I'm new to Pathfinder and can use some advice. I'm starting the Kingmaker AP next week and am the last to make a character. So for, the rest of the party includes:
cavalier - mounted combat specialist
cleric - bow specialist
druid - water element specialist
From a pure party balance perspective, what would folks recommend? Within the context of the Kingmaker AP, I was thinking of playing a witch (given the woodsy setting), using a few posts treantmonk posted about build. I'm hoping the druid can handle the front line given the wilderness slant of the AP. Or do we need a meatshield? a skillmonkey?

Actually an arcane caster of some sort would be a nice filler. Or even a rouge.
Ranger is nice to add combat and forest skills
Rouge - stealth, skills, and some magic use
Bard - Interactions with NPCs skills, more magic
Sorcerer - you do not have to min max his spells to have something useful to add
Witch - themed and foresty with magic
What ever you will have fun with.

Well look at what is coverd fist
1. Scouting ????
2. Knowlag skills ????
3. Socal Skills ( Cavalier and Cleric ) I hope any how
4. Traps ????
5. Melee Combat ( Cavalier and Druid )
6. Range Combat ( Cleric )
7. Healing ( Cleric and Druid )
8. buffing Party ( Cleric and Druid ) There not the best but thay can do it some
9. Offencive Casting ( Cleric and Druid )
Rogue ( Scouting, Traps, and melee or ranged combat )
Bard ( Scouting, and Knowlag skills )
Ranger( Scouting, melee or ranged Combat )
you can take just a one level dip in to rogue. This will alow you to do traps.
My personl suggestion is a Ranger 6 Rogue 14. And make a Str base Two Weapon Figthing that can by pass needing a high dex. In my experence any thing past Improved Two Weapon Fighting is a wast.
Using a 20 Point buy. This is a good starting point.
Human Rogue 1
Str 15 + 2 Human = 17
Dex 14
Con 14
Int 11
Wis 12
Cha 10
Pros:Stronger Bouns Feet Extra Skill Points
Con: No Dark Vision
Dwarven Rogue 1
Str 15
Dex 14
Con 14 +2 Dwarf = 16
Int 12
Wis 10 +2 Dwarf = 12
Cha 11 -2 Dwarf = 9
Pros:Tougher Dwarven Axes ( Ranger level 1 ) Dark Vision
Con: Slower

Hi there, I would suggest taking a look at the Inquisitor and Alchemist classes, they cover some of the lacking roles quite well. Otherwise Bard, Rogue and Ranger are excellent choices. Wizard or Witch would also be fun, or even a Sorcerer could work well.
You are lucky to have some defined roles already represented and enough flexibility to play a variety of options and retain a good party balance.

Lots of good ideas. I agree with Mr. Subtle that I'm lucky to already have many of the basic functions covered. Looking at all the posts there seems to be a balance between the advice that recomends caster, or rogue or fighter. I hadn't read about the arcane trickster yet so maybe I'll start my character as a caster and then if traps become a big issue move down those lines with a few levels of rogue. I'm hoping that if there are traps they're more wilderness in nature, for exampe, snares that have a lower DC, as opposed to complex mechanical traps that would require a rogue with a ton of ranks in disable device to manage.
