I binged the whole thing last Saturday. It's amazing. One or two episodes I felt were not bad, but most of them were astounding. More animation like this, please!

I know this already. It's been recommended to me by people I know and trust and who know my tastes, which is why it's on my watchlist anyway. But at this point, it's not on Prime, so if I do want to watch it, I'm either renting episodes or buying seasons, and that puts an extra speed-bump in front of the process which already has a lot of speed bumps in the form of me wanting to do other things with my free time as well.

Season 1 of Legion is on Hulu.

As for a question...

Are you getting any actual role-playing gaming in these days? If so, would you be willing to let us know what you're playing/GMing?

Thanks!

Hi James,

Out of curiosity, what are the current streaming services you are subscribed to. Obviously Netflix and Amazon Prime based on the prior comments.

FYI I have been finding the horror selection on Hulu a bit stronger of late than Netflix, other than a few original movies. Although I find Amazon and Shudder to be pretty good as well

Yay! I really, really wanna see it but no Netflix alas.

What were some of your favourite episodes/parts?

Season 1 of Legion is also on amazon prime. Also "Free". Season 2 is not. I'm not interested in starting the show until A) it's allowed to reach its end and is complete, or B) It's all "free", or C) I have nothing more interesting that I'd rather watch to watch.

My only role-playing opportunity these days is a Starfinder game that Rob's running every Thursday evening for 3 hours or so... although conventions and stuff have had the last 2 weeks be cancelled. We generally end up getting to play 2 to 3 times a month. My character is Zeru Zinzi, a lashunta envoy/operative who gets yelled at more than is fair for trying to tag things with her violet spraypaint.

Without getting into spoilers, the things I liked the most were...

Spoiler:
...remote gladiatorial combat, creepy space station beyond the edge of the galaxy, X-bot, the Draculas and the cats, shark ghost, the color blue, the spot in the ice cube, and the Russian monsters. My favorite episode of them all is "Helping Hand."

Hellknights view devils as a means to an end, not as allies or leaders. Then why do they regard Hell as the epitome of order? Hell is not only lawful, but also evil. Shouldn't they regard Axis as the epitome of order, instead of Hell?

Mr. James Jacobs,

Assuming you are familiar with the Hive corruption from Horror Adventures. Say there is a male and a female who are both at stage 2 corruption, where they become aberrations, if the the two where to procreate and have offspring, what would the offspring be in your estimation?

You can admire or like something and not admire or even loathe other things. As a personal example, H. P. Lovecraft is my favorite author and I really admire how giving he was in helping others become writers and in how generous he was in letting other people use his creations in their own stories, but I loathe the fact that he was racist. I can look to Lovecraft as a great example of how to create a compelling mythology and someone who helps others become better writers and is generous with his creations, but I don't have to be a racist in order to admire those qualities in him.

Likewise, the Hellknights admire and respect the order and efficiency and methodology of Hell but don't automatically admire its evil.

The world (be it the real world or a made-up world) doesn't have to function only in absolutes.

There are some inconsistencies between Hell's Vengeance and Path of the Hellknight. In Hell's Vengeance, the lictor of the Order of the Pike is Lucan Orcelani. But in Path of the Hellknight, the lictor of the Order of the Pike is Lesheir Remsaine. There's more. Lictor Resarc Ountor of the Order of the Godclaw has his arts in both books. But the two arts look vastly different from each other. Normally I would say the more recent book would be correct, but Hell's Vengeance and Path of the Hellknight were published at the same time. So I honestly have no idea.

Yup, those errors happened because we didn't communicate well enough between the teams who were working on those two different products.

Haven't really decided which versions are correct, but I suspect in the end we'll go with the information from Path of the Hellknight.

In the meantime, feel free to use the one you like more in your game.

So, safe to assume less like the parents and more akin to a typical Hive member or something entirely new?

Wouldn't it be more interesting to be something unusual and strange and new?

If it's a story where the offspring is meant to be the focus, then yes, it should be one-of-a-kind. If the story is instead meant to represent a lot of weird monster kids, then maybe not.

Basically, do you want to play "The Dunwich Horror" or "Village of the Damned"? That's a choice the creator of the story should make as needed.

Fumbus is the iconic alchemist in 2nd edition. Damiel isn't scrapped, but is pretty much retired.

Quick question about the Baldric Bane:

Consider a Magus of 10th level to use this item. Can he use bane for 5 or 10 rounds?

5 rounds: he uses it as if he was a 5th level inquisitor, so gets level=5 rounds of bane.

10 rounds: he gains the ability an inquisitor gets at level 5. But he is level 10 himself, so gets level=10 rounds of bane.

No idea. This is a good question for your GM to resolve, or if you're the GM, make one choice and let your PCs know that if it ends up being too powerful or not powerful enough that you can change it further as you play.

I'm not comfortable rendering rulings on rules these days.

The Absalom name have any inspiration in the biblical third son of Davi?

I guess that probably not, but at least the name writing just because it's a cool name?

Has there been much desire to give attention to other IRL mythologies? Osirion shared the Egyptian patheon, but what about the Ulfen and the Norse pantheon? Obviously the focus is on Paizo's deities, but the introduction of the Egyptian pantheon makes me wonder why it stopped there.

Planar Adventures introduced Divine Gifts as a form of deific intervention. In what sort of situation would you grant a Divine Gift to a player, and does their character level play a factor into it? Must the character be especially pious in their devotion?

The situations to grant them are covered in that book. Give them out when a PC does a huge deal quest or action to support the faith, or as a reward for going on a quest, or for completing a major story element associated with the deity, or simply to enable a plotline. Level has nothing to do with it, but the character should be religious and faithful for a deity to want to give them a gift.

Are there any specific deities who like to push the boundaries of the "non-interference in the mortal world" edict (Iomedae seems to have tried to see the limits, in some manner, during Wrath of the Righteous) and is this something Casandalee and Nocticula would struggle with upon becoming new divinities?

Yes, and when they do, they'll show up in adventures or adventure paths*. It's not something Casandalee or Nocticula would struggle with though.

Could one cast a spell from the Shadow Plane to access the Outer Sphere and vice versa?

The reason I ask is because that was not possible in 3e.

All the spells you'd use on the Material Plane to travel to the Outer Sphere work pretty much the same on the Shadow Plane. There's nothing intrinsic about the Shadow Plane that makes it any tougher to go to or leave than normal for a plane. As far as I know, this is pretty much the same as it was in 3rd edition D&D.

Hey James!
This is my first post in these forums and I'd like to start by letting you know how much I appreciate everything you and Paizo have done for RPGs in general and also for all the people enjoying Pathfinder! It was my introduction to RPGs 1.5 years ago and especially the inclusive, interesting and just generally awesome world you guys created completely sucked me in!

Now for my question: reading up on the religions on Golarion I somehow got the feeling that the way the gods are presented makes them feel very, very human. They have family, they fight, they love etc... So my question is: why did you choose to make the gods like this instead of portraying them much more mysteriously and more or less detached (for lack of a better word) from our reality like many modern real world religions?
It seems to me they are very relatable, kind of just like us, only with unfathomable power. Some of them even seem just as vain and petty as us mortals (and I don't mean this in an antagonistic way!).

Woo! Thanks for the kind words, and welcome to posting on the forums!

The gods are intended to have very human traits. This not only helps to make them entities we as readers can understand and identify with or dislike, but also lets PCs do the same. It's also how gods from ancient mythologies more or less functioned as well.

Had we portrayed them mysteriously, we would have had to do clerics and divine spellcasters MUCH differently, and would have robbed ourselves of the chance to present characters who are great storytelling elements in our adventures.

I had to cancel the tickets I had for yesterday when it became apparent that I had to work through the weekend.

But then I managed at the last minute to go see a very late night showing when I realized I wasn't completely exhausted after working for a couple of weeks without a day off, so I went out and saw it, and it's 100% absolutely brilliant. The type of movie that, if it wasn't the last showing of the day, I would have gone right back to the box office and bought a second ticket to watch two in a row.

If you happen to be at the very edge of a layer of hell you can indeed physically step from one to the next. I imagine doing so involves falling such a long distance that you might die of old age before you land, though.

But otherwise, keep in mind that Hell is so vast that it's difficult to imagine. We haven't actually set down measurements for Hell (or most of the planes) since the distance should be one that measuring it in miles would be ridiculous, just like measuring astronomical distances.

And beyond that, keep in mind that the entire Material Plane is physically encapsulated by the Plane of Air, and then Water, Earth, and Fire, and then the Astral, and that the astral is so vast that from the far edge you can't see the plane of Fire burning like a star at all, and that the Outer Planes (of which the nine we've detailed in Pathfinder are but a tiny tiny tiny fraction of a fraction) encompass all of that.

So yeah, Hell is big.
