Hi all, some of you may have seen me mention in DM Sully's games and others that I was thinking about running the next adventure path due out in a couple of month time, Serpent's Skull. However i've found myself wth excess time on my hands and i'm not willing to wait till that AP becomes available; so I will be running the adventure path that brought me to these lovely forums- Kingmaker. I'm a big fan of sandbox style games, and this AP is the best campaign i've seen out there; followed closely by my other favourite, RHOD. I run Kingmaker for my RL group, so i'm very familiar with this AP.

So, apply here with a concept for a character for my Kingmker PBP if your interested. Guidelines are listed below;

Apply with a concept only, race, class, personality, motivations, aspirations etc, put into a spoiler tag in a single post, for my ease of reference. I don't want to see any actual builds out there that you will have spent extra time on, that I have to then say no to. Oh, and an idea of what leadership role you will be gunning for will be nice too.

I am a very frequent poster, and do expect the same of any applicants. If you can't commit to at least checking on the game once a day and making a small post, this PBP won't be for you. I reserve the right to take your character's actions for you if I feel your character is holding up the game.

The party size will be a party of five; assuming I receive enough applicants. The characters chosen will be made with a 20 point buy build.

I enjoy combat, and i enjoy heavy RP. If your not a fan of both, best not to apply.

I tend to post late evening/night/early morning at GMT+0. I am UK based.

All base classes are legal concepts, as are the APG's- with the exception of the Alchemist and Summoner. I'm just not happy enough with those 2 classes yet, sorry.

Some elements of the game may end up being handled on Google Wave; at least the Kingdom building side of things will be recorded on Wave at the end of Chapter 1/Start of Chapter 2.

I will be reviewing applications on Friday, assuming I have a healthy selection to choose from. Thanks for reading :)

On a side note, I apologise profusely for the typo's in this post. My wireless keyboard is playing up on low battery.

Also, any questions? Am happy to answer any queries.

Expressing my interest...Character concept, etc forthcoming in the next couple days.
Started in 2nd ed back in the day, then 3.0/3.5/PF as both DM and player. Never done a PbP, but sounds like a great time :)

:D. indeed I can't. RL games don't sate me enough these days!

I have a Half-elf Ranger I created for another Kingmaker PbP that fell apart after the first encounter. He was aiming for the role of Marshal.

The link is here:
Orin Ro

Here is his bio

Background:
Orphaned at the age of 6, when Chelaxian slavers attacked his border village in an attempt to "repatriate" their former countrymen. Told to hide until the "bad men" were gone, Orin ran into the woods and waited. Orin was found the next morning amid the smoldering ruins, huddled over the bodies of his human father and elven mother, by an old forester who had seen the smoke.
The old man, knowing that the young boy would never survive on his own, decided to adopt him and raise him as his own, teaching him woodcraft and other skills he would need to survive in the wilds.
Life was good for a time as Orin and his "father" hunted wild game and lived off the land. As the young boy grew into adulthood Orin would often hear tales from passing merchants of the river kingdoms where a man could forget about his past and make his destiny his own.
One day while Orin and his adopted father were out hunting they came upon a small caravan being attacked by bandits. Together with the last remaining caravan guard they managed to kill several of the brigands while the others fled screaming dire threats of the "Forest Kings" revenge. After safely escorting the caravan to a nearby village Orin and his father returned to their cabin in the woods. A week later when returning from a hunt Orin noticed smoke rising from the clearing where his home was, too much smoke.
Rushing home Orin discovered his father's lifeless body pierced by a half dozen arrows and the cabin aflame. After extinguishing the fire Orin carried the old man's body into the cabin and laid him on his bed. Reigniting the cabin, this time as a funeral pyre, Orin took his father's bow and waited until the fire had died out.
With tears in his eyes, Orin smeared his face with the soot and ashes of his former life and set out to avenge his second father's death at the hands of bandits. Throughout the next year Orin hunted down those responsible, culminating in the death of the so-called "King of the Forest". Remembering the stories the merchants had told Orin made his way to the river kingdoms and a new life stopping to help those in need and putting paid to those who would prey upon the weak and helpless.
Tired of wandering Orin desperately wants to find a place to settle down and one day raise a family of his own.

My wife and I will look at putting characters together for this. Will have something up about characters on Monday or Tuesday probably. Characters that are tied together in their background welcome or should we avoid that kind of thing?

Difficult question (cheers for the honesty though), in my RL game we had a couple for a while... it didn't work out too good. Basically as long as the playstyle isn't a detriment to the other players or it doesn't feel like 'Team Couple' and 'Team Everyone Else' it should be fine.

I'll leave it up to you; if your confident that you could tie your characters together without souring relations with the rest of the party, then go ahead.

If you both played high charisma character's, you could potentially fill up both ruler slots as King and Queen.

I assume you mean Monday/Tuesday as in today/tomorrow (4:23AM on Monday here for me) rather than next week though? Submissions close this friday.

@Vanulf- Looking pretty good, so i'm assuming the events in your backstory would have happened somewhere in the wilderness a little to the south of Restov, bordering the Stolen Lands (synergises well with your pioneer trait).

Hello Alexander,

I just downloaded the Kingmaker Player's Guide. Will the party all be part of the same charter group? Just curious...

Yes. All the character's will be sent to the same area (the Greenbelt), under the same charter. The other three parties being sent to different areas of the Stolen Lands are NPC's, and your characters knowledge of them is extremely limited unless one of you has a good Knowledge (Local) modifier. Have a good read through the player's guide, plenty of time and it's an excellent read.

Hey, here's my plan for a character...

Character Idea:
Willas Fenborn, Bard

Willas was a child of the River Kingdoms, never remembering who his parents were. The lawless lands were his home, and his companions were the rough-and-tumble thieves and brigands of the area. He was never the quickest blade or the strongest arm, but his earliest memories were of speaking to rapt companions around a campfire, spinning stories out of thin air to drive away the cold and hunger of a bandit's life. His gift for words ensured that there was always a group of bandits happy to take him on an expedition or an ambush - he could at the very least defend himself, and his tales were worth at least a half-share of the profits.

As he grew older, the life of traveling from inn to inn, living by the coppers in his pocket, grew less and less appealing. He traveled into Brevoy, hoping to earn enough in the larger city to live less a life of banditry and con games and more of a living as a legitimate performer. However, his restless nature soon had the better of him, and he instead began being a nomad within the city of Restov, slipping from one slum to the next as the law attempted to catch up with him to make him answer for his numerous cons and unpaid accounts. Finally, when the pressure of the local constables grew too much for him, he took off to the Stolen Lands, seeking his fortune and maybe even his redemption.

Willas is willing to be the Grand Diplomat or the Councilor.

I'm currently playing in a RL Kingmaker campaign, but I have another character concept that I would like to try out (Fighter/Bard aspiring Aldori Dueling master).

If it is not a problem that I may already know some of the AP, I'd be happy to post a detailed character concept.

I'm also Europe based (Denmark, GMT+1) so schedule should not be a problem.

Alex,
Orin was first created for a PFS game that went nowhere and then converted to Kingmaker when the opportunity came along. Originally he was Andorren, but if you want to move his origin anywhere it would make sense then that's fine with me.
Thanks for the consideration.

Not a problem for me, i'll call anyone I think is metagaming at any point anyway. + The way I'll be running it won't be exactly the same... Go ahead and post the full concept.

I know its not Kingmaker, but you were thinking of running Curse of the Crimson Throne for some that didn't quite make it into Sully's game or have you decided to go for this instead? I'm in Kingmaker game at the moment and not sure if its really right to try and enter another. If however you are still considering running Curse of the Crimson Throne soon then I will wait my turn and apply then.

Like you I'm in the UK and generally post at least once a day, probably more, however may miss sometimes at weekends, what with wife, children and stuff.

I was thinking of doing so, but CotCT doesn't appeal to me as a DM. Initially, I was going to wait until the next AP comes out, but I am impatient and I love the kingdom building side of Kingmaker, and the way it empowers players.

Those who didn't get into Sully's or Talomyr's games are welcome to apply; although playing Kingmaker in two seperate PBP's will probably not be much fun for you.

Here is what I worked on. Thanks for the earlier response to my questions. I hope that the information that I have put in is pretty good for the game, I tried reading and thinking about the history of the world and the region to come up with a character background influenced by it. If there are problems or questions about it, feel free to mention them to me. If you are interested in a different character I am certain that I can put one together.

One question that I did have was the applicability of magical crafting feats. I make mention of Wizard being one of the thoughts for the character, the wizard concept places importance on the craft feats. If they aren't available or advisable it isn't a problem, just would be much less inclined to play the wizard ATM, though it already isn't the first choice I think.

Um, enough preamble, here it is.

’Vaysh’:
The close of the Shining Crusade long ago saw many changes in the world, the most widely recognized is the defeat of the Whispering Tyrant and the foundation of Lastwall. An ancestor of mine, Bellacrus, the founder of my bloodline was involved in those battles and served with a very powerful warrior. My ancestors company did not disband after the war, nor did it stay in Lastwall, they instead traveled the lands to ensure that the taint of the Whispering Tyrant had been cleansed, at least they did for a time.

Five years after the end of the war Bellacrus found himself in Absalom with his company, the leader of their company was preparing for the test of the Starstone. Iomedae succeeded at the test, when she emerged she looked to those who had traveled with her for so long and fought in the war. She knew that these men and women’s hearts were pure and devoted to the cause; the Goddess of Valor laid down a duty for her company, to spread across Avistan and guard against the festering of evil, knowing that she would come to their aid if they were to find it.

The company fell into counsel and spoke on the commands of their officer. Days later each of them left Absalom with different destinations, while some of them would travel for a time together, each knew that in the end they would be alone in the land that they would watch over and protect as Iomedae had instructed them.

Bellacrus came to the rolling hills and rich soil of Rostland, the northern most colony of mighty Taldor. Bellacrus swore fealty to the Aldori, becoming known as Bellacrus Aldori. Over the years he rose to prominence in the region and became a lord of Rostland, acting with kindness and benevolence to his subjects but responding to dangers within the land quickly. Bellacrus married and had children, passing both his fief and his sacred duty on to his child.

The children of Bellacrus have all been marked with the sign of Iomedae; a birthmark resembling a sword with a star burst around the hilt. This sign of Iomedae’s faith has kept my family strong with the mission that we were laid down with so long ago, and for countless generations we continued with our divine mandate, as well as with the ruler ship of our fief.

The lands of Rostland have always been prosperous, making excellent farm land, and the ancestral lands of my line are no different. This has traditionally made Rostland an appealing target for brigands and raiders. My ancestors have always been strong in the defense of these lands against these aggressors that seem to surround Rostland. Long ago a threat arose that Iomedae had sent Bellacrus to watch for. Issia, Rostlands neighbor to the North, surrendered to a warlord of the East; with honeyed words they turned his aggression to the richer lands of Rostland while they accepted his foreign dominion. The Dragon Blooded Tyrant found in the heart of Rostland the heart of warriors willing to fight to protect their holdings, in the end, however, my people were crushed under the might of his armies. Even after the defeat of our lands, my ancestor and the bearer of Iomedae’s Mark, stood strong against the invasion, retreating to Skywatch with other staunch defenders of Rostland. Our conqueror raised the entire stronghold, leaving a smoking and charred ruin as the only memory of Rostlands struggle against his rule.

Our line came close to ending that day, but before my ancestor had journeyed to Skywatch he bid farewell to his bride. The two of them only lay together once, but the union was blessed by Iomedae and our line continued on past the destruction of Skywatch.

Rostland was humbled, but still struggled against the will of its new lord. No longer was open resistance to his plans possible, but within the heart of many Rostlanders a fire burned, yearning for a day when they would be able to do something to right the wrongs of this time.

Years later, long after our defeat by the Dragon Blooded Tyrant, his bloodline and the ruling family of what was now known as Brevoy disappeared. The Rogarvia’s, the family of the Dragon Blooded Tyrant, held our lands from us for two centuries; one day they disappeared without a trace from our lands. I was just a child when this happened, but I have learned my history of the subject.
Hope burned anew with some when the Rogarvia’s disappeared from the land. The Suratova’s, opportunistic vultures who had so long ago felt it better to surrender than to fight for their lands, knew the laws of Brevoy and found ways for them to claim control of our lands once again.

Suratova quickly expanded its control over Rostland, as Issia put up little resistance to their control. House Suratova used honeyed words once again, this time promising those who would ally with them power. There was no war this time, there were no battles for the bards to sing of, there was politics.

My family found itself out of favor with the ruling Suratova’s, and we had our ancestral lands stripped of us; something that not even the Rogvaria’s had done. As I have grown up, I have seen the coiling serpent Suratova wrap itself around Rostland threatening its deadly poison to any who do not bow to them.

When my family became dispossessed from our ancestral home we journeyed to the southern border of Brevoy, where the control of Suratova was not as strong. There we struggled against our surroundings to make a life for ourselves. My father, not wishing his children to grow up without proper education and knowing that his sacred duty called him away from home, spent a great deal of his remaining wealth on materials for a ritual to Iomedae. He called upon her to aid him with a proper tutor and guardian for his children in this wild land. Iomedae sent Heart, a being of pure divine energy and radiance, to guide us.

Father left soon after that, to speak against what was happening in Brevoy and find allies that he could. After that I did not see my father very often, though he visited from time to time. The rest of us learned about life on the frontier during the day while we worked, and about so much more at night under the tutelage of Heart.

The my two brothers and I imagined ourselves to be the great heroes of Heart’s stories, we would play and romp through the fields with Heart trailing behind us. Whenever Heart was near, we all felt safe from anything.

The years passed, and there was little change within Brevoy. The Suratova’s had the land in a stranglehold and tensions continued to mount as war between Issia and indentured Rostland became less of a question of if, and more a question of when.

Last fall father returned home for a few days. He spoke with me, eldest of his children and inheritor of his legacy, he told me that he was traveling to the Stolen Lands on behalf of Rostland. When he spoke to me, I knew that something very serious was going on; his tone and demeanor betrayed no information of his mission or intent within the Stolen Lands. He informed me that if he did not return that Rostland would be at serious disadvantage in the coming war. The next day he was gone and headed to the south.

I took to a vigil every night to watch for father’s return from the Stolen Lands. A mile to the south of our stead there was a large rock that provided a view of the lands surrounding our family home. After work was finished, I would walk to the lookout and stay there for an hour past the last sliver of light searching for sign that father was on his way home. I watched as fall gave way to the rains, and then biting snow. The rock became covered with snow and its exposed surface provided no protection from the chilling wind, but still every night I would travel in my heaviest cloak and without light of my own watch for sign of my father. It was one such night when Heart came out to the rock to tell me that father would not be returning.

I immediately began preparing for a journey to Restov, there someone would be able to tell me what father had been doing heading to the Stolen Lands. I looked to my family and told them my intention was to find father, one way or another. Only with him would I return to them. I told my brothers that they were to stay and protect our homestead with Heart, that Iomedae would guide my search for father.

Outlook: I am proud of my home, though my homeland has been taken from me. I was born in the southern reaches of a land known as Brevoy on maps, though that is not the name of my homeland. I am a Rostlander born within the borders of Rostland, a place that has been swallowed by Northern aggression and trickery. It seems that I can do little now to release my lands from the hold of the Suratova’s, but I am working towards that end as Iomedae guides me. I have shed no tears over the disappearance of the tyrant Rogvaria, though I believe that it is but another crime the Suratova’s have committed. I look to the South for signs of my father and aid Rostland while I do so, always trying to follow the teachings of Iomedae and her servant Heart.

Personality: Vaysh is young and hopeful for the future. Despite the environ that she has grown up in she still looks upon the world with some innocence. Though she does not trust the Suratova’s based on everything that she has grown up believing, she is incapable of striking at them with malice until she has proof of their wrong doing. A mission to the Stolen Lands to try and secure them for trade and spawn a Rostland friendly nation seems an ideal mission in her mind. Vaysh holds the faith of Iomedae close to her heart and tries to live up to the values of Iomedae, though she has not experienced irredeemable evil and so does not have the resolve to fight against that yet. She still believes in redemption and favors the use of the carrot over the use of the stick.

Aspirations: Vaysh hopes to find her father alive, though she believes that what Heart has told her means that he died in the Stolen Lands. She wishes to restore her family’s lands in Rostland and separate Brevoy into its two parent nations, though if she is only able to aid Rostland through actions to the south and securing the border she accepts that. If her destiny is within the Stolen Lands she hopes that she can make a home for her family there.

Race: Human.

Class: Um…Bard or Fighter, or Ranger, or Paladin, or Wizard I think. You said not to worry about build so much, so I really didn’t. I have some basic ideas in my mind depending on what class it would be, but felt that all of those might be interesting ones to portray. I think Paladin is the one that I was most thinking about when I wrote it, but can see her represented with other classes. If Paladin, probably would be best for the two of us to talk about what Paladin means so that we are coming from the same page (for that matter what Good and Evil are). No matter what class I would see Charisma being somewhat important stat to the character (though depending on the class would determine how many of those points go to it).

Traits: Birthmark. I don’t know if you are using traits or not, but liked Birthmark for the character, whether it has a mechanical benefit or not. Just thought I might make mention of it.

Leadership Role: As a follower of Iomedae Vaysh would wish to act as Queen of the new nation.

Sir Edric Orlavsky:

Sir Edric Orlavsky LN Human Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 1
A tall hansom man in his early 20’s he is dressed in heavy armor and wields a lance, while astride his horse, and a longsword when on foot. While he may appear to be the very personification of a noble and riotous knight, Edric knows from years of proper upbringing that in order to rule one must be able to make the hard decision, the decision someone blinded by the ideas of good could never make.
The oldest son of Baron Drevon and Baroness Sewllet Orlavsky, first cousins of Lord Poul Orlavsky, head of the Orlavsky House, Edric has lived a blessed life. As a young boy he began his instruction in preparation to join the Knights of Eagle Watch, a distinguished order of Cavaliers headquartered within his family’s holdings. His completion of the training and initiation in the order was the most glorious day of Edric’s life. Eager to make a name for him-self, Edric approached his uncle pledging his services to the lord and, as luck would have it, his uncle had just the job for the young knight.
As the tensions between the noble houses of Brevoy escalated, House Orlavsky found itself in a difficult position. One of the few houses to openly refuse House Surtova’s claim on the Dragonscale Throne, they are in desperate need of allies. Upon learning of Rostov’s plans to reopen the old trade routes in the Stolen Lands they saw an opportunity. Hoping that by support their venture into the Stolen Lands House Orlavsky would find an ally in the Rostland Swordlords, arrangements were made and Edric was sent south to accept a charter from the Lord Mayor of Restov.
While on his mission for the Lord Mayor, Edric has also been tasked reporting back to Lord Poul all developments within the Stolen Lands as well as possiblely securing an alliance between the Swordlords of Rostov and House Orlavsky.

Possible Traits: Rich Parents, Noble Born

Really nice bio :) thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I assume your wife will be posting seperately?

Evan:

I like the backstory, traits-wise we'd need to tweak them a little bit if Edric was played. Details below.

A couple of questions have come up and i'd like to address these publicly rather than in spoiler tags.

The game moves at the player's pace, and crafting feats are heavily encouraged by me. A magical crafter is well suited to this campaign, especially from chapter 2 onwards. Kingmaker is designed to run over years of in-game time. Also, even while exploring/adventuring, you can get 250GP of crafting done per night.

I will be allowing two traits per character; one of them MUST be from the Kingmaker player's guide, the other is fairly flexible but there are a few I will not be allowing; Rich Parents and Heirloom Weapon (there is some flexibility on this second restriction if its vital to your backstory, but you won't be getting the RAW trait). there are other traits I have minor house-rules on, but i'll make you aware of them when you make your characters.

This looks very interesting, will be writing something up and submit by Friday, for sure.

So, here we go:
Name: Yakov Rogarvia
Race: human
Class: Cavalier or paladin

Personality:
Honest, straight forward, a person who takes responsibilities, this is how you would best describe Yakov. If anyone needs help, he would be there for him. Being of a noble family he knew, he had responsibilities. Often he can be seen riding through the wilderness into the smaller villages around. He was approachable for help, and the commoners liked him. He had learned, that having the support of the “small” people could help your tasks in running an estate as theirs.

Motivations:
He has seen unlawfulness and what it leads to. Law and order are an essential part of the community and important to be upheld. He sees himself as a caretaker of the commoners. If unguided, they would fall into darkness and chaos. As he is a knight, he will be able to help them, and wherever his rule would be needed, do it with compassion and straightforward.

Aspirations:
Having been raised as a noble, he ventured forward and looked for other things to achieve. He found himself drawn to Restov, and the school of Aldori swordmanship. And when he was not seen riding through the surrounding villages, he was training hard to improve his swordmanship. He became determined to join their ranks and add the title of Aldori swordlord to his name. Having heard about the expedition into the Stolen Lands, he would be able to proof himself as a worthy family member of his house and additionally this would open up his chances to join the ranks of the Aldori.

Background:
Despite being considered a noble Yakov is not a noble person. He is an orphan, born under stars of good and bad omen at the same time. His mother was a prostitute, who became pregnant but could not afford to have a child and did not want him. Her first inclination was to throw him into the river, but then she changed her mind. With the newborn in her arms she ventured to the hold of the Rogarvia family, and deep in the night left the newborn at the backdoor. She did not know about the drama which unfolded inside the house and how this baby boy would turn the fate of a family. Lady Ulvania was pregnant, but had a stillbirth. She nearly died during the process. As the midwife ventured out to look for help, the baby boy was found on the steps. She took the boy and handed him Lyov, and then went out to get the doctor. Lady Ulvania was saved, but it was clear, that she would never again be able to receive children. The little boy was kept in the family, and over days, the couple decided to adopt him as their own child. The doctor and the midwife were pledged to secrecy, and Yakov became their official son. He was raised as a noble of their kind, getting all the attention of the family and education. As this secret was never revealed to him, he never understood why he was more drawn to the common people, and why his heart was beating for them. His parents seemed a bit sad about his tendency, but it was just as he felt. At school, he hardly made friends with the high born nobles. He hated their snobbery attitude, and their thinking that everything belongs to them, without having responsibilities. He saw all the land and people working for his family as an obligation, something to be taken care off, and not to be exploited to his own right.
Early on, he was given the task, to administer to the common folks, and thus he had ample opportunity to ride out into the surrounding country side and engage with the people. Soon he discovered, that he could not always be gentle and generous, but he stroke a good balance and was well liked by the people. And he enjoyed his position and the responsibilities he had. Nevertheless, something was missing. He wanted to achive something on his own, despite his name.
Soon he discovered the Aldori swordman school in Restov. Being of the Rogarvia house he had many contacts to members of the school. He admired them for their swordmanship and trained hard in his spare time to join their ranks. But never he achieved the standard he thought would be necessary to join their ranks, as he had high aspirations on himself.
But now he had heard about the expedition into the stolen Lands. He asked for permission from his father to venture out on his own, to strike his own name in the stolen ands, and maybe able to expand the rule of the family. His father reluctantly agreed, he did not want to loose the only heir of the family. But he understood, that Yakov needed to make a name for himself. And also, expanding the families influence would be a big advantage too.

This looks very interesting, will be writing something up and submit by Friday, for sure.

So, here we go:
Name: Yakov Rogarvia
Race: human
Class: Cavalier or paladin

** spoiler omitted **...

The backstory is fine with one notable exception; the entire Rogarvia noble line disappeared a few years ago- its a fairly plot critical event i'm afraid. Being from any other noble house could work.

Alright, didn't know this, just looked at the map, and it made sense as being close to Restov. Lebeda might work best then, or?

Btw., can post very regular, especially as being in the same timezone as you, up north in Scotland.

Lucky, such a beautiful countryside and wonderful people from the visit that I had there...and highland cattle are so much more entertaining than American bovines.

Worth knowing. Any of the noble houses listed in the Kingmaker Player's Guide are completely feasible.

Alexander,
Thanks for the feedback I'll look over the traits again. I would consider heirloom weapon but I just used that trait building my PFS character and hate to be redundant. Would it be possible to keep the Rich parents trait but drop it down to 300gp? I did a mock-up of Edric and it would be nice to have some extra cash for odds and ends, stuff to make him seem more like a Noble and not your standard adventure. Or maybe something similar to the Brigand trait,
Blue Blood: +100gp and +1 on Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate and Sense Motive when dealing with Nobility and people of stature (GM's discretion).
Thanks,
Evan

Barator,

My feelings as well, I've been to over 20 different counties and never have I found a place where I felt more at home that in Scotland. If it weren’t for the fact that my whole family is here in the states I would move there in a heartbeat.
Evan

Lucky me, I know =). And I am also just an "addition" to the country, so, unfortunately I don't have the nice scottish accent, but the harsh German one - which never disappears, sigh.

Looked through the families, Lebeda might be closer, but I like the Medvyed's family motto more, probably you will need a lot of endurance in the Stolen Lands.

Master Kilcoyne,

In this profile you will find the information regarding my character submission for this wonderful-sounding campaign. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to let me know!

This would be feasible. As for Heirloom weapon, my house rule on it is that it will not grant you a weapon proficiency for a weapon you would not be proficient with by virtue of your class or race; the +1 trait bonus to attack rolls and the free masterwork weapon part are ok with me; although tha trait bonus will not stack with the trait bonus from Sword Scion, in case anyone was thinking of taking both. I am shocked Heirloom Weapon is permitted in PFS I must say.

Thanks Felix, i'll consider it on Friday along with the rest :). I'll admit I was expecting more applicants...

Submission for Human Cleric of Iomedae, but Paladin could work as well.
I live on the east coast USA, but was born in the UK! Can post quite a few times a day since I work on a PC all day as well as home posting.

Background:

Malthir Al’ Dragon

Our swords met as I tried to press my advantage. My brother had let his defenses down and had paid the price. A large knot was already forming where my wooden practice blade had met his exposed thigh. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew Aroden was letting me stay in the contest but even the best of swordsmen can let their guard down. What Aroden had over me in skill, I knew I could match with my determination, or at least I believed. It was the happiest time of our lives. I was 15, Aroden was 17 and the world was laid before two young nobles.
I had always wanted to be that great warrior, the hero of old slaying dragons and rescuing the princess’s. Life isn’t always that simple, I was not the oldest. My brother, Aroden, was to be the hero. Although my father had failed to become an Aldori Sworldlord he was determined to see that Aroden would succeed where he had failed. As my father entered the courtyard, Aroden took advantage of my slight distraction and quickly brought his blade down on my hand and removing the sword from my grip. “You should know better than to let your surroundings get the better of you Malthir!”, my father chastised me. He beamed that day with confidence and happiness. “Today we have received great news! Aroden has been accepted into Garaleus’ academy! Our house and line of the Dagon family can finally be secure. Jealousy swelled up inside of me as I looked at my smiling brother. I was not mad at his good fortune, just jealous that it was not me. He turned to me, “Malthir, I have a great burden to place on you. You are to be the one to help our family in a great way.” I imagined helping Aroden or being placed into military service, but when my father told me of my fate I was disappointed. “You are to join the church. The priests of Iomedae have agreed to help us get Aroden into the academy in return for your dedication to the church.” Aroden had later pleaded with me not to be mad at him, he had no idea what father was doing and had even gone to him and asked him to stop this, but the decision was already made.

A month later, the day after my 16th birthday, I left for Brevoy. When I arrived at Brevoy a week later I was surprised by the building I was led too. This was not a typical Chapel, this was a fortified manor. I was led to a side entrance in back. When I walked through the small gate I came into a practice yard and stables. Several men stood around and watched as another group of younger men practiced with blades and maces.
A stern looking middle aged man approached, clad in priests robes but with a longsword at this belt. “Well, you must be Malthir, I have been looking forward to meeting you, my name is Faramain. I am the high priest of Iomedae. Are you surprised by what you see?” When I explained to him that I had expected to come to a cloistered chapel to be henned over by a group of old priests he laughed and said that many expect that when they come here. We walked to the dorm area as he described that most of the people here were either warrior priests or Paladins, a type of holy warrior.
Over the next two years, Faramain and several other priests introduced me to Iomedae. My eyes opened up to an entirely new world, something beyond the sword. I began to master a belief in a higher power, one that would bring me an inner strength. After my 17th birthday, my studies started to include weapons and armor training again. I was already a good swordsmen but compared to the Paladins, we spent only a few hours a day on the training but it didn’t matter anymore because I believed.

2 years later my boots echo’d through the halls of house Dragon. The house seemed much emptier since my childhood. Gone were all of the teachers, retainers and hangers on that followed noble children. Now just the quite halls of a minor noble house in decay, I thought to myself.
Malthir was curious to this summons. It had been 3 years since he had seen his father. 3 years since his father had packed him off at the age of 16 to the seminary of Iomedae in Brevoy. Aroden and I were close, we had trained together from the age of 8 until I was committed to the seminary. He begged me to forgive him when he was sent to the academy and I was not. He was my brother so although I felt sorrow for myself, I was happy that he would flourish.

I walked into my father’s study and looked at him. He had aged ten years in the three that I had not seen him. I didn’t blame him for not coming to see me, he was spending a lot of time at New Stetven, working on behalf of our family. He was also drunk. I could barely believe the state of him. This was not the father I had left over three years ago.
“Father, you have summoned me?” He finally noticed that I had entered the room and looked at me curiously. He didn’t recognize me at first. Not many did. Gone was the skinny lad who left for the temple, now replaced by a warrior priest, clad in chainmail and longsword. I didn’t need my father’s dreams anymore, Iomedae had filled the void of my childhood dreams.
“Malthir, is that really you? I hardly recognize the man you have become. Too long did I ignore you, too many wrongs for one lifetime…”
I stood there while he seemed to be struggling through his thoughts. In the past I had always waited for my fathers leave to sit or go and realized how easy it was to fall into my old patterns.
“May I sit father, and you can tell me why you have brought me here?”
“Yes, yes of course sit…let’s get to it then. We are ruined. When I was in Stetven last week I received some grave news. Your brother has been killed. It appears that someone challenged his honor in a duel and he was killed. There it is, that is the end of it. What is left of our familie’s money went into Aroden’s apprenticeship and there is nothing left. Not only have I lost my son but I our house is finished. I am to sell our manor and lands to pay off our debts and try to make something of what is left.” I sat there in shock while I absorbed the news of my brother’s death. I said a silent prayer to Iomedae and steadied myself. I had never seen my father this vulnerable and I could tell he was on the edge of collapse. “Father, what the gods have deemed necessary we must bear. I am saddened by what had happened to my brother and our family but how can I help?”
“You sound like a priest son, albeit you don’t really look like one. 3 years ago I laid a heavy burden upon you, one I regret but felt I had to place upon you. Now I must ask you to try and bear another. The Swordlords were also saddened by the loss of Aroden, he was a promising student. They have decided to grant a charter to our family, a right of exploration and travel in an area of the stolen lands to our south.” He pushed the writ across the table to me. “You must accept this task, the Swordlords have heard of you and said that they plan to send you south with a group of other adventurers to secure this area from the monsters and bandits that now flourish in the Stolen lands. It is the only way to continue our family name.”
I thought about the writ and at that moment I didn’t really care very much about our family name. I did love my mother and father though, and I wouldn’t let my brother’s name be forgotten. It wouldn’t be hard for me to convince Faramain to let me go, the thought of taming a wild land in Iomedae’s name as well as the formation of a possible stronghold in his name would be enough for him to release me from my training, although he probably wouldn’t agree that I was ready. I wasn’t sure that I was ready myself, I was only a “Seventh Sword Knight”, the 2nd lowest rank behind a youth who was just starting, but Faramain had said since my second year of training that few had caught on so quickly and been so blessed by Iomadae so I knew that this was a sign that it was time to act.
“I will do this father, don’t think it is just for our family’s name, but it is for our families honor as well as Iomedae’s.”
My father then laid a beautiful longsword and scabbard on the table. “This was your brother’s, I want you to have it. May it help you in your quest.”

Physical Description:
6 feet tall
185lbs
Blond Hair
Blue eyes

As a priest of Iomedae, Malthir takes his appearance very seriously, so he looks clean all of the time as well as keeping his armor polished and tabard neat.

Traits
Sword Scion - Sword Scion: You have lived all your life in and around the city of Restov, growing up on tales of Baron Sirian Aldori and the exploits of your home city’s heroic and legendary swordlords. Perhaps one of your family members was an Aldori swordlord, you have a contact among their members, or you have dreamed since childhood of joining. Regardless, you idolize the heroes, styles, and philosophies of the Aldori and have sought to mimic their vaunted art. Before you can petition to join their ranks, however, you feel that you must test your mettle. Joining an expedition into the Stolen Lands seems like a perfect way to improve your skills and begin a legend comparable to that of Baron
Aldori. You begin play with a longsword or Aldori dueling sword and gain a +1 trait bonus on all attacks and combat maneuvers made with such weapons.

Natural Born Leader - You’ve always found yourself in positions where others look up to you as a leader, and you can distinctly remember an event from your early childhood where you led several other children to accomplish a goal that each of you individually could not. All cohorts, followers, or summoned creatures under your leadership gain a +1 morale bonus on Will saves to avoid mind-affecting effects. If you ever take the Leadership feat, you gain a +1 trait bonus to your Leadership score.

Motives:
Malthir believes in tough justice. As an agent of Iomedae, he feels it is within this right to dispense this justice. Bandits and thieves are to be shown no mercy as they should set an example for others that might follow this path. Evil is to be rooted out and destroyed. He believes in helping the common folk and spreading the word of justice through Iomedae. This writ is Iomedae’s way of testing Malthir and he now believes it is his sacred duty to bring her law to that lawless land.

This has been a surprise to me as well. Whenever I would get up in the morning and browse to see if there was a PbP recruiting, most of the time it would have been up for 3 hours and 10 people would have dog piled on it already. And I would simply sigh in frustration when the GM said "This is first come, first serve."

Maybe there are just a lot of Kingmaker games going?

Actually I read the post a few days ago, just been working on the character since then. Thought I might as well make it a really well thought out post before I posted :)

Hopefully will get to it in a day or two.

I did a count earlier and saw something like six others already in progress. Of course Alexander saying frequent posters could be scaring off people too, basing it on the rather quick start we had in DM Sully's Kingmaker game.

Perhaps :P but i'd rather scare off posters who can't commit to the game early than chase them off with my stick when they aren't meeting posting requirements. Good to know people are seriously considering concepts, there's been some really good reading to be had so far :)

Looks like a party of nobles is heading into the Stolen Lands so far :D

I'd love a chance to play in this game, I'm also posting from GMT at least once a day (except some weekends, such as this one when I'm going to UK Games Expo). I was previously in a Kingmaker game, but it fell apart after the first encounter, and I've had a glance at the kingdom building rules in book 2 for another campaign.

The character I'd like to play is Fenna Thistleswade, a LN bleachling oracle(stars or nature).

Fenna Thistleswade:
Fenna was once, before the death of her god, a highly respected prophetess, penning countless scripts telling of her divinely inspired visions. Her faith was her passion, and her prophesies a manifestation of that, but when Aroden’s greatly anticipated return instead resulted in his death, something within her broke.

With the death of her passion—something that is required to sustain all gnomes—she succumbed to the horrible condition known as The Bleaching. Physically, the manifestation was slow, her once brightly coloured hair began to fade to a stark white, while her eyes and skin fell into an almost lifeless grey. The mental impact however, was far from slow, and not limited to just The Bleaching, in the instant Aroden died, shattering a thousand lifetimes of prophecy, so too did her mind shatter.

The human priests, distraught over the loss of their god, knew little of the ailment that struck Fenna, and without their divine magics could do little to help her. Seeing little alternative, they sent her to live amongst an enclave of her own kind within the Gronzi forest. There she has lived in seclusion for the last century, being cared for by the closest thing that exists to experts on The Bleaching. Over the years, her mental state stabilised under their diligence, and while she has still not recovered to her former self, she is capable of holding mostly coherent conversations, and for the most part can care for herself. Indeed, for the last fifty years, her condition has been such that her caretakers allowed her to roam briefly into the surrounding forests, perhaps there to find something fresh to hold her interest. While the miraculous results—only half hoped for—did not materialise, not long after beginning her ventures Fenna did meet a young boy, doing some wandering of his own. His name was Galen Medvyed, and his youthful curiosity brought Fenna the nearest thing to joy she had felt in a long time. The two have remained good friends ever since, though Galen’s visits have dwindled in recent years, due to his responsibilities to his house.

Several months ago, Fenna received a letter from Absalom, containing some of her own prophetic writings. At first she seemed to dismiss the letter as a cruel reminder of better days, but on a recent night—perhaps by coincidence alone, the same night that Akiton was visible in the night sky, floating amidst the Empty Throne constellation—she quietly packed her belongings and left the enclave that had been her home for a century.

Before taking her leave, she left a note for those who had helped her, explaining where, if not why, she was going. For Galen she left another note, containing just a single phrase: "The stars, they are dancing again."

Trait wise, I'm thinking of Noble Born(Medvyed) and Zealot from Gnomes of Golarion. (Noble Born for her friendship with Galen (this might tie in with Yakov's background if he ends up being of the Medvyed family), and while half of the Zealot trait was kind of reversed when Aroden died, I think it fits.)

Here is my petition. It took a bit longer to get done than I figured, but I hope it is good enough to win me a spot.

Name: Casimir Bodevski
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Class: Fighter/Bard
Traits: Sword Scion, Magical Knack (Bard)
Leadership role: Ruler or Grand Diplomat

Personality:
Casimir is both charming and witty. He often adopts an easy-going manner and usually enjoys the company of several friends and hang-arounds. He has a talent for getting his way, mostly through charm and grace, but also sometimes through subtle intimidation and manipulation. Leadership comes naturally to Casimir, and he often leads by example, being dedicated and hard-working about the tasks he undertakes. He is bright enough, but his overconfidence and sharp tongue has been know to get him into trouble from time to time.

Motivation:
Casimir is driven by a desire to be among the best, both when it comes to swordplay and the dealings of diplomacy. He is happy that his birth as a younger son has granted him the freedom to pursue this path, while his older brother assists his father in running the family merchant business. Casimir idolizes his uncle, a well respected bard with a reputation as a skilled diplomat and spy.

Aspirations:
To Casimir, the call for adventures to explore and settle the Stolen Lands were a godsend. Having spent the previous couple of years training in a dueling school in Restov, the expedition is the perfect way for him to fulfill his desire for both adventure and intrigue. Casimir knows that once the wilderness has been tamed, a different kind of struggle will begin - one of political dealings and shifting alliances. He feels confident that he has the skills to rise high within the ruling class of the fledgling nation - or perhaps even rule himself.

Background:

Bodevski estate, Brevoy - early autum 4700 AR

Casimir watched from the shade with the rapt attention that only an 11-year old can muster as the two men circled in the courtyard. The larger of the two was armored in a breastplate and wielded a heavy shield and longsword. His opponent was a slender man in his mid-thirties, who wore a light chain shirt and brandished an Aldori dueling sword in one hand.

The armored fighter was Gregor Orlev, captain of the Bodevski caravan guards and a hardened veteran of numerous fights with brigands, highwaymen and wandering monsters. The man with the Aldori blade was Stanislaw Dividov, renowned storyteller and singer, arbitrator of shady deals, adviser to dukes and barons and even agent of the new king Surtova of Brevoy from time to time. He was also Casimir's uncle.

The two men had sparred for almost half an hour - and Stanislaw was losing. The heavily armored guard captain was slower that the lightly armored man, but his footing was sure and his guard held high. Even though Stanislaw could make the dueling sword strike faster than a snake, Gregor always caught the strike with his shield or sword, and often returned a sweeping counterstroke that sent Stanislaw jumping backward to avoid getting hit.

When Gregor pushed the attack, Stanislaw was forced to retreat backwards in a semi-circle, parrying left and right as he went. He dodged under a high stroke, trying to catch the guard captain in the flank, but Gregor neatly sidestepped and raised his shield in anticipation of the next attack. Stanislaw eyed his opponent for a second, and then took a step backwards, out of the range of Gregor's blade. He reached into his pocket and rubbed something between the fingers of his left hand while he mumbled a few quick words in a language Casimir did not understand.

Suddenly, the tight packed earth of the courtyard turned to a slippery sludge beneath the feet of the guard captain. His heavy boots slid outward, and his armored body hit the ground with a wet thud. Before he could collect himself, the tip of Stanislaws blade rested on his chin.

Gregor let out an annoyed grunt between clenched teeth and took the outstretched hand Stanislaw offered him. "Cheater!" he muttered, as the bard hoisted him to his feet. "You are too good a swordsman for me to beat you in a fair fight, Gregor", Stanislaw laughed. "I have to cheat to stand a chance." The two clasped hands, and the guard captain turned to leave.

As Stanislaw headed back toward the the mansion, Casimir caught up with him. "Uncle Stani?" he asked. "Yes Casi, what is it?", his uncle replied. "If you knew all along that Gregor could beat you in a swordfight, then why didn't you use your magic on him to begin with?", Casimir asked, clearly puzzled by the way the training match had ended. "Because the purpose of the match was for me to train all my skills, not just my magic. If you do what I do, you must master spell, sword and a sharp tongue equally well." Casimir pondered his uncle's reply a bit. "You certainly gotto a sharp tongue. Mama says you could talk a troll into sharing his lunch with you."

Stanislaw grinned. "She said that, did she? Seems I'd better have a talk with my dear sister about what she is telling her children about me."

"Uncle Stani, could you teach me to fight and do magic?", Casimir asked. Stanislaw looked at his nephew. "Well, to learn to use an Aldori blade, you have to attend one of the dueling schools in Restov. Gregor can teach you the basics you need to get in, but to master the blade, you need formal training. As for the magic, that comes from within. I suppose I could teach you a few tricks, but you will have to find it for yourself. But swordfighting and magic won't be of much use to you if you are going to become a merchant like your father."

Casimir made a face. "I don't want to be a merchant. Joseph can do that, he spends all his time with his abacus anyway."

"No uncle Stani - when I grow up, I want to be just like you!"

I have a char concept that I would like to submit, but in the spirit of full disclosure, I am slated to begin this AP as the DM in a few weeks. I would love to be able to take part of it as a player, as I have been playing/mainly DMing for almost 25 yrs now, but understand if it would make you feel too uncomfortable with me having the knowledge of the books.

However if you might be comfortable with it, I will get cracking on submitting the concept tonight.

Either way it goes, I will look forward to following this game once it starts.
