Scipion del Ferro's Colosseum
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 1st Absalom Arena Grand Tournament. Today you will witness men and women of great renown display their combat prowess.
Introducing, Rorsk the druid and his companion Kitty! Brave warriors of nature with a dark and mysterious background. Perhaps they are here this week to earn leniency for some crime of passion?
Next up is Lethe, barbarian bride of the Shoanti! Woe be the man who shuns her or thinks she's your property. He'll soon find himself crushed while being ridden bareback.
From deep within the Sky Citadels I present Koldas Stonerock, one of the rare dwarven monks. A mountain mystic who spends his time secluded. Meditating in an ale induced trance.
Finally I present Ergar "Stinkeye" Dambreaker, a dwarven zen archer. One who's mind has been trained to link with his weapon. His thoughts fly straight as the arrows he shoots.
Let's get it on.

Round 1
Rorsk vs. Lethe
(19) Kitty reacts first darting into an open area of the trees trying to find a good position for flanking and charging. He watches the barbarian carefully through the dimly lit trees.
(18) Rorsk weaves his hands in sacred gestures, with a final utterance his skin ripples and cracks. Bark like material covers the druid providing further protection. Enchantment complete the druid moves forward into the forest.
(18) While not usually being one for tactics Lethe is wise enough to know not to run into the open before a tiger. Instead she moves quickly forward behind a tree. Using it to cover her back she takes a total defensive. She closes her eyes momentarily and prepares to let the battle lust wash over her.

Round 2
Rorsk vs. Lethe
(19) The tiger let's out a growl, frustrated at not being able to pounce the cowardly woman. No matter, the beast dashes around the try and swipes at her with a claw.
Claw: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Miss.
She seems to have prepared for the attack and ducks under the blow.
(18) Seeing his companion enter the fray Rorsk moves quickly, mid stride he begins to chant in the forest tongue. The world bends and becomes brighter. In his massive dire tiger form the druid let's out a terrifying roar from behind Lethe.
(18) Lethe responds to his roar by staring the tiger in the eye. She twitches and let's out a primordial scream. Nearly frothing at the mouth in madness she steps back beside the smaller tiger and swings a pair blows at it.
Greataxe: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33 Hit!
Damage; 1d12 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33 (Kitty HP 15)

One blow lands along the cat's spine driving it to the ground, she spins and lands another on it's neck. "You're next druid!" She screams at Rorsk as the companion falls to the ground.

As the two untangle themselves a somber priest comes out, sprinkling diamond dust in an intricate circle around Kitty he quickly casts a true resurrection spell.

Preperation
The seconds fight will be between Ergar and Koldas. They will be fighting in one of four arenas.
::1d4 ⇒ 3::
(1) Pillars
(2) Trees
(3) City
(4) Lake
As the audience watches several gnome druids casting spells removing the existing trees. Following behind them are a pair of older men who carefully place small stone boxes on the ground. At the push of a tiny button each box unfolds into a stone building with two windows and a door. The torches lining the walls of the arena flicker strangely and begin casting deep shadows. The midnight darkness only affects the fighters though.
Ergar enters from the west side. Koldas enters from the east. The two are unable to see each other at the start.

Round 1
Ergar vs. Koldas
(14) Koldas pats his trusty keg of ale and peers into the miniature city. The damn old men have placed a building directly between himself and the archer. Probably for the best. "You stay put, mah pretty. I'll be needin' a refresher after da fight."
He runs over to the closest building and dives through the door. Inside he drinks his potion of barkskin. Stoney flakes cover his already thick dwarven skin.
(10) Wary of not being able to see Koldas the zen archer moves beside the closes building and drinks his potion of haste. The world seems to blur and slow down while he feels normal. With bow in hand he waits.

Round 2
Ergar vs. Koldas
(14) "Wonda, wonda where that fish did go..." Koldas drinks his potion of cat's grace. Feeling much more limber he moves over to the window and quickly shimmies through it. After a quick trot to the next building he hops through that window as well and puts his back to the corner.
(10) Ergar listens carefully trying to figure out Koldas' movements.
Perception check; 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
The scuffling of Koldas through the stone window and building reveal his location. Ergar turns around and faces the building before him. It is 10-feet tall with a flat room. More of a box than a house really. He concentrates and feels the ki of his body flowing through him.
Take 10 for a 43 Jump check to get on the roof. (1 Ki point used)
Graceully he leaps straight up and lands on the building. He turns around and readies an arrow to shoot Koldas when he reveals himself.

Round 2
Ergar vs. Koldas
(14) The tipsy monk moves through the window towards where Ergar started. Just gotta close the distance! As he flips out of the building the archer shoots an arrow at him from above.
Readied Longbow: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31 Hit!
Damage; 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 (Koldas HP 76)
"Agh! You arrow flittin' elf, hiding on a roof!" He too focuses on his chi flow leaping into the air to land beside Ergar taking a step to get right beside him.
(10) Seeing the rival monk land next to him Ergar takes a step to the side. The arrows in his quiver rattle at the speed of his movements. Ergar focuses on the dull sound of them, he takes a slow deep breath and draws on the ki energy of himself and the weapons. In a just a few seconds the zen archer fires a brace of arrows.
Longbow; 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (12) + 23 = 35 Hit!
Deflect Arrows!
Longbow; 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (4) + 23 = 27 Hit!

Somehow Koldas' lightning fast reflex enable him to deflect the first of the six arrows. The second one strikes him in the shoulder. Third and fourth go ricocheting off of his stoney skin. Another arrow in the matching shoulder and the final one strikes through the neck.

(14) Gritting his teeth in pain Koldas closes the gap taking a martial stance. He starts humming a bawdy tune and begins a flurry of large meaty fists.
Disarm Attempt; 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22 Fail.
Disarm Attempt; 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Fail.

(Ki Point) Disarm Attempt; 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30 Fail.
The zen archer is in an almost trance like state and weaves and dodges the attacks and attempts to steal his bow.
(10) Standing at literal point blank range Ergar begins twisting and turning firing arrows in a bizarre melee dance. His concentration is perfect as Koldas attempts to find an opening or chance to steal the deadly bow.

Longbow; 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (20) + 23 = 43 Crit?

Damage; 3d8 + 27 ⇒ (3, 8, 1) + 27 = 39 (Koldas HP -36)
Each thrum of the bow sends another lightning fast arrow. Koldas is only able to knock away one and dodge a pair. The other three strike him in vital locations, the last blow piercing his heart.
Koldas collapses to the ground with half a dozen arrows propping him off the ground.
The buildings shrink back to their original box like form and the torches throw off normal light gain. The same priest from before some out and lets out a sigh as he sees Koldas' body. He patiently begins removing arrows and drags the dwarf off, mumbling about needing more diamonds.
Victory goes to Ergar!
Next up, Ergar and Rorsk.

After the instant buildings are cleared away the druids return with their feather tokens and begin to plant another forest. This time the trees are coniferous rather than deciduous. The air is filled with a fresh pine scent. The torches lining the walls of the arena flicker strangely and start casting dim shadows, only the entrants are affected by it.
Ergar enters from the east side. Rorsk and Kitty enter from the west. Through the trees the two can barely catch glimpses of each other.

Round 1
Rorsk vs. Ergar
(21) Ergar takes a step to the side giving him a clear line of sight to Kitty. With a deep focus on the pool of ki in his stomache he draws an arrow. Treating it like an extension of his own being the ki flows from his hand and into the shaft. He quickly fires a flurry of such arrows at the giant cat.
Longbow; 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30 Hit!
Damage; 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 (Kity HP 36)

Longbow; 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25 Hit!
Damage; 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 (Kity HP -3)
The four shots drive into Kitty, each one hitting harder than a heavy crossbow bolt.
(17) Kitty slumps to the ground with four arrows forming a diamond pattern in his chest.
(14) "Damn you! I'll pull you apart and eat your heart while it beats, dwarf! Rorsk let's out a sorrowful howl as he jogs forward. Sweeping his hands around in a druidic dance he transforms into his dire tiger form.

Round 2
Rorsk vs. Ergar
(21) The zen archer lowers his bow hesitantly as the dire tiger approaches. Ergar moves to north east corner of the arena hiding behind the tree there. As he moves the monk grabs a potion from his belt. With the tree at his back he drinks the potion of displacement. A wobbly feeling like being drunk but sober at the same time comes over him and fades quickly.
(14) Rorsk dashes across the arena dodging around the two trees. He nearly slams into the wall near Ergar's hiding place. The sight of the monk makes him a tad sick. There appear to be two of him swaying back in forth never further than two-feet apart. Rorsk picks one and slashes at it.
Claw; 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24 Miss.
The dwarf, wether real or image, ducks the attack.

Damage; 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 (Rorsk HP 64)
All four arrows strike true and Rorsk finds himself suffering as much as his poor Kitty. While shooting Ergar has begun to hum, a slight blue aura appears around him as he concentrates his ki towards evasion.
(14) "HHHHRRRRRrrroooooaaawwwwWWW!!!!" growls Rorsk. Desperate to make this fight even closer he attacks with tooth and nail
Claw: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18 Miss.

Longbow; 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24 Miss.
Three of the arrows strike Rorsk, along his side. Two bounce off his thick hide.
(14) "Arrrggg rrrroaaa huff mmrroowww," growls Rorsk as he twists in place and shrinks down, flesh and fur slough off of him revealing a creature made of earth and stone. The earth elemental form Rorsk has taken resembles a crudely carved tiger statue. He leaps and turns to the ground diving into the dirt below. Not a single pebble is disturbed.
