I actually KNOW what region will get hardcover treatment next. Which means I can't say in public yet, because we're not ready to make that announcement. BUT: Just because the Inner Sea World Guide is a hardcover doesn't automatically mean that the next one will also cover an entire continent, nor does it mean that just because you're a continent that you automatically get a hardcover. Remember, our first attempt to cover the Inner Sea Region was the 64 page softcover gazetteer...

I understand the whole secrecy thing. But I hope we do get hardcovers for them I know I'd buy all of them. I mean casmaron has at least 2 large regions I know of (the homeland of the keleshites, and Vudra). And Tien Xia is so many different cultures in one it deserves it's own hardcover. Maybe not the crown of the world I could totally see that being a hardcover. But regardless I eagerly await anything. PS Can you give a hint?

Zero.

He's already a man before he takes his first step, according to the question, where you define the subject of the question as a man at the onset of the question.

But of course the question wasn't how many roads a man must walk down before he becomes a man. The question was how many roads must a man walk down before you, James Jacobs, CALL him a man?

Depends on if the guy's a jerk or not, I guess, or if he's bringing me a delicious artichoke heart, jalapeno, and garlic pizza...

I'd like that. Having a buffed-to-the max group walking into a fight can skew the battle immensely. The encounter I was talking about had a combined CR of 19 3/4 against a 14th level group, which did challenge the characters but they pulled through ( using a few Harrow Points ). But I had to combine 5 regular encounters to give them that challenge and was frustrated more than a few times during the combat when the monsters ( including the CR 15 Red Mantis assassin and the Horned Devil ) needed 15+ for their primary attacks to hit.
I totally feel your pain. I have often had to combine multiple "level appropriate" encounters to be even a minor challenge to my PCs. I think this is more of an issue with the CR system than the "buffs" that PCs get. Of course it could be a combination of the two.

Sometimes it's also an issue of tactics. Not the "needs 15+ to hit" part, but when you have experienced tacticians in your game who sneak a look using clairvoyance, scry or the like and then set themselves up to specifically shank, divide-and-conquer, or debuff-then-dismiss. (Sometimes Scry-and-Die tactics really are valid.) The same CR 16 Horned Devil being taken out by a single dismissal by a 13th level guy before it even gets a chance to realize the PCs are there...

A wizard with an Int of 20 is supposed to be a tactical genius. But most GMs and, frankly, most PCs don't have the ability to mimic that. A GM who can gets whined at. A PC who can is more often than not accused of powergaming, even when they're not. And when you get both together in a room a battle can take three hours from all the arguing over placing, deciding of movements, tactics, math, and (hilariously) shots in the dark.

Dear James Jacobs,
What on Golarion is going on with a bizarre reference to 'relic-organs' I just came across in the context of an RPGSuperstar entry which mentioned the Harlot Queen of Geb? Please don't be talking about Tian Xia - a brief overview that will still tick off the "I don't want any Asian stuff in my games" people while simultaneously disappointing the fans who did want a nice in-depth treatment of it seems to be just a losing proposition, at least from where I sit.

I am creating the first alchemist modeled after Zosimos of Panopolis I am putting him in Kho. I would like to keep an alchemist flavor but I think that Wizard might make more sense. They SHOULD have been in the faction guide. There'll be a Sczarni faction soon.

Until then, try Pathifnder #1 for starters. And Pathfinder #7 has a big article about Varisians and the Sczarni. And Our first novel, "Prince of Wolves," might just have some Sczarni stuff in it. And there's more about them in the campaign guide (both the previous hardcover and the upcoming "Inner Sea World Guide"). They're mentioned in the Inner Sea Primer too, I believe. And if you can wait a little longer, they'll have some play in the upcoming Jade Regent Adventure Path also.

They're all over the place, in other words. But if you want to learn more, you have to work at it. The Sczarni aren't about making things easy.

There's something that's been bugging me for months, years, ever since I snatched up the Core Rulebook and Bestiary upon first publication.

Why does the picture of Male Elf in Underwear (from chapter 1) have no crotch bulge whatsoever? The Female Human in Underwear (also from chapter 1) has a bigger package. Is this meant to imply something on the manishness of human women? Or maybe the femininity of male elves?

As a corollary, why does the picture of the Skum in the Bestiary have such a giant crotch bulge?

What's the toughest encounter one of your characters ever survived?

Is there some kind of ancient building you'd like to visit, like a castle or a shrine, or anything of that nature?

Because different artists have different takes on crotch bulges. We don't specifically ORDER crotch bulges as part of art orders, in any event. Like nipples on a cold day, they tend to make folks nervous and as a result we tend to prefer to err on the side of less bumps in the clothing.

Or maybe elves are like reptiles and keep things inside the garage when they're not in use?

I'm not sure, since I never know the CR of things... but in Jason Nelson's game, my character Shensen survived a fight with a howling dragon that managed to kill Mike McArtor's character three times before we put it down. That was a pretty rough fight.

I'd like to visit a castle, or one of the pyramids, or maybe a ziggurat in Central America.

Most impressive building is probably a tie between the pyramid of the Sun in Mexico, the Cairo pyramids, and the just newly built Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Well, I'll see if I can rustle something up and convince my players to do try it out, since we are beginning Kingmaker in two to three weeks. Although they will have a very melee-centric party, with a planned Cleric/Paladin/Holy Vindicator, Ranger, Fighter, Playtest Ninja and a Priest ( from Tome of Secrets ). So they wouldn't have many buffs to fill slots anyway.

Maybe the other group, where the current GM needs some time between Second Darkness modules to convert them to Pathfinder and I've been asked to fill in as GM with Kingmaker as well... when that starts, we'll see which kind of party they will build.

Or, alternately, a massive monster that is so resistant to efforts to kill it that the only way to do so is to adventure in the "dungeon" of it's insides, seeking the literal heart of the dungeon.

Kind of odd, you'd say that 'bout now. My last Warcraft-Cataclysm adventure

Spoiler:
took place inside a mollusk large enough to house a small town comfortably. And it was sentient too. And the pearls! big enough to roll over gnomes with! Although instead of killing it my mission was to liberate it from the aforemnentioned reptilian omnicidal aquatic night elves.

I'd recommend Blarney castle in Ireland, it can never hurt to reinforce your gift of gab right?

It's a good name, but I'm not sure we have platypuses on Golarion yet. And since I don't think we DO have them on Golarion (if they are, they likely live on a distant continent), then the tavern would essentially have the same draw as any made up dirty word. Like "The Dirty Beodnarat" or "The Dirty Olnakoodi."

Both of those would probably attract folks, mostly those eager to find out what that weird mysterious dirty thing actually is.

Assuming you meant "alternate Earth during a zombie apocalypse" and not an entire undead universe, I'd definitely go for the mall, since after watching "Dawn of the Dead" and playing "Dead Rising," I feel that I have a lot of practice and have done a lot of research on how best to survive that situation.

If I go to PaizoCon UK, it's to work, not to sightsee. That being in the middle of the convention season, I personally would find it irresponsible to take a longer vacation on one side of PaizoCon UK or the other, and while PaizoCon UK was going, it'd be irresponsible to ditch the con just to go sight seeing.

Also, combining work with vacation, in my experience, is a terrible thing to do.

Second, will there be some more information about the Old Cults in the upcoming Inner Sea Guide?

We haven't actually announced any sort of Tian Xia World Guide at all. There's been a lot of assumptions that just because the Inner Sea World Guide is hardcover, that means that we'll do hardcover books of all of Golarion's continents. I can say right now that that is NOT the case.

Some sort of Tian Xia support would be a logical choice, given that we're doing an AP that's half set in Minkai, and we have traditionally produced books in the Campaign Setting line that support the current AP.

We've also found out that when we do more than 3 hardcovers in a year... even if that 4th hardcover is more reprint than new content (as was the case of the Inner Sea World Guide), our schedule and health falls apart. The idea of that 4th hardcover being all new information from the ground up paralyzes me with horror. And the idea of doing fewer than 3 hardcovers in the rulebook line itself paralyzes management with horror. And the idea of replacing one of those rulebook hardcovers with a Golarion-themed hardcover (AKA: crossing the streams, to go Ghostbusters) is a bad idea for a host of reasons related to subscribers alone.

All of which means that a hardcover Tian Xia book is very very very very unlikely.

Furthermore, look back at the route we took to develop the Inner Sea. We didnt' start with a hardcover there—we started with the 64 page softcover Gazetteer. Using that as a stepping stone, we were then able to tackle the 256 page hardcover book next year.

All of which is my way of saying that we are not going to do a hardcover Tian Xia book this year. Something like that is just not possible.

That doesn't mean we won't do a bunch of other Tian Xia products though. Spreading the Tian Xia information out among our various lines (Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Modules, Player's Companion, etc.) would be a manageable way to get a lot of information out about the region without destroying our schedule and sanity by throwing an extra hardcover onto things.

As for when we might announce such products, and when they might be available for preorder... that's a question for our esteemed publisher. All I can say is "you'll probably know for sure by Paizocon."

There's not much more information about the Old Cults in the Inner Sea World Guide, but there is information on the Void domain that their clerics have access to, first revealed in the book "Gods and Magic" and updated to the PFRPG for the first time here. If you're looking for information about the Old Cults, though, Pathfinder #46 is where you want to go, since that has an article about the Old Cults and a double sized bestiary to go along with it.

Nope.

I've got a list in my head. Iterative attacks and buff slots are high on that list.

But actual work on Pathfinder 2nd edition? Hasn't started yet. Probably won't for quite a few years to come, and it'll be a few years AFTER that, I suspect, before it's available at stores.

Despite what some folks might think... the game is SOLID as it stands. It works. I'm running 2 games and playing in 2 other games using the rules, and it's more fun than ever. I'm just not one of those types who forgets that the rules are for a game run by a person capable of using those rules or ignoring them as he/she sees fit to make the experience fun for the group.

It's not computer programing, so it doesn't need to read like code.
