Wereweasels

Rules Questions

So I was just kind of curious about this, would a Wereweasel automatically grapple if it bites someone?

Silver Crusade

Would assume it'd have to be like any other monster's Grab to try and keep applying a certain type of natural attack damage each round. In older editions, yeah, a dire weasel could latch on until dead if it hit.

Free action grapple attempt with no AoO, next round if it maintains the grapple automatically does bite damage.

The beastiary says "Attach (Ex) When a weasel hits with a bite attack, it automatically grapples its foe, inflicting automatic bite damage each round."

...well hell..I wanna be a wereweasel...

I'm assuming that means yes :P I just wanted to make sure because I was thinking about having a Wereweasel be the BBEG on a train. The reason I need that ability is so he can burst through the window, bite someone then drop them on the ground the next round (while the trains still moving) and get back on the roof of the train.

They retain all special abilities..so yep..Mr weasel retains his attach ability.

Mwhahaha

Well, RAW does back that statement, but RAI doesn't, so it really comes down to choice.

The attach ability (for both weasels and stirges) allows a tiny creature to get around grapple rules that would make them impossible to use grappling.

I'd give a medium sized wereweasel grab, because that's reasonable. Small sized, well, maybe. Again, this is all preference.

Dark Archive

Don't know for sure, but I think that medium humanoids can't become wereweasels. Only small, tiny or diminutive humanoids can become wereweasels.

You're right, under the rules for making lycanthropes it says they have to be within 1 size category of the base creature. Although the Wererat in the Beastiary is medium which kind of contradicts the lycanthrope part so I may just hand wave that since I'm the DM :P

Dark Archive

Actually, Wererats are based on Dire Rats, so there's no contradiction.

It may seem balanced, but its not.

-or-

If you think its ferret isn't.

:P

O. Maybe he's based on a Dire Weasel then.

But, but... There's no such thing as a dire weasel in Pathfinder.

Well then I guess he'll have to be a Weretarrasque

Just take the weasel, add the giant template to it, and voila! Dire Weasel :)

Shadow Lodge

Go with a halfling wereweasel and show your players what quick death is all about!

Dex bonus, natural armor, and size bonus should make his AC pretty high. And don't a few magic items resize to fit the owner?

Mwahaha.

That's where things begin to become a little different, the Assassin is known for tearing people to shreds and covering himself in blood, not to mention all the races (other than human) in my game are home-brewed. I was actually going to make the wereweasel human though because he needs to be able to pull people out of train windows after grappling them.

Then it's time to GM up and say this is what happens, and then everyones favorite words: "Roll for Initiative..."
