Liberty's Edge

I keep hearing great things about this. This is the book from Green Ronin that Paizo often uses for monsters and templates right?

Is it still available? Can I get a PDF?

Is it 3.5? Is it OGL?

Is there or will there be a Pathfinder version?

I know, lots of questions but I'm really interested in this product!

Thanks

Scarab Sages

It is OGL. I just bought a PDF copy yesterday from RPGNOW. It's a little under $20 for the PDF and that's the main place I know to find it. Paizo doesn't seem to carry the PDF.

Its going on Ebay for about $35 for a hardbound copy.

Liberty's Edge

So what is your opinion of it? Are there templates and monsters?

Assuming there are monsters, they are all OGL?

Every thing in the book is a template that will change the CR -4 to +4.

There are a lot of incrediblly cool templates in the book, but a fair number of ones that I'm not likely to ever use. Just depends on what you like.

The book essentially consists of nothing but templates and example creatures which are "Template + base creature from the SRD" to give you an idea of how it works. While there are some templates I found lacking (Elemental Infused didn't do much for me), others, like Amalgam, Blood Knight, Bramble, Devil-bound, Icey, Metal-clad, etc. have all added greatly to my game. As a resource for templates to be applied by DMs, it is certainly useful. If however, you plan on just using the sample creatures, you might find the book...well, not exactly wanting, but strange. I'm not sure how often I'd actually use an Amphibious Praying Mantis or Gigantean Dream Creature Chaos Beast, or a Transforming Construct ship/trebuchet golem, or a Quadropedal Succubus. Your mileage may very, of course.

Green Ronin does have it avilable via LULU.com

Casebound $50.00

and

Perfectbound $35.00

My adoration for this sourcebook knows no bounds. Some creatures made with templates from the AB are here. And yes, it's all OGL. :D

Sovereign Court

During my 3.5 DMing days, this was the #1 3rd party book. The templates are amazing, and while not all are better than sliced bread, there are enough in there to make it worth twice it's price. The Dread <undead> templates are nearly worth the price alone, not to mention the fact that they also can be toned down to make standard undead.

Liberty's Edge

I'm going to have to find a copy then!

All these warm and fuzzy feelings does beg a question though ... I wonder why Gree Ronin does not keep this in print or at least offer the PDF here through Paizo. For that matter I wonder why they don't update it for Pathfinder? Sounds like it would be easy to do and would be a good seller ..

i get the feeling that Green Ronin is pulling away from d20 totally. The only thing they have that is still in production like that is Mutants & Masterminds. Other than that they seem to be producing more things that have their own rules system. M&M is different enough from regular d20 anyway.

Not totally

Oh yeah, forgot about that!! That's cool, but they have really lowered their d20 'footprint' in the last couple of years.

Marc,

Best hardcover price I saw was at Amazon.

If the Pathfinder version of the Freeport Companion does well, I'm sure we'll see more Pathfinder material from Green Ronin. I'm hoping for the Advanced Bestiary myself.

How is that going along? Any updates on release schedule?

I'm not really sure. We turned the manuscript over a month ago and I haven't really asked any questions since then.

Keep an eye on eBay too. I bought a copy of this, new condition, late January~early February for $15.00 (buy it now price). There were a few at that time, that were close to this price, with this being the cheapest. It was a very good investment IMO. There are several templates that I can easily see introducing into the games I'm currently running.

Advanced Bestiary is a damn good buy.

If you've ever wanted your PCs to run into a village full of ooze gnomes or to come face to face with mites that are on fire at all times or a pirate ship that can transform into a clockwork dragon, this is a must-have book.
