Hello again,

Just to clear up a point of personal confusion... when Aroden raised the Starstone (and the Isle of Kortos too?), was the Starstone already sitting there/nearby on the sea floor? Or did he transport it from some other original Golarion location?

Thanks and happy New Year/vacation :)

We do a bit with frost giants in the module "Witchwar Legacy."

On Golarion, giants have a small pantheon of deities. A significant amount of the world's frost giants actually worship the demon lord Kostchtchie, and I suspect quite a few fire giants worship arch devils. Gods and Magic has more details about the giant gods, though.

Oh! Monte Cook's adventure we published also has a significant amount of giant stuff in it.

What was the name of Monte Cook's adventure? I may have it if it's in the modules line.

James,

If a swarm creature has the ability to smite good can it use it on all good creatures that it can engulf in its initial attack? Does this seem like overkill to you?

Swarm damage is a weird case; swarm damage doesn't make attack rolls to hit, for one, and that's one of the main ways smite helps an attack. I'd say that swarm damage and smite don't really work together... if you want them to, then in order for a swarm to smite every legal target it's swarming over, it'd have to be able to make multiple smites in a day for sure. A fiendish swarm with this in effect would only be able to smite one creature it's swarming over.

Gearsmen are robots, but since no one in Golarion's ever heard the word "robot" before, they made up a new word for these guys.

There are no warforged in Golarion, in any event.

There are plenty of things Paizo has re-made that Wizards created non-open rules for. Going back to mythology has always been a good enough reason before.

I have no problem with you not having enough room in the Core books or the new World Guide to detail a moon domain. I just think there are a fair number of us who feel it is important enough to be included in the game at some point. I love reading about Golarion but many of us run games in homebrew worlds. Mine certainly has a moon domain, among others, that aren't in the core rules. Ultimate Magic might be a good spot for it, if there is time to squeeze it in. If not, perhaps when you do the Asian inspired world book.

Anyway, all I'm saying is leave the door open to put it in later. I'd rather you said it wasn't on the schedule and you have no current plans than "we don't want to step on Wizard's toes".

At this point, introducing a Moon domain would disrupt things too much. I could see giving the Moon domain to Desna for sure, and probably also to Gozreh and Lamashtu and maybe even Zon-Kuthon.

But we've also got things set up so ALL of the deities have 5 domains. None of them have 6. So giving any of them a Moon domain means we'd have to remove one that's already established.

In another thread, I revealed that we removed Ydersius's Animal domain and replaced it with the Serpentfolk domain. I figured that this would be mostly okay, since Ydersius is a pretty obscure deity and one that in the majority of cases is a badguy deity and NOT a PC deity... yet it didn't take long at all for a Pathfinder Society player to notice this and get angry, because that change means that his Ydersius-worshiping character needs to be rebuilt, and in so doing he'd lose some of the flavor he'd come to enjoy for his character.

That was for a pretty obscure deity. Changing the domains for one of the most well-detailed and established deities in our setting (Desna) would wreak a LOT more havoc. Not something I want to do.

An option would be to provide a Moon domain but NOT give it to any Golarion deities... but that's kind of weird to us. Creating new rules content that we don't use in Golarion... particularly if the new rules content is closely tied to world flavor (such as domains are) is even weirder.

There's lots of reasons why we didn't build a Moon domain at the start, and there's a lot of NEW reasons why we aren't going to do so now. Golarion doesn't really need a Moon domain, and introducing it (or many other domains) would be more disruptive than fun.

So, if anyone else was wondering about the Moon domain absence, there it is... :)

1) Tradition. I'd rather call it the Universe, but that's weird on one level since the universe is so big, it's bizarre calling something that fits inside of most of the other planes of existence the Universe.

2) Try something nice and big and destructive, like THIS!

And then when the encounter's over, you can play THIS!

Saw "Tron Legacy"; fun movie! Neat effects! Has some weird/lazy/confusing writing here and there, but not nearly enough to lessen the fun... although the 3D stuff was kind of annoying in that it made the film too dark and muddy looking.

Hmmm. They're an error.

The fireblast rod was an item that ended up getting cut from the book because it was really pretty silly and unnecessary... alas, it got cut after the back cover text was written and apparently no one noticed it was still on the back cover. When the book gets reprinted, the mention of fireblast rods on the back cover will be replaced by something that IS in the book.

That's kind of a trick question, since by the time I'm done working on a project and it's off to the printer, I'm kind of sick of it and can certainly wait to see it come out. The projects that I'm really eager to see out are more or less all projects we haven't yet announced, so I can't really mention them.

One of my favorite issues of Dragon was the issue dealing with astrology, along with articles on the sun and moon.

Would it be possible for there to be a Golarion version of this? Are there constellations in Golarion to which an astrological connection can be made?

In a post above, you were quoted as saying a Moon domain wouldn't ever really be created because it would cause to much aggravation with having to re-do other(Desna specifically) deities domains? well, what about doing a Moon domain for a peoples who worship the moon itself? tie it into lycanthropy somehow?

Astrology will probably play a role in the upcoming Jade Regent adventure path. No guarentee... but keep an eye out there! There are certainly constellations above Golarion; we listed them already, in fact, back in Pathfinder #14's article about outer space.

As for the moon domain... we already have deities associated with the moon and deities associated with lycanthorpy. That doesn't necessarily mean we HAVE to have a moon domain. After all... we don't have a Birth domain, yet we have a goddess of birth. We don't have a Dream domain, but we have a goddess of dreams. We don't have a Cities domain, and yet we have a god of the city.

Domains aren't supposed to be tailor-made for deities, in other words. They're supposed to cover a wide range of possibilities, but not EVERY possibility. There is, in other words, such a thing as TOO many domains, and I think Pathfinder already pushes that limit.

Hello James,

You often use Tome of Horrors and Advanced Bestiary monsters in the AP's. Problem is, the description is sometimes rather short. For other monsters I can alwaysys use descriptions and/or pics from Bestiary, Monster Manuals (or for myth-creatures from a Google search) but for the two sources above it is sometimes: “you fight...some....monster-thingy”.
Pics of a Troll I can find everywhere but things like the tentamort from RotRL 1 are hard to imagine.

Would you think about the following:
Plan A:
giving ToH and AB monsters the highest prio for art in AP's?
or Plan B:
The read out texts for rooms are sometimes really long and extensive, but the monsters in the room don't get read-aloud text, sometimes the descriptions are really short, would you consider forcing your Writers to add at least two sentences of Description to every NPC/monster?

Another question:
Carrion Crown will feature the first all-girl party, could we get one Adventure as a swimsuit edition? Pretty please?
I imagine the 3 white-hairs bursting through a dungeon door in the iconic Charlie's Angels pose wearing bikinis with Seelah standing on the side with full-plate and a disapproving look holding up a manual about proper protection :-)

When we use monsters from non-core books, we generally do try to provide a description of the monster. There's never enough room to provide a LOT of description, though, and in those cases, we try to have artwork of the monster. Sometimes, neither solution is viable, and that's when we have to rely upon the creativity of the GM to fill in the blanks. As for the tentamort... he now lives in the Bestiary 2, so that problem's more or less solved.

As for read aloud texts... we NEVER include monster descriptions in there. Doing so not only bloats the length of those texts (and despite what some GMs might think, listening to the GM read text is almost NEVER as fun as listening to the GM actually run the game, so we do our best to keep those texts short as possible), but also causes more problems than it solves, especially since the way monsters react to the approach of a group of PCs is different depending upon their stealth, their previous interactions with the dungeon, their direction, their own powers of observation, the time of day, etc. Too many variables; by putting monsters directly into the read-aloud text, we limit what the monsters are doing in the room if the GM is doing the normal thing and just reading the text aloud. I know I've run afoul of that trap before—accidentally revealing monster info about a room because it was "hidden" in the read-aloud text.

If we do a swimsuit edition of our iconics, we wouldn't limit the art to the girls.

Yes... but not yet for Pathfinder in any core books.

Getting a character pregnant in an RPG is beyond the limit of many gamers' level of comfort, but that said, it can also be a REALLY fun way to expand a character's story. One of my characters got pregnant in a campaign Julia Martin was running for a bunch of us back in my WotC days, and that brought a whole new interesting level of mayhem to the table, that's for sure.

As for the exact rules for it... Julia used some homebrew rules for how it all worked. That's my preferred solution.

The Kings Speech is probably the movie I enjoyed the most this year, so full of quality acting and great writing.

I just wish that when they make scifi movies that they could approach the acting and the writing with the idea that a good scifi movie needs more than special effects and that a well acted and well developed script would produce the types of classics that are loved forever.

Tom is still researching this complex and important subject, but here's a short list of things that Tom has found are particularly effective at bribing and/or enticing the boss:

1) Pictures of Merisiel.
2) Anything HP Lovecraft related.
3) Kind words about stuff he wrote.
4) Cute lizard pictures.
5) Dinosaurs, particularly bits of breaking news he might not have noticed (this is not as easy as it sounds, though, because he has a pretty reliable network of informants in this area).

As for Carrion Crown... there'll be tengu NPCs. Not necessarily in load-bearing roles, but they'll be represented, particularly toward the last half of the AP.

Dragons will play a role in Jade Regent... although not necessarily as villains.

If you're looking for dragons as villains, maybe look toward the AP that's coming AFTER Jade Regent. And yes, that's the first AP #10 hint I believe I've given out. And since it's still months early to be properly hinting about AP #10... it's still subject to being proven inaccurate in 5 months or so...
