier like a crit. So for the same reasons we limit this feat to not working with a crit, you should not allow it to work on a lance charge.

Mistah James Jacobs, I have a question regarding the Mythic Path Ability Shapeshifting Mastery for the Archmage. The ability reads:

Quote:

Shapeshifting Mastery (Ex)

Your ability to magically adopt other forms is unparalleled, and you can expertly translate your arcane might into brawn. You add half your tier to the caster level of spells or extracts from the polymorph subschool. While under the effects of a spell or extract of the polymorph subschool, you can use your caster level instead of your base attack bonus when making natural attacks that rely on your new form.

How would this apply, if at all to the Wildshape ability of Druids?

or is this trait bound to blood (not customs) which makes it uneligible to pick with the Adopted trait ?

Adopted

You were adopted and raised by someone not of your race, and raised in a society not your own.

Benefit: As a result, you picked up a race trait from your adoptive parents and society, and may immediately select a race trait from your adoptive parents' race.

------------------------

Tiger's Claw

Your feline agility helps you inflict a devastating blow at the end of a charge.

Prerequisite(s): Weretiger or Weretiger-kin(Skinwalker)

Benefit(s) Whenever you use the charge action, you gain a +1 trait bonus on your weapon damage roll.

Care to explain what happened or why for either of those places?

Not sure why that would matter... but...

Just that the basic themes of Andoran seemed kinda dull to me at first but it grew on me... and the direction some of our authors took Taldor doesn't appeal to me and kinda went in the wrong way for Golarion, and that's something I've been massaging back into place for a few years now.
