I must be the only one who loved the Dark Tower series, he he...yes even the ending...it fit the theme perfectly. then I stopped reading him...well except for the one book Lisey's Story, which I enjoyed.
I have a huge bookshelf of King I just happen to think some of it should be burnt. I will sell them at some point, rather then burn then if only for the cash.

You can get cash for it? I thought he was so prolific that hobos used it to stuff their shoes in winter.

Hobos are too classy to stuff their shoes with Koontz.

It is crazy but some people will spend outrageous amounts for a King novel. a good one can fetch $.75.

So what the hell happened? I missed the tale if you shared it.I was at work and got stung by a bee. The one guy in the building who shouldn't get stung, got stung.
I took my epi pen for I was having trouble breathing, paramedics showed up and I woke up in the ER. I was having a seizure for about 30 minutes.
The GM of the place knew about the beehive for 3 WEEKS. He didn't want to do anything about it except tell me to "stay away from that part of the building". Then they spread into our dry storage. And thats where I got stung.
According to the doctor, I very nearly stopped breathing.
I hate bees, and my GM got a mouthful too. He is VERY lucky Jenny didn't go there, she was (is?) probably going to kick his buttocks.
No, he's the type of douche that won't do anything until something bad happens. Jenny came to get me at work today and he was outside, getting out of his car. I've NEVER seen him move so fast in his life.

Workers Comp. I'm not the type of person to sue at the drop of a hat. if it happens again though, I told him I'd get a lawyer.

Parental controls on the PS3 are your friend.
Edit - So is removing the power cord before you head to bed.
Edit II - OTOH, I do not know if parental controls actually prevent playing a game.
Yes and No. At least on the 360, for the different profiles, you can set an age rating.

It was more the seizure after the fact, mixed with the epi and whatever they put me on to get the swelling down and me conscious.
Yay.
I hate to hear you had that trouble, Mac.
When I read your post earlier at work, I had no idea that "epi" was short for epinephrine until I got home and saw Treppa's post.

It was effed up.
Let me preface this a bit....my dad kept bees when I was a kid, so I know how to handle stings...
So I'm driving i-30, 55 mph, and I see this cloud of what looks like...mud spraying up from the side of the road; I'm like "what's that?" so i hear "TAK! TAK! TAKTAKTAK!" and all I see are insect guts and small, triangular heads on my windshield. Oh. I hit a swarm of bees, or wasps, or something.
THEN,
(I'm sorta allergic maybe don't need epi my mom has epi for stings though)
I feel one crawling in my hair. I've been stung 10 times in 5 seconds by a yellowjacket before, and I couldn't i.d. the species from heads and guts alone. So I says to myself, "I have to grab this thing and crush it with my hand. I will get stung at least once. It may save me from getting stung in the head ten times."
So I grab it. It stings me in the thumb. I crunch it.
I see it's little rosethorn stinger in my thumb; flick it out with the other thumb.
It was a honeybee. They only sting once and die.
So I drove home, took Benadryl, and had a nice nap.

I feel much the same about Mellencamp save that I couldn't sing my way out of a wet paper bag.
That one does look intriguing.

Good night!
My wife wasn't happy with me going to bed at 2 last night, so I'll go to bed at 1 this time. :)
I'm here at the woman's parents. Some movie on TBS with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton with their child being married and it just went past 1am EST. I was informed by her mother that if she wakes up in the middle of the night and I'm still up watching tv, she's going to throw things at me. I'm half tempted to test her, but becoming tired to take a rain check.

Wow. Lotta King bashing going on. I'll be the first to admit that he hits clunkers, but he has made a lot of stories that define late 20th Century horror. I can't think of another author who will be honored as he will be when he's dead and buried. I mean do I have to get out the list?
- Carrie
- Jerusalem's Lot
- The Shining
- The Stand
- The Dead Zone
- The Talisman
- It
- Needful Things
- Delores Clairborne
- The Green Mile
- The Dark Tower Series
Not to mention some of the best short(ish) fiction:
- Graveyard Shift
- The Mangler
- Sometimes They Come Back
- Lawnmower Man
- Rita Hayworth and the Shwshank Redemption
- The Body
- Apt Pupil
- The Mist
- Mrs. Todd's Shortcut
- Word Processor of the Gods
- Gramma
- The Library Policeman
- The End of the Whole Mess
- Sneakers
- The Night Flier
- The Little Sisters of Eluria
- 1408
Now, this is just a small list, and just a few of MY personal favorites, but considering the dreck most authors put out, I would bravely place my SK novels right next to my Poe and Lovecraft ones. Koontz can sit by the Harlequin Romances on my wife's side =P

I think King is a great writer. My issue is that he also needs an editor to help with some of his writing excesses, and I get the feeling that much of his recent work is lightly edited. He also can't effectively end many of his books. The Stand, which is one of my top 10 favorite books had a fairly crappy ending.

Oh yah. I let my rant go off before the caffeine kicked in =D. I have just had this discussion so many times with ivory-tower literati who promote the 'America's Schlockmeister' meme. I even got in a beef with an English professor in the Eighties when he dissed King. I posited that Poe probably got the same dismissal by the reviewers of his time, and time would tell if King rose to the ranks of great authors. I still stand (heh) by that assertion.

One of my partner's friends just got engaged recently, and he offered to do their engagement photos. They scheduled it for this afternoon and afterwards she and her fiancee are supposed to come over for dinner.
I'm planning on making a red wine filet saute with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes.
However, it is raining. They can't do engagement photos in the rain. I hope the whole thing isn't cancelled. Good thing I haven't gone to the store yet.

Charles Dickens' work was done for the equivalent of mass-market publication. So, yeah, I agree, just because King is a prolific writer, it doesn't mean he's a bad writer. Some of his work will hold up over the course of time.
