They pooched it with the second film...Megatron should not have returned Alive from the Trench. The Remains of Megatron should have been recovered by the Deceptacons and the Fragment of the Cube used to Reincarnate him as Galvatron.

With Sam and Optimus Killed the Autobots should have then somehow Acquired the Shard fragment of the CUBE and used it to combine Sam and Optimus Prime into the next Autobot Evolution where Humans become part of the Autobot they merge with.

This would lead to the Third Film where the Autobots and Humans go into Space in pursuit of the Surviving Deceptacons led by Galvatron for a Mars Conflict (where one of the Moons of Mars turns out to be a realy big Deceptacon or their spacecraft).

Yeah they really f-ed it up with the second, but that's no reason the third has to suck. In fact the very reason I'm excited for the third is that the creative team from the second is still on the project and openly admitted some of the mistakes and are trying to rectify them (no more twins yay, hopefully no more ball humor yay, and no resurrections). As long as they don't try to say that there was a cover-up again (god help us all), since you know tourists have video of one of the pyramids being destroyed by some mecha, there's just no way to cover it up (granted I thought the same thing at the beginning of 2 since they had a fight in the middle of a friggen city). While I'm no Micheal Bay fan (Armageddon was one of the most awful films I've ever seen) he really did make an awesome transformers movie with the first one. And while I had a problem with a lot of 2, it still had awesome moments (the fight where optimus died was pretty kick ass), and was a fun popcorn flick (like avatar, shut off your brain and enjoy your eyes because the story is going to suck). I think the problem was just how successful the first movie is, the studio just let Mickey have full reign, which while with some directors it can be awesome, with certain directors full reign ruins the movie (George Lucas, Micheal Bay, etc.)

I just wonder how many Autobots they'll introduce for 30 seconds just for toy promotions (ie: Arcee and Sideswipe...).

I seem to recall that was one of the 'issues' with Beast Wars was they couldn't spam all the transformer toys into the CGI cartoon.

Well I just hope they don't screw him up. G1 Shockwave is my favourite Transformer, in orders of magnitude above all others (except maybe Ravage, whose depiction in the second film I was moderately pleased with).

That shows far more respect to the original source material that these garbage movies could ever hope to follow.

Why were the "mistakes" (how generous) made in the first place? It's not like the horrendous decisions weren't patently obvious.

You say patently obvious as if what's patently obvious is patently obvious :D

If what's patently obvious is patently obvious, we would have no midichlorians, no twins, no ghost rider movie that sucks.

Things that are patently obvious in hindsight aren't so obvious when dealing with creative types in a creative setting. I think the horrendous decision in this instance was giving Michael Bay full creative control. The problem when you do this is one person doesn't have the same sense of patently obvious as a group, and once you have a finished product, even if it's horrible, you've sunk so much money on it that you have to release it anyways to attempt to recoup the loss (Gigli anyone?). In this instance,
a) 2 didn't do as well as hoped so michael bay won't just be given free reign
b) the fan reaction to the twins will keep them from coming back
c) the everyone dies and comes back will no longer be a part of the plot (although as DnD gamers we don't really have a right to complain about revolving door deaths lol).

So yeah, I have hope. It will either turn out to be a huge improvement, or another billion dollar see once popcorn flick. It's not like the franchise has the sheer terror inducing levels of cannon faithfulness that the star wars franchise openly sh%^ upon

I always have a hard time going to the popcorn flicks...it just seems like they could always do something better if they put SOME thought into it, no matter what the subject matter. But instead they go the "other" route and give birth to a turd of a movie, and people go to watch it. Transformers isn't Shakespeare, but that doesn't mean that story shouldn't matter. The first movie was a really really bad movie to me, and even the action scenes were blur-fests. My nephews loved it, but I was bored out of my mind. All I ask for is some substance...sigh. Otherwise the cycle will continue, and more really cool I.P.'s will get wasted with people like Michael Bay at the head of them cranking out pure crap. Oh well just needed to get that out :)

What was really really bad about the first one?

Just personal preferences mind you, but I didn't like the "redesign" of the new transformers, I felt they seemed way too busy. The action scenes I felt were too blurry, you couldn't really tell what was going on, but not in the good way. Like for example Saving Private Ryan had many hand-held cam scenes that were meant to give you that feeling of chaos, but you still could make out the action. TF 1 was just blurry action scenes of autobots and decepticons rolling around and seemed like a jumble of metal. I couldn't really tell what they were doing when enaged up close. Jazz. Dying like a punk...that seemed a bit insulting. Two-dimensional personalities and some stero-types (I know, good for a quick fix to establish character in a short amount of time, but bad none-the-less). The scene where they "sneak" around Lebouf's house all "sneaky" like...I guess it was for the kids, but man that was totally unbelievable. I'm more willing to believe in giant transforming robots with hearts of gold from a far away planet named cybertron, then to believe that really big, metal, 20 ft tall robots stand a chance at "sneaking" around a suburban neighborhood with no one the wiser.
All in all I can't remember everything I disliked about the movie, its been a while, but I do remember being very bored through it all, and I love the transformers. I think it has to do with liking the animated movies grittyness more, nostalgia, a genuine hatred/dislike of Michael Bay, dislike of "remakes", and overall contempt for cinema lazyness.

To be fair, the voice of Optimus helped console me, as well as a fairly good representation of the autobots/decepticons, although I could have used some Prowl/Hound love. Just how I felt about it, and I do not think my opinion is law, just my 2 cents really. I don't think I was really what they had in mind for the target demographic, so I don't really expect these things, but they would be nice. Thats why I didn't see the 2nd one, I felt it wouldn't be for me. To each his own however.

I thought it was cripplingly obvious, michael bay didn't. like i said, obvious to one, isn't obvious to another.

Unless you think micheal bay set out to intentionally create an offensive stereotype to challange peoples perceptions or he actually is a hardcore racist, I don't give him that much credit. I think it was more "Duhr Duhr, I need some comic relief, lets have some ghetto autobots, that'll be hillarious, duhr!"

Believe me, I'm no Micheal Bay fan, but I gotta admit, I loved the first transformers and he's the guy responsible for a lot of it. Hopefully he'll learn from his mistakes, and so will the studio and they'll recapture the lightning they bottled with the first movie.

No prob, I was just curious 'cause I've heard that there's an online backlash against the movie because it has some problems that make it a fundamentally bad movie, and I'm curious as to what those are.

I definitely agree with that premise for the second one, but the first was awesome to me so I'm curious as to why people dislike it (if they have "reasons" that don't boil down to personal preference, anyone can dislike any movie out of personal preference, more power to ya!).

Outside of my personal preferences, as a movie the 1st one wasn't bad, it just was pretty standard fare. I find most movies like that tend to be mediocre or lower based on a lack of originality or a generic plot structure. A lot of times I feel like they could have done so much more, been so much more creative, but hollywood is pretty conservative with risk taking with big budget movies, as they are dealing with tons of money, so the safe bet/easy financial gain wins out a lot I think. The irony of course, is that it takes the risky bet to establish the "new thing" that everyone else emulates, and then you get the same cycle over and over again.

I havnt seen the second movie but general consensus is its worse than the first which means I definetly dont want to see it! I could barely tolerate the first one (mostly for the reasons amael listed above), nostalgia (and megan fox :P) were the only reason I continued to watch it.

I dont mind though, In the end Hollywood is out to make money, which it did, so they must have done something right.

The original animated movie is still vastly superior though (in my opinion) even if it is firmly rooted in the 80's (awesome soundtrack!!!!)

Honestly Starscream made that show for me, he was awesome, and sooooo spinelessly disloyal it was impressive. And now for your viewing enjoyment, some of my favorite Starscream quotes...

Starscream: Who disrupts my coronation?
Galvatron: "Coronation", Starscream? This is bad comedy.
Starscream: Megatron? Is that you?
Galvatron: Here's a hint!
[Galvatron transforms and shoots Starscream. Starscream crackles and falls to dust]

[said with smirk on his face]
Starscream: Oh, how it pains me to do this!
Megatron: Wait! I still function!
Starscream: Wanna bet?
[Starscream lets Megatron's body drift from the open shuttle door into space]

Starscream: [Megatron has been gravely injured in his fight with Optimus Prime] How do you feel, mighty Megatron?
Starscream: [Starscream kicks Megatron]

Starscream: [chasing after Arcee and Springer who are closing themselves inside Autobot city] Pathetic fools! There's no escape!
[BOOM]
Starscream: AH! My foot!

Prezi for Vic:
"You are the technomancer known as Grim Reaper?" The White haired elderly woman looked up from her modified ipad, disconecting the datacable from her purse in a simple motion, and stared at the large Autobot drawing attention to her in the outdoor Café.

"Oh dear...a giant threatening robot...and me a little old lady."
"You tried to hack my sentience...I think my friends would like to talk to you."
A beeping sound came from the purse.
"What was that?" The Autobot had been taken by surprise.
"Hack..." The Autobot collapsed on the Ground and converted into a car. "...Sucessful." Stuffing her ipad in her purse the elderly hacker walked toward driver's side of her new Car.

Yeah...I can see that.
