I realized this weekend that the dates for PaizoCon 2011 coincide with the final weekend of Portland Rose Festival.

It is very likely that the Navy staff to which I will be reporting in April has responsibilities associated with the Rose Festival, which will keep me from participating in PaizoCon.

That's not 100% certain, but it seems likely that I won't be able to attend this year. I'm very much bummed about this revelation. :(

That stinks. :(

Hope it works out otherwise. You're on the list of 'folks Wolf wants to meet'.

Thanks, Wolf. You're on my list of "would like to meet" folks, too. I will do my best, but things aren't looking good at the moment.

However, if anyone finds themselves in the San Diego area, please let me know. (Those of you on FB can always send me a message.) I currently live in Chula Vista.

You should get another gig out here in San Diego, AZ! Preferably one that doesn't involve you working vampire hours.

I am hoping to be able to make the trip to Seattle work this year. It will be really cool to meet any of you who can make it (it would be cool to meet the rest of you too, but that will have to wait.)

Question for Lynora or anyone else who might know. My wife posted this question on her FB page. I put the same question on mine, but I thought you might know:

"Does anyone have any experience with weighted blankets for a child's sensory issues/Autism/anxiety, etc?"

Thanks!

Weighted blankets don't really work very well for Bryce's sensory issues. He really needs that feeling of pressure, but he can also become super sensitive in certain areas of his body and not be able to tolerate any pressure there at all. At night he tends to meet his sensory needs by hugging his stuffed animals very tightly. When he does want a little extra pressure from his blankets he usually will ask for another comforter. Currently he has five on his bed and he can change how many are actually on him whenever he likes. This seems to work better for him than an actual weighted blanket.

Hope that helps.

Depending on expenses, my lady has a cousin that's due to get married in October in San Diego. I've already pre-warned her that there'll be some people I'd like to get a bite to eat with if we do end up going.

Regardless of online perception, I'm actually very easy to deal with in person.

Thanks, Lynora. This does help. Fortunately, Tasha's case isn't quite so severe. She finds that the weighted vest she can use at school does provide some help, but the school counselor & psychologist have suggested trying a weighted blanket several times a day to help calm her down and keep her focused.

Tasha seems to have more of an anxiety issue, perhaps combined with mild to moderate sensory integration problems. We're still in the diagnosis phase, because a lot of this seems to get worse at school, so there's a huge psychological component, aside from the physiological stuff.

As much as it would be cool to meet a whole bunch of faces in person that I know through Paizo and FB as well as being introduced to new ones, I personally don't want to be gaming 24/7. I want to be ... Captain Adventure! /throws_on_cape_fastened_by_safetypin

That and I'd probably die of alcohol poisoning if I hung out with N'wah. But the evening would be glorious! :P

Finally, I think my girl would have serious issues if I went to Seattle ... and she did not ... and she's has 0% gamer in her ... and would be bored to tears. Which makes it difficult for me.

So I'd have a better chance of heading out your way again. And besides, you guys were great hosts to me. I know Woody, Taig, Sharoth, and Shiny were willing to let me crash back at their awesome suite on a bed for free and I'm sure it'd been ten times more comfortable for me than the couch ... and that you guys are both smokers ... but I had a great time couch surfing those four overnights with you guys. Maybe you guys should post a "significant other entertainment" thread in the Paizocon forum. If enough people request it, perhaps Paizo can arrange some non-gamer activities each day - tourist stuff. I know they're not a huge group, but one of their staff might be willing to play tour guide or help arrange some pro events. There's gotta be enough to near Seattle to keep anyone entertained.

The cafeteria has been serving these low fat specials, so I thought I would try one. Buffalo chicken breasts with mashed potatoes and a side salad (and I got a cookie - okay that ruins the low fat part). Anyway, my chicken wasn't cooked. I took a couple of bites from the thinner end, and then got to a not so good looking part, so I cut further in and it wasn't done. I'm done with that cafeteria food. I took it back and got a refund, because I didn't want any of their nasty food. Now I don't know what I am going to eat. I kept the side salad and the cookie, and I have some crackers, so I guess that will be my lunch.

+1 if you guys give it a go-around. It won't be easy. I'm going to be laying off the hard sauce indefinitely as much as I enjoy it. I think you can understand that one, even though we're different personality types under its sweet embrace. ;-)

That and I'd see a subscription here in your future. *nudge*

I have never been to a con. And Origins is right here in Columbus. And GenCon is in Indianapolis three hours away (or two if I'm down in Cincy that weekend). I would go to GenCon if I could find a way to crash with people I do know. I wouldn't do the whole event; just the weekend.

mm school and work gotta love that combo. Just got a call from the staffing agency and the client company has hit a slow time, so they don't need me anymore. ::marks October down on the calendar...and wonders how best to prepare:: ;)

Looking forward to meeting you Uri!

If I could manage to pull it off where I could pull you, Eric, and Sebastian on the same event, it would be cool. And I promise, there won't be any mention of carousing donkey shows.

This time. :P

Since Sebastian is actually a sentient virtual construct created by Gary, I doubt you'll get to see him.

Eric's involvement in the Witness Protection program restricts his activities, so you might not get to see him either.

Depending on expenses, my lady has a cousin that's due to get married in October in San Diego. I've already pre-warned her that there'll be some people I'd like to get a bite to eat with if we do end up going.

Regardless of online perception, I'm actually very easy to deal with in person.

I thought Gary as a virtual construct as well.

Naah, I think Gary is just the AI that creates all the virtual constructs.

He is the Architect.
