The Dream Lineup Thread

Comics

I don't know if this is in the tradition of fantasy football or what, but I just remembered how much fun I had with this on another board I used to be a member of years and years and years ago. I don't recall the exact rules, but I think the only hard ones was no crossovers(no mixing your DC with your Marvel, or even companies that are subsidiaries of the big two), no multis(two people being on a team at the same time, as Wolverine humorously pointed out in a recent issue of the Avengers. Wolverine. On the Avengers. No. Just no.) and no homebrewed teams or characters(Sorry Eileen). There used to be a rule against obscure teams, but that one fell by the wayside when it was discovered just how many Alpha Flight/New Warriors/Defenders fans there were out there.

So let's get crackin' people!!!!

Call me dense, but I'm not sure what you're asking for here...

If I had to guess, which I kind of have to do, I'd guess he's asking people to list their dream superhero team.

Yes, dream superhero team lineup. Is there anyway to rename the thread so people aren't confused?

Renaming the thread isn't the issue. You just never explicitly stated what your intention was. Now it's been stated and the thread can carry on. :-)

Well, if that's the case, I'll stick with the classics: The Fantastic Four!

Mr. Fantastic
Invisible Woman
Human Torch
Thing

If we accept duos, I'll also go with Power Man and Iron Fist.

Shadow Lodge

Aunt May's Halfway House for Homeless Orphan Superheroes

Spider-Man
Kitty Pryde
Spider-Woman
Human Torch
Iceman

Civilian Support:
Aunt May
Gwen Stacy
Mary Jane Watson
Kong McFarlane

Ultimate Universe, obviously

X-men:
Ciclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Gambit, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, Iceman, Kitty Pride and Psylocke.
Dream teams for the Avengers and the JLA are going to take some more thought.

Oh! And Fantastic Four: Hulk, Wolverine, Spiderman and Ghost Rider.
And yes that is canon (somewhat).

God that was horrible. It's like someone at Marvel said: What are the four characters that are LEAST likely to team up for any conceivable reason whatsoever?

Are you kidding? That story arc was gold. In honor of the lineup, I once ran a heroclix team using the same four characters and a couple of moloids. It was glorious!

I like obscure teams so I'm going to throw out an alternate lineup for one of my favorites, The Winter Guard (formerly known as The Soviet Super Soldiers.)

Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) as the new Red Guardian.
Gennady Gavrilov aka Crimson Dynamo VIII (because you've absolutely got to have a Crimson Dynamo and Gennady seemed like a natural hero.)
Piotr (Colossus) and Illyana (Magik) Rasputin to continue the Winter Guard's legacy of brother/sister duos on the team (Darkstar and Vanguard were the team's original siblings.)
Bora would need her powers returned and an attitude adjustment, but her ability to summon arctic snowstorms seems like a good fit for a team called The Winter Guard.
Mikhail Ursus aka Ursa Major has been on every incarnaration of the team and I'd keep him on as the team's mission commander.

Obviously, this would have to be an alternate universe or something big would have to happen in MU-616 for Natasha, Piotr and Illyana to return to Russia.

I've had this argument before with others. Without Kyle, GL would have been stuck in a stagnant loop with a grey-haired Hal.

I love all 4 GL's (Hal, Kyle, John and yes, even Guy). You don't have to like Kyle, but you have to see what the character did for the mythos.

Oh don't worry. I HATE Kyle. To me, he will always be "The Boy".

I hate Kyle because there were signs of life in GLdom that Kyle fans love to ignore or, not to be rude, were not old enough or mature enough or out there enough to enjoy. GL Quarterly had some amazing stories, and Mosaic was great philosophy. There were literally THOUSANDS of Green Lanterns available to choose from to inherit the reigns of power, and they decide to go with the Mary-Sue to end all Mary-Sues, enrapturing a generation with snappy pop culture references.

Dark Archive

Mosiac was EXCELLENT, but I didn't read Quarterly enough for an opinion.

But the THOUSANDS of GL's was part of the issue AT THE TIME. Most comic book fans were running away from the series in droves because of all the baggage you had to know about GL to read the series. Granted, I will give you if you wanted to know, you could read back issues.

I was excited for the change, not to kill off Hal or John, maybe a little for Guy ;), but for the stories. For the "Holy crap, this giant space monster is REAL" feel to the stories that came with them.

I was very excited for REBIRTH and was a little worried they might kill Kyle. But they didn't for Johns saw a way Kyle could co-exist with the rest of them and become a better character.
