Advice for New Pathfinder GM: Module

Advice

Hi,

I am new to Pathfinder and haven't played D&D for many years, but I have an opportunity to GM a 2 player Pathfinder game. I was hoping someone could give me advice as to what would be a good 1st module in a series to start out with.

Forgot to mention that I have the core book and bestiary.

Thanks in advance,

Neil

Let me recommend Masters of the Fallen Fortress as a stand alone, and Crypt of the Everflame/Masks of the Living God/City of Golden Death as a trilogy.

Both MotFF and CotE are pretty basic (CotE uses the Dungeon flipmat) and are good for introductory players. Enough has evolved, that you might want to at least download and read through MotFF (free download) to look it over.

It is a bit of a meat-grinder (at least it was for the party I was in) but Hollow's Last Hope is a decent module that can be used as a springboard into several others. For something with an overall arc, you might want to look at one of the Adventure paths. I'm enjoying running Council of Thieves which is Urban. I will be starting Kingmaker soon which is a wilderness exploration. I've played 13/ of Rise of the Runelords (which I love so far), though it does need converting to Pathfinder. I think my GM has some notes on medium progression pathfinder conversion.

Tower of the Last Baron is a stealth/espionage/infiltration adventure, which is an excellent choice for one or two players. Rather than try to rebalance the module to their level, allow them to play characters that are a level higher than the module recommends. If they all play stealthy characters, they may find avoiding combat a great challenge.

Have fun.

The first mod I ever GMed was Hangman's Noose. It is a fabulous module, and my players will respect me forever because of how I did Jarbin Mord's voice.

Be aware that some of the modules listed here have been Pathfinder 3.5e modules, not Pathfinder PFRPG modules.

That's not to say there's anything wrong with the 3.5e modules, but they may require a little more work to run with Pathfinder RPG.

I'm personally looking forward to running Hangman's Noose, but it is a 3.5e module. For your first Pathfinder RPG experience, you may want to stick with one of the actual Pathfinder RPG modules such as Crypt of the Everflame (said to be quite difficult) or Masters of the Fallen Fortress (which is free as a PDF).

Anyway, just be aware of the edition for which the module was written as that might be important to your decision of which one to get.

I really liked Hangman's Noose and The Last Baron as well. I have run the Last Baron for two players and did exactly as Mr. Hoyle suggested - higher level stealthy characters and it worked perfectly. There is a sequel to the Last Baron, Chimera's Cove.

Entombed with the Pharaohs (also 3.5) is an excellent module with a sequel the Pact Stone Pyramid. But bear in mind Mr. Munroe's comments about 3.5.

You might also consider trying some Pathfinder Society Scenarios.
