How much info about drow to fresh players?

Second Darkness

So, I have virgin players (who really don't know much about drow) headed to Endless Night. How much info elves are able to give PCs about drow and their habits before going through portal? They have learnt a little during previous parts as I have given some information from two journals found previously. Few pages from Drow of Golarion in Armageddon Echo? Something from Into the Darklands?

Edit: Or should I just be evil and let them learn the hard way...

What little the elves know about the drow, they don't want anyone else to know about, hence the Winter Council. As a DM, I would just let them go in based on what they already know. Yes, it will be tough, but smart players will realize they're going into dangerous territory and try to fit in. If you want to be nice, just give them a quick talk outside of the game and let them know that in this portion of the game they're trying to get information and need to keep their cover. They should keep their eyes and ears open and "do as the Romans do."

Man that could be alot of fun with players who don't know anything about Drow. My whole group has been playin for all of 3.5 and then some so they are well up on Drow

It would be fun. I had a blast last weekend when my players had their big battle against the akata in the old tower. They kept begging to make knowledge rolls, and I let them, but the DC was so high--given their rarity and not being from the planet--that they had no clue what they were facing. It made things more exciting. The same could be said for the drow with new players. I still remember the first time I ran the old D1-3 modules in AD&D first edition. Introducing new bad guys that players don't have prior knowledge of is always fun.

That said, I think there are still enough differences between Golarion drow and "classic" dark elves that there should still be times when the players are left guessing.
