There isn't one "most dangerous danger" in Golarion. There's a lot of ties for that position. By making these dangers numerous and more or less equally deadly and dangerous, we can do multiple Adventure Paths and not have to worry about doing one that will make every one that follows anticlimactic.

So...which threat seems the scariest to you, personally? Which one would frighten you the most if they were to TAKE OVER THE WORLD?

2) Are the bestiary stat blocks representative of new born demons? How much time passes between a demon getting spit out of the Abyss's fabric and the demon being fully functional?

3) Are demons actually born with their ranks of knowledge skills, etc., or do they normally need to spend some time learning how to do stuff?

4) If they don't need to spend any time "training" per se, is it correct to assume that the Abyss itself is imparting knowledge to its new born demons?

5) Do demon lords have any real capacity to single out and reward favored servants who've died and passed on to their realm? The Abyss seems to go much further than any other plane in stripping out the individuality of its petitioners.

6) Sifkesh devours the souls those she drives to heresy and suicide. Is she managing to grab the soul and eat it before it ever becomes a petitioner?

7) Do souls have to go through judgment at the Boneyard in order to become petitioners?

8) Do souls normally have to become petitioners before they can become the various exemplar outsider races?

Edit: Mr. Jacobs made 5 posts in the time it took me to write that. Heh.

Extra question:

9) What's your approximate words per minute when typing, if you can estimate?

1) Normally, they do not remember their time as a larva.

2) Yes. A "new born demon" is a fully formed and "adult" creature, as detailed in the bestiaries. No time at all passes between "birth" and "adulthood."

3) They're born with them.

4) Yes.

5) Absolutely.

6) Sometimes, yes.

7) Yes.

8) Yes.

9) Last time I checked was about 15 years ago, and it was about 80 words per minute. I suspect I might be a little higher than that by now.

EDIT: Just took an online wpm typing test, and I got 89 words per minute with 100% accuracy. So yeah, I did get better. :-P

Hey James,

After reading Dragons Unleashed, I've noticed that there are some dragons in the book who with only a few class levels are almost as powerful as Demigods (one is CR 25). Though they are at their maximum age, there are several ways that these creatures could become even more powerful. Becoming a Ravener seems to be one favorite method for especially evil dragons.

I'm betting this will at least be partly answered in one of the mythic books, but I'm pretty curious about this. At some point should creatures that reach a certain CR simply gain mythic powers through their sheer awesomeness? What I've read about the mythic rules so far makes it seem like it would be odd for anything to be above CR 25 without having some sort of mythic power.

CR 30 is our current cap for monster power. We could go higher, sure, but beyond CR 30 the current character level/mythic tier cap makes monsters of that power increasingly pointless to stat up.

A monster can reach CR 30 by utilizing mythic stuff or not, as the designer of the monster sees fit. Neither option is inherently better than the other.

Hello Mr Jacobs I recently watched the lost room again (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0830361) and I would really like to run something like this for my players. Is there anything in your extensive GMing that could be adapted or currently on use or should I just score something oft own to fit. This, in my humble opinion was one of the best exports from the US to date.

James,

You say the cap for CR monsters is 30. Should it not be 35? The maximum cap was 25 (Treerazer etc) pre-mythic. Should it not be raised by 10 like PC levels are effectively raised by 10? What was the reason for the maximum being 30 instead of 35? Of course, anything above 35 is ridiculous.

Can we have cryptic hints for the 2014 AP's? Paizo con is in 2 days and gen-con is next month

I believe that after the Beta, it was determined that Mythic Tiers are worth half a level. 10 Mythic tiers raise your CR by 5 levels.

That sounds honestly a lot more workable, yeah. Is there ever any chance of the firearms rules getting some kind of revision? Guns just trumping monsters as well feels somewhat off.

If by some freak turn of events Pathfinder ever does a more technologically advanced setting or set or rules or campaign area or what have you, something in the rules to compensate for how good guns ultimately get once they start to proliferate and become both common and more advanced would be nice.

A revision to how guns work in this edition of Pathfinder is highly unlikely... but Jason's in a game I run where Rob's character regularly does over 100 points of damage in a round with guns, so who can say?

If we do a new setting/ruleset for a more modern or sci fi genre, that would be a place to adjust how guns or touch AC or both work as well.

It has made me mildly dread the "the party goes to Alkenstar" module mind you, since by my understanding guns are more common/advanced there. Unless I'm off about that one and the place still works like the rest of Golarion as regards firearms.

Because a 20th level tier 10 character is a CR 25 threat, and we wanted to set the monster cap at +5 CR from that cap.

And no cryptic hints for 2014's first AP. Paizocon is in 2 days, and you'll get some hints then.

Hi James. Is the failure of prophecy a well known fact?

I'm wondering whether playing a charlatan fortune teller would be harder in golarion than it is in the real world.

Regarding the beast-bonded witch archetype and the twin soul ability, under what conditions could I retake my body?

Say I leave my body at 0 hp and it then becomes damaged to the point of negative my constitution score (or lower). Could I heal the body and enter it again? Or would I need to resort to other spells such as restoration, reincarnation, or resurrection?

Twin soul(su):
:At 10th-level, if the witch or her familiar is gravely injured or about to die, the soul of the dying one immediately transfers to the other's body. The two souls share the surviving body peaceably, can communicate freely, and both retain their ability to think and reason. The host may allow the guest soul to take over the body temporarily or reclaim it as a move action. They can persist in this state indefinitely, or the guest can return to its own body (if available) by touch, transfer into a suitable vessel (such as a clone), or take over another body as if using magic jar (with no receptacle). This replaces the witch's major hex at 10th-level.

In general would you allow feats that add Str bonus such as Dragon Ferocity to be interchangeable with Dex if the PC had Agile enchantment? Or would that be a case by case issue for the rules forum?

Dragon Ferocity:
While using Dragon Style, you gain a bonus on unarmed strike damage rolls equal to half your Strength bonus. When you score a critical hit or a successful Stunning Fist attempt against an opponent while using this style, that opponent is also shaken for a number of rounds equal to 1d4 + your Strength bonus.

Androids count as both humanoid and construct for things that target type. What were you thinking about the subtype for humanoid since things like favored enemy require one? Or, were you just thinking generically and they count as any/all humanoids? I ask as the ranger class gives specific subtypes and android, of course, is not on that list.

You've mentioned before that a setting is made by what isn't there... What are the purposefully absent things in Golarion?

Conversely, what do you think makes Golarion interesting?

James,

Nex is described as a land who pursues and investigates magic without prejudice and preconceived notions. But it has been also a historical rival of the Necromantic kingdom of Geb.

With that in mind:

1) What would the arclords of Nex feel about one of their peers pursuing immortality through undeath (e.g. lichdom)?

2) How much of a secret is the knowledge required to acquire the feat eye of the arclord (inner sea guide pg. 286)? Is it a well guarded secret? Would the arclords teach it to outsiders (such as a paying student from a different nation)?

3) Assuming the third eye was something Nex (the archmage) developed, I imagine that another powerful wizard could (in theory at least) acquire something similar if exposed to similar knowledge. How do you feel about a variant "eye of the arclord" power granted through an arcane discovery (from ultimate magic)? My idea is renegade wizard who "stole" the secret of the eye, but developed different powers (with more of an evil bent to it).

As usual thank you for your time (hope you are enjoying PaizoCon)!

James, I have a question: if I raise the dc by 5 points when I craft a magic item, can I create 2000 gp per day? I found nothing against it in the rules.

If you have say Spell Perfection(Shadow Weapon) and you make a longsword with it. Let's say you also have Weapon Focus (Longsword). Would you get double the benefit of Weapon Focus(Longsword) from having a Spell Perfected version of Shadow Weapon create a longsword? Would this also apply to say, Power Attack if you use it with the spell perfected Shadow Weapon?

Thanks in advance

Dear James Jacobs,

As the author of the "Cults of the Dark Tapestry" article in Pathfinder #42, how would you go about mechanically representing cultists/wizards of the Old Cults at your table with regards to the use of Planar Binding/Planar Ally style spells?

For instance, a Cultist of Azathoth casts Planar Ally- I'm having a hard time finding creatures in the Bestiary that are thematically Mythos and yet can meet the mechanical requirements of the spell (Outsider, not Aberration). Similarly for the archetypal wizard who "knows things that man was not meant to know" and his/her Planar Binding spell.

Ditto for cultists and their Summon Monster spell line- it seems odd for the cultists to be summoning Fiends and Demons rather than Mythos entities. Can you recommend a patch-over for this?

Thanks for any advice.

So, we know that the Forlarren are what happen when a nymph gets... ahem... unwanted attention from a fiend, and the nymph's reactions to it.

Question: How would some stronger female monsters (such as the erinyes, tataka rakshasa, and jorogumo) react to such... forceful contact?

Or does that vary with the individual?

My guestion:
Energy Reflection:
(Its listed under the Elemental Knight Archtype for Sulis from the Advanced Race Guide)

Energy Reflection (Su): This functions like the reflection magus arcana, except it only works on spells that deal acid, cold, electricity, or fire damage.

However the Reflection Magus Arcana states it works bacically like Spell Turning. This means no energy based AOE, Ranged Touch, or standard Touch Attacks could be reflected.

I can only think of 3 or 4 spells in total from the basic Pathfinder system that the power (a 12th level requirement for a Magus) could even work on.

What would your call be on a possible fix, or would you just tell a player to forget about it and wait for any offical errata?

I can see where allowing energy AOE spells to be reflected would be too powerful, but energy Ranged Touch attacks could possibly be a good exception IMHO.

This shouldn't be the place to go to because the rules questions forum is slow, first of all.

If you're not comfortable making a ruling for your game and want to wait for official errata, my suggestion would be to tell the player to pick a different archetype.

You have read the Versatile Spontaneity feat?

What do you think of it? It seem to work very differently for arcane spellcasters that will be capable to find with relative ease spellbooks with the spells they want and divine spellcasters that will be limited to scrolls.

It leave me very dubious about its balance.

Hi James

1) If you have a recurring foe, lets say that my group encounters John Doe in 3 different occasions, do they get XP 3 times as if defeating him 3 times even though he is a recurring NPC???

2) If this same John Doe has a ship, does the PC's get extra XP also for defeating the ship or the ship gets "calculated" in the CR of John Doe??

Hi James, long time no ask questions (holidays and suchlike). I have a few meandering queries on Thassilon, Runelords and Xin for you, if you have the time:

1) Runelord Krune has now, courtesy of PFS, been statted up (CR 18). Did you have much of a hand in giving him a statblock, or was it just general information?

2) Since he's CR 18, do you feel any safer about providing clearer CR or level references to the other Runelords, or at least Belimarius and Zutha considering that they bridge the gap between Krune and Karzoug? We seem to be getting closer to a full array of statted Runelords...

3) All the Runelords have had their Weapons of Rule as two-handed weapons, Major Artifacts created by Xin. While Xin seemed to be capable of creating seven Major Artifacts to symbolise their rule, why was he incapable of creating an eighth Alara'hai? It's mentioned that he could never achieve what his students did. Is there a reason?

4) These intelligent artifacts (despite their non-evil creator) appear to have evil alignments. Were they originally neutral/good (linked to the virtue rather than the sin) and slipped to evil through the influence of the Runelords?

5) Is the same true for the Runelords themselves, or at least the first seven? The visions shown in PF #66 seem to demonstrate jealousy and the signs of corruption, but were they always all-out-nasty from when Xin first took them with him from Azlant (or they followed him), or was it something that happened over time? If it's the former, then Xin probably isn't a very good judge of character. As in, at all.

6) Is there intended to be a definite sliding scale of power for the Weapons of Rule? Xanderghul's ais the most powerful and Krune's the weakest? Or do they all more or less sit around the same benchmark?

7) How would the intelligences of the artifacts come into play if they were wielded against one another? For example, if a Pathfinder group took down Krune, kept his weapon (and avoided having it gut them when they slept), and then wielded it against Karzoug? Are they interested in helping take down rival Runelords?
