Make sure you're comfortable with the rules, and keep an eye on those swift actions! But also, prepare yourself mentally for the way the game changes from a grittier form of fantasy to a much more high fantasy, superhero-feeling game. It's like switching from Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings up to The Avengers.

I've actually been running very stingy with magic items, and using the automatic bonus advancement rules from unchained. Seems to be working to give the players a challenge. We'll see how it starts playing out at higher levels and tiers.

With the CotCT hardcover will Laori Vaus get new artwork and possibly a mini? Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please! Absolutely a fan favorite and it's been a terrible shame she never got a mini.

Curse of the Crimson Throne in hardcover?! Yay! What level is the new expanded Grey Maiden dungeon delve designed for? Any other new content?

Thank you! As a latecomer to the AP line, I am so excited to get this in print!

I know Chaotic Good is your personal favorite alignment, but would you say it's "the quintessential adventurer alignment" as some on these boards seem to believe? That, barring APs written explicitly for a particular alignment (Wrath of the Righteous for Good and Hell's Vengeance for Evil), the APs as written assume the PCs are on average Chaotic Good?

Whether or not she gets a mini is an Erik question.

She will indeed have new art. I've seen the sketch already and have made revision requests. She remains a tricky one to illustrate, but I'm hoping we'll get it done right this time. If only so that she'll be wearing armor that someone could actually wear without having it painted on.

New content:

Spoiler:
The "Gray Maiden dungeon" fits into the space between parts four and five, and consists of about 20 pages of new content. It's designed for 12th level adventurers.

Scarwall's had a SIGNIFICANT amount of new stuff added to it, ranging from stuff I had to cut from Greg's original turnover to entirely new things I designed for the castle. This does make the exploration of Scarwall into an even bigger task, but also results in barely any "empty rooms". There's something pretty much going on in every one of Scarwall's rooms, be it a fight or a danger or a treasure or a haunt or a clue or a roleplaying opportunity. I've also added a section of advice for GMs who want to streamline the dungeoncrawl element of Scarwall a little or a lot so that they can "get back to the plot" if that works better for their table.

I've added a lot of new little tidbits here and there to encounters and characters throughout the campaign, but beyond Scarwall and the brand new section at the end of History of Ashes, the changes are more along the lines of reorganization and clarification than they are "brand new content."

Overall, I'd say that there's more new content in this book than there was in Rise of the Runelords. It's a bit longer than Runelords as a result, and is in fact the 2nd largest book we've ever published!

I had always assumed thay as a Kuthonite that her skin tight chainmail was a grizzly kinda take that at the chainmail bikini trope and its like.

Was this not the case?

There's no such thing as a "quintessential adventurer alignment" overall, but there certainly is for any one group's specific table, since groups tend to settle into ruts of game play habits and preferences.

Unless we go into an AP with a specific assumption (AKA: Hell's Vengeance is for evil characters, lawful characters will have problems in Skull & Shackles or Hell's Rebels, etc.) we don't make any alignment assumptions at all for an AP.

It wasn't the case at all. We've tried VERY HARD to avoid the tired, cliched, and honestly destructive chainmail bikini trope in our artwork.

Laori is supposed to wear spiked chain mail, NOT a spiky body stocking. The original art was VERY off model and off style, but we ran with it anyway since we had no other option at the time and she was too important of a character to not illustrate.

For this book, we didn't even give the artist that one as reference, so that they'd start 100% fresh from scratch. Her new look has her wearing normal chain mail that's more progressive and sensible and realistic, but still has plenty of spikes. She is, of course, also still a very happy elf as well!

Despite my personal issues with the situation, I'm glad to hear that this is on the way, and super-excited to see the new Laori Vaus!

Thank you for the hard work. ^_^

...questions, questions...

Ah!

Will the guided weapon property and the celestial plate return, or were those not in line with the PFRPG's design standards? (Either way, it'll be nice to have that resolved.)

Thank you! ^_^

In that I plan to go see it tonight for the second time, after having seen it once already at 7:00 PM at the very first showing possible on last Thursday night? Yup. I got plans.

1. Have you ever seen a better performance out of John Goodman than the one he gives in 10CL? (I wanna know so I can go look it up, 'cause... damn.)

2. Is it just me, are or we getting some insanely good genre movies on wide release of late?

And unrelated to that movie:

Considering you were bracing for a "that's it?" about the CotCT hardcover... how does it feel seeing so many people posting little accounts of gleeful cartwheels at the prospect?

In fact, those two items are scrubbed from the adventure. Guided weapon doesn't really fit with PFRPG's design standards (and doesn't really fit with the character who used it any more, from a thematic point—see spoiler below), while the celestial plate just turned into celestial armor for space concerns; if we end up having more room in the magic item appendix (doubtful) it's on the short list to come back though.

Spoiler:
In the original adventure, the guided weapon quality was on a weapon wielded by Shadowcount Sial, who in the previous edition was a cleric/thaumaturge. We don't have thaumaturge prestige class in Pathfinder, and so his class had to change. His new class, which I will stay mum about for at least a few more hours, has no real use for Wisdom and a LOT of use for Charisma, and so his stats were adjusted as appropriate. With a not-outlandish Wisdom, a weapon quality that let him modify attacks with Wisdom didn't make sense any more, so I ditched that quality from the adventure to make more room for other magic items that needed to be in there.

1) I have not, but I've seen him put in some INCREDIBLE performances before. He's an excellent actor, but this role is his best yet.

2) There's usually a few great genre movies in wide release every year. That we got two close together so early in the year is nice though!

And so far, so good! Response seems good!

Do you feel that the new archetypes from Ultimate Intrigue, the Tyrant for Antipaladins and the Gray Paladin for regular paladins, are "off-model" for what a paladin and antipaladin should be like, considering that now there are archetypes that allow all three kinds of evil for antipaladins (regular ones for CE, Insinuators from Agents of Evil for NE and the aforementioned Tyrant for LE) and now there can be things like "Paladins of Milani" by playing a Gray Paladin (since they can be LN, NG or LG)? I believe you've expressed sentiments to this effect in the past, that using archetypes to extend the Antipaladin and Paladin to other alignments cheapens what it means to be a member of those classes.

I am not all that familiar with the archetypes in Ultimate Intrigue. Personally, I'm not a fan of non-lawful good paladins at all, but there's obviously a demand for them, so this archetype should delight folks who want to play with that. Don't expect any in-print examples though... at least not in books I work on.

Were you able to work on CotCT without quite the stress and manic workload you had for the RotRL hardcover?

Did you feel like you'd learned something from the first. As in, is "make compilations" a skill to improve on, separate from just general adventure developing?

Absolutely. Not only was using what we learned from Runelords a huge help, but the fact that our editorial department has nearly doubled in size helped as well—I didn't have to simultaneously develop a hardcover AND an adventure path at the same time, in other words.

First off, let me join my voice to the excitement of the CotCT hardcover announcement!

Second, is this one of the projects that saw you stepping away from AP development in order to work on this?

Third, did you know that John Goodman graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield (my home town and undergrad alma mater)?

I think that the Southwest Missouri t-shirt he wears in 10 Cloverfield must be a reference to that. Although our mascot is a bear not a wolf.

Good news for you then! Take your time planning that purchase, since we'll have PLENTY of copies in print and on hand to send you when you do eventually make your decision!

Curse will reprint some of the monsters and magic items, along with the Harrow mechanics and select bits of information about disease and the Cinderlands... but overall, the vast bulk of the backmatter articles from Crimson Throne will not be reprinted. Mostly because that information has ALREADY been reprinted in things like Inner Sea Gods, Inner Sea Races, Inner Sea World Guide, and other books.

Less now than ever before, because if there was any book in which we'd ever support a Gray Maiden prestige class by using those rules to build stats, it would have been this book. And since this book does not... nope. No plans to ever do a Gray Maiden prestige class.

Not really a REASON to do something like that, frankly, since one of the design goals for the order was to give plain old fighters something fun to play with. A flavor infusion, if you will, for the class. Building a prestige class or even an archetype defeats the purpose of showing what you can do to make a class more interesting with purely flavor additions.

As you've likely noticed, we've never really nailed down a regional resource map. That extends to unpublished in-house resources. As a result, I can't really say off the top of my head where one would find them, other than to confirm they exist plentifully.

If you held a gun to my head, I'd say that they likely come from the northern shoreline regions of the Inner Sea; Cheliax, Andoran, Taldor, and Qadira.

Are the expanded adventures in the Curse of the Crimson Throne hardcover going to be optional side treks or full on parts of the plot that are essential to the overall story?

Full on parts of the plot essential to the story.

There's simply no room whatsoever to put in "optional side treks." For those, seek out other adventures we've published set in Korvosa or the hinterlands. There are plenty to choose from.

Excellent; thanks.

I know Varisia is Pacific-Northwesty, but I wasn't sure where the climate swung around to Southern-California-orange-groves.
