Actually if you read the afterword of the Hobbit, Frodo was elected Mayor of the Shire for 6 or 7 terms, ending when he refused to run any further.

He eventually along with several others, took the very last ship that went over Sea to the Undying West, Just as Bilbo had done.. and the very last sight of that ship that was seen, was the light of the vial of Galadriel.

3) Not at all.

My third problem had several possible questions that this could have been an answer to.

1. So objectively, the karma attaching itself to your soul should be based on who was killed right?
2. Or am I looking at it in an overly simplistic way?
3. Wouldn't that be more closely related to whether a thing is Lawful vs Chaotic than whether it's Good vs Evil?

While I get what you're saying about keeping alignment simple, I'm not sure which thing you were saying "Not at all" to.

Not at all = you can't standardize things like this. It's gotta be on a case by case basis, which lets you make the decisions as best fits the story you want to tell.

For various reasons, I may be replacing Shensen in my run of Hell's Rebels. No offense. ^_^

Is there any chance you could tell me... what about her character is "essential"? Like, what parts of who she is - faith, race, profession, etc. - are vital to her role in the plot, and what can be altered without issue.

Does that question even make sense? I'm a little panicky right now, so I'm sorry if I'm not wholly coherent... :(

Does holy water detect as magical? Is there any way to identify it, if it's not clearly labeled, other than detect good or some similar aura-revealing mechanic? If someone tastes it, in the manner of using Perception to identify a potion, does it taste different than ordinary water?

For Hell's Rebels, the main things that are "essential" about Shensen are mostly things that pop up in part four of the campaign...

Spoiler:
1) She can perform the Song of Silver if there are no PCs with any ranks in Profession (sing).

2) She serves as a quest-giver for one of the several missions in "A Song of Silver."

3) She's a pretty potent support character. "A Song of Silver" is not meant to be an adventure where the PCs do one encounter and rest. It's not a "15-minute adventuring day." If the PCs do this, they'll likely end up losing the city. Shensen, and several other NPCs, can serve not only as resources to provide healing and the like, but can also help to run the rebels and, if the GM feels that things are warranted, can accompany the PCs on adventures to provide additional support and help. If you DO have an NPC like Shensen accompany the PCs, I recommend you don't treat her as a PC and don't include her when calculating XP for the game. She should level up when and if you want, but shouldn't "rob" the PCs of any potential XP they earn.

4) She adds a pretty large amount of awesome and class to the adventure. At least... I think she does!

It doesn't detect as magic. I'd say that a DC 11 Craft (alchemy) or Knowledge (religion) check is enough to identify it... you need to be trained in the skill, essentially, but it's really easy to identify if you have any training.

Hey James,

Skimming through the Hell's Rebel AP so far ( not reading it as I hope to play it one of these days) and really love it so far. I will definitly want to run it one of these days.

:
I noticed something though...reading through the player's guide I thought that at least a follower of Calistria might be a important ally...and maybe a chance to rally the Calistria followers in the city...but nothing Calistrian related has shown up yet...except for a secret shrine that PCs use for a adventure as a headquarters.

So is there anything in the AP? Or would the GM have to create it on their own?

** spoiler omitted **

As for the spoiler...

Spoiler:
There's nothing hard-coded into the AP about Calistria really, apart from the statue in the Wasp Nest in the 1st adventure. That said, Calistria's faith makes a GREAT theme for a PC in this AP, since it's about revenge, among other things.

This AP isn't really about rewarding one particular faith over any other—there's some fun stuff in there here and there for several chaotic but not-evil faiths like Calistria, Milani, Sarenrae, Desna, Cayden Cailean, and more, but they're on par with what you've seen so far. The focus of Hell's Rebels isn't religion so much as it is rebellion, and faiths that value freedom, revenge, and artistic pursuits will fit in well.

The most decadent part of renaissance Italy, but with a big dose of diabolism themes and the colors red and black, I guess. AKA: There's not really a good analog from Earth's history for a nation of magic-using devil worshipers.

Hey, JJ, here's a link to a page from Schlock: Mercenary, but it's not about the cartoon.

it's about the commentary below the cartoon, ARK, which the cartoonist plays with his kids. It was originally from Oct. 7th, but he's kept it up for a while, so it's still there.

You being the dinosaur lover, I thought you'd find it great.

I'll probably replace her with one of my former PCs, then, since it sounds like she'll slot in nicely into most of those roles.

It does... if we want to see it, all we need do is look in our mirrors. As my college roommate found out the hard way though, I do not recommend punching glass. He was a South Jerseyan who had multiple chips on his shoulder, being from South Jersey, being short, and being homophobe, and for some reason was placed in a dorm that was essentially, the Greenwich Village of Rutgers College.

So his preferred method of opening the stair access doors was to punch them. One day he was so deep in his walking anger that he missed the door flat and his fist went straight through the glass lattice instead.

He wasn't punching any doors for a long while after that.

What's your attitude on bards (or anyone musically inclined, really) using magic to create sounds that are impossible with medieval instruments, like the theremin or synth? Is there a thriving culture on Golarion around music that go beyond what medieval instruments can do, or is that an abomination? Like, are there theoretically Kraftwerk bards out there using the hell out of Ghost Sound or something?

When you use an illusion spell to create an illusion, the result is limited only by the caster's imagination. Just as you can make an illusion of any sort of monster you can imagine, you can make an illusion of any sort of sound you can imagine.

Whether or not a Pathfinder spellcaster can "imagine" a theramin sound would depend on the game and the GM. It's in the same category of "can you create an illusion of a car engine?" if you're a Pathfinder spellcaster. Of course you can, but whether not your character would know what that is and whether or not anyone seeing it would know what it is depends on your game.

Dunno off the top of my head; this is a rules question and should be asked over in the rules forum so the question can be FAQed and will be seen by the design team.

Nope. I might some day, but for now, I'm distracted by "The Long Dark" and "Pillars of Eternity," and it looks like the first big DLC for Witcher 3 is here... and in a few weeks Fallout 4 makes all that moot anyway.

But yeah, some day I'll be picking up First Sin. At this point I'm content to wait for the price to drop a bit.

I feel your pain, James. I feel your pain.

Do worshipers of Cayden Cailean use holy water at all? Or do they just use beer that's blessed in a similar fashion? Or would they consider that a waste of good alcohol?

On that note, I'm working on a character angling to join the Bellflower Network for Hell's Rebels. Would Milani or Cayden Cailean be a better fit for the character? I'm sort of angling for a "roguish leader" type who sneaks around unlocking shackles and then shouts, "ALL SLAVES, FOLLOW ME TO FREEDOM!" while leading the charge for the slave revolt. A sort of halfling Spartacus, if you will.

All faiths use holy water, including that of Cayden Cailean. I suspect that they often bless ale or beer though. That'd be fine.

Milani is probably a better choice considering elements in the Hell's Rebels AP overall.

Try to avoid any spoilers if you can. Life is Strange is one of those "once in a lifetime" games. The game has very little in the way of raw mechanics, as it's entirely story and character driven. Think, Mass Effect or Dragon Age character interactions.

I'd recommend it on nothing more than it's basically Dark Souls 2 Hard Mode. In addition to the addon content they've also revamped the enemy layout thoughout the areas, like putting the gray knights and a friggin DRAKE at the Tower of Heide...

(I was able to get me a used copy for $39, glory of the Souls series being that a LOT of people keep returning them due to their difficulty :3)

Mmm, Fallout 4...

Is the halfling on the front cover of the Hell's Rebels Player's Guide of any significance? For some reason, she looks so adorable.
