Awesome!

Composers should know to write more densely for trombone. The boredom is what gets t-bone players in such trouble. Those guys are ALWAYS causing problems... throwing shoes, dripping spit valves on other players, etc. They and percussion are the party animals of the band.

That is an unfair stereotype of my low brass bretheren! We are NOT troublemakers!

Howdy, FAWTLies!

I'm busy getting admin work done and listening to my hundreds of Christmas songs on my iPhone! Now playing: "The Chipmunk Song"...the original. Next up, "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" sung by Julie Andrews!

Woohoo for Christmas music!

I never trust IT with my laptop. IT always talks about joining IT in the sewers with the balloons and how everything floats in the sewers. IT scares me.

See this was why I was a percussionist. And of course marching band is more fun, the drums carry it.:)

It has come to my attention that a few bad apples are playing Christmas music well before Thanksgiving. This will not stand. As I write these words, I am mobilizing the few Scrooges I cloned and kept in cold storage exactly for the purpose of...neutralizing...any early Christmas spirit.

Keep it in your stocking until November 25th, folks.

Christmas music has a laxative effect when played before a certain date of the year? Interesting... ;)

In all fairness, it's not like I'm blaring it down the passageways. Of course, anyone who rides in my car between now and Christmas had better be in the spirit of the season! :D

Agh! What is with the Christmas cheer? One more week people, just one more week!
I can only handle one holiday at a time.

Seriously, I used to be one of those annoying people who had way too much holiday spirit (though it was confined to after Thanksgiving by edict of my mother), but now I have such mixed feelings about the holiday because I always get so sad about all the people who aren't around to share it anymore...and of course all the dysfunctional family drama that crops up. There's a reason The Lion in Winter is my favorite holiday movie. :) (Shall we hang the holly or each other?)
I still have a bunch of Christmas music on my ipod, but I deleted most of the really cheerful stuff. Jingle Bells makes me want to punch something. Mostly what I have left is moody sounding traditional celtic carols. Drives my family batty. Which makes it that much more fun for me. After all inducing insanity in one's family members is a Christmas tradition that never gets old. :D

But, but, but...Christmas should live in our hearts ALL YEAR! Shouldn't it?

I usually do wait until after Thanksgiving, but given the fact that I'll be spending half of December underway, I decided to start things early this year. My wife will be slightly irritated by this development in the coming week. ;)

@BT: No worries. 'Tis all in good fun! :D

A few things: Shiny I don't believe you were ever fat, there's now way. Ahh junior and high school band days now that brings back memories. I played clarinet through most of elementary, until I wanted to quit around sixth grade when my teacher thought I would have a better time with bass clarinet. I played that through my junior and HS days. the problem was my school was small so they didn't exactly have the bass clarinet parts for our music so I was often given tenor or baritone sax parts.

I was a big kid, man. I was 180-190 in the fifth grade, up to about 200 in the eighth. When I was a freshie in high school, I got sick of it, and started working out. I dropped down to about 140-150, then started building up muscle. By the time I was a senior, I was back up to 200, but I was five inches taller, and could squat 300 pounds. Almost six years later, I'm down to 170, and have almost none of my muscles left. Damn shame, really. F+@$ing art school...

As far as instruments go, I just up and quit the brass section in eighth grade. Few years later, I picked up guitar and bass, and joined the school choir. ...And now I can't even read music anymore.

I need to work out, especially since my rent includes a free membership to a local gym. but where I am from 200 lbs is nothing. I was 300 by the end of sixth grade. my heaviest days were at the end of my junior year when I topped out at 375, since then I have hovered around 315-330.

I'm sorry man...that sucks. Stereotyping in it's worse form- from the parents. Truly sorry.

I was always a husky dude. I ate a lot as a kid, primarily because I had few friends, an overprotective mother, and liked to read. I was in a bad neighborhood in Brooklyn around the time I'm referring, so going out to play was out of the question, and my mother attempted to raise me to be retiring(and yet macho at the same time...*sigh*). I didn't start losing weight until I did martial arts, at my heaviest I was what...230+? At my lightest I was 195 or so, and I started to notice women checking me out because I was moderately muscled for the first time in my life. Now I'm back to 213 or so, primarily because I don't have the time to get back into the swing of things. I'm trying to, though. I miss walking down the street and having rough characters actively avoid me(not to mention women checking me out).
